We’re looking forward to an awesome 2010 Ranch Sorting season. I can’t believe how fast the years fly by any more! Is it because I have kids?? We have 3 RSNC shows under our belt this season and one more in a couple of days. The economy has hit us a bit and the entries have been down a little from last year. However, that is OK as we were busting at the seams last year; jumping thru hoops to accommodated so many teams in a short time. We are in the middle of the,” Saddle Series Linda Cirincione Race for Points.” We have TWO Vinton Saddles to be awarded to the year end #2 and #3 high point riders. Everyone is excited and is working hard to tally up their points. Jon Clint Davis Royal has had his heart set on the #2 saddle. So much so that he has ridden out of the Rookie class and is now competing for the #3 Saddle. Turning “50” at our next show may be the boost he needs to put him back at the top! Blakely Williams and Ed Parks are nose to nose at the top of the #3 division. Dylan Gregg is now leading for the #2 Saddle. The beginner class has continued to be a Bob Cornett great class for all the new and beginning riders. Kelsey Stastny has been the only one to really dominate in this class. She has been barrowing a big, old black gelding from Mike Grier. This is a tough old horse for anyone to ride. Kelsey has managed to handle him well Ryan Canady Photos by Jim Davis Photography

Jackie Bass and Danny McFarland Shelby Thomas enough to win the class twice. She loves the sorting so much she is looking for a cow horse of her own. Jennifer Fritz stole the show at our Oct. show and brought home the buckle. Ed Parks was her gate man. Everyone has caught on to the # of points you can win helping out in the beginner class!! Our weather looks wonderful for our 1st show of the New Year. We’re looking forward to seeing you all soon! Dylan Gregg Danna McFarland January-February 2010 The Ranch Sorter ~ 5 Hill & Billy Hill: Boy howdy! That’s what I love about RSNC, they just keep on comin up with new stuff for all of us. Here is the story of how ranch sorting started for the Thar Family. We first became involved in team penning at our county fair. It was an annual event here in Gillette and we really enjoyed it. After participating in this for a few years we decided we wanted more. We learned about a club in Rapid City, SD that put on pennings once a month. In Nov. 2005 we made the trip to Rapid City to find that they were not penning, but they were sorting. After this we were hooked. In Sept. 2006 we put on our first sorting with about 40 runs and put on 6 more in Gillette before we became RSNC Getting ready to mutton bust producers. We have grown since then and are now hosting eight events a year and have over 100 runs each sorting. The Thar family is made up of Zane & Stacey Thar, along with their three children, Shaylee, Coy, and Cade. They are Shaylee Sorting partnered with Gary and Susan Thar, with Gary heading up the Feed Store, Zane raising registered Angus cattle, and Stacey producing Ranch Sortings with the help of Sarah Reynolds. All of these businesses are ran and operated by family and close friends.
