Job Description: School Caretaker Line Manager: School Business Manager Summary of Responsibilities and Duties: The following list of responsibilities and duties are not exhaustive.

Security • Opening and closing, unlocking and locking of school gates and buildings. • Open and close the school for evening use at times arranged by the Head of School • Monitoring and administering CCTV system. • Unsetting and setting of school alarm system. • Responding to, and resetting of, the school alarm, liaising with the police and alarm company. • Checking and securing the school premises subsequent to out of hours intruder alarm activation. • Register as main Key Holder and be the first point of contact in an emergency callout situation. • Overall security of the school premises including the locking of all windows and doors and the drawing of window blinds. • You may be called out at unsociable hours or at weekends to deal with security problems,make emergency repairs or allow access to any contractor who may be working on the site, in school holidays or weekends. • Security Mark new equipment.

Maintenance • Daily check of roofs for pooling,loose tiles, plant growth etc. • Clean roller shutters, soffits, bargeboards and external lights. • Keep all hard surfaces free of moss and weeds. • Disinfect drains and dustbins regularly . • Make safe any hazards and ensure that the area is cordoned off • Keep paths, entrances free of ice and snow to ensure the safety of children, parents, staff and visitors.

Management • Report on, arrange and oversee any alterations, redecoration, building and maintenance works and specialised repair work. • Be responsible for ordering cleaning equipment. • Noting, monitoring and reporting any defects in the school buildings to the Head of School • Complete a termly check list for the Head Teacher re: Health and Safety issues and buildings maintenance. • Monitor the work of contractors working on site. • Supervision of cleaning staff and monitoring of cleaning standards Cudham C. Heating, Lighting and Water • To operate and monitor heating, lighting and welfare systems necessary to comply with health, safety, welfare and environmental policies. • The switching off of all lights and appropriate electric plug sockets. • Ensure that all lights and heating are working effectively . • Read Gas,Electric and Water meters as required + record online. • Monitoring and setting of heating controls and boilers. • Be aware of the location of all stopcocks,gas and electricity meters and read meters as required. • Carry out routine procedures on ancillary equipment, checking circulating pumps,fuses,time clocks and settings of the automatic controls. • Make sure precautions have been taken to prevent frost damage. • Make sure that the adjacent areas to boilers are free from litter and combustible materials. • To carry out pool duties during the summer term ie cleaning and water testing • To carry out legionella monitoring duties

Cleaning • Oversee of school Hall floor clean on an annual basis. • Unlocking and re-locking bins on a daily basis. • Ensuring that external rubbish is stored appropriately. • Cleaning and tidying of the internal school building in designated areas • Supervision of clea ning of external windows carried out by contractor. • Sweep yards, pick up litter and be responsible for the remova l of all debris from paths, play areas, grassed areas, flowerbeds and all entrances. • To empty internal communal rubbish bins daily and wo rk with pupils on recycling initiatives. • Ensuring that the cleaning of toilets and toilet areas is done, and the replenishment of toiletries is carried out.

Porterage • Assist in the moving and replacing of furniture and equipment as required. • Receive, record a nd distribute deliveries following school policies and procedures. • Replacement of toilet requisites.

Administrative • Ensure that all administrative duties, checks and documentation including returns and reports are completed to the required level of accuracy and deadlines. • Reporting any incidents/accide nts. • Keep equipment register up to date.

General • Returning to school between shifts if required. • Upkeep and general care of the school.

• General maintenance and minor repair work including: doors,windows, toilet seats, and flushes, furniture, tap washers and some painting of doors and wa lls.(This list is not exhaustive, but an example) • Appropr iate painting and redecoration, if required in holiday periods. • Assisting teaching staff with simple tasks as requested. • Check ing damage/security every morning on arriva l at the premises. • Lettings as required - opening,closing and generalduties. • Preparation of Hall for functions as required. • Receive and check goods and supplies and take them to the appropriate place for storage.

• Ensure that all refuse is disposed of promptly and stored away from the main building. • Routinely clean lamp shades and light diffusers (strip lights) as appropriate. • Ensure that clear passage is maintained on fire escape routes • Test fire a la rms week ly. Maintain test register. • Carry out fire drill termly in liaison with the Head of School. • Carry out periodic cleaning of a ll internal surfaces to a height of eleve n feet from floor level. • Report any defects of building,furniture,fittings and equipment to the Head of School

Participate in school emergencies as required, for example, assisting with evacuation procedures. • Attend relevant meetings and training sessions. • Retain confidentiality regarding all aspects of school life. • Keep up to date with legislation and regulations including Health and Safety, and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) developments, and communicate relevant information to staff. • Uphold the school's policy in respect of child protection and safeguarding matters. • Be subject to all relevant statutory and institutional requirements. • Any other duties commensurate with the grade and post.
