  • Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus (1873-1897)
SAINT THÉRÈSE OF THE CHILD JESUS (1873-1897) hérèse Martin was born in Alençon, France, on January 2, 1873, Tto Louis Martin and Zélie Guérin, who were canonized together in 2015. After the death of her mother on August 28, 1877, Thérèse moved with her family to the city of Lisieux. Some extraordinary graces accompanied Thérèse’s human and spiritual maturation and allowed her to grow in her awareness of the infinite Mercy of God that is offered to every person. On the day of Pentecost in 1883, she had the unique grace of being healed from a serious illness; through the intercession of Our Lady of Victories. In 1884, she received her First Communion and at that time experienced the grace of intimate union with Christ. Thérèse had a great desire to follow her sisters, Pauline and Marie, into the Carmel of Lisieux to live a contemplative life. While on a pilgrimage to Italy, during an audience that Pope Leo XIII granted to the faithful of the Diocese of Lisieux, she boldly implored the Holy Father to obtain permission to enter Carmel at the age of fifteen. Having obtained his permission, Thérèse entered the monastery in 1888 and professed her vows on September 8, 1890. Her journey of holiness was strengthened by trusting God during mo- ments of great trial, to which she gave witness in her writings, letters, and prayers. Her teaching is also evident in poems and small theatrical per- formances written for recreation with the sisters. As a collaborator in the formation of novices, she undertook transmitting her spiritual experiences condensed into The Little Way of Spiritual Childhood.

  • The Sacred Heart of Jesus, Cathedral of Saint Louis, Missouri, United States
The Yearly Review of Saint Philip Neri International Seminary Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest A. D. 2019 Dear Friends, “Behold this Heart, Which has loved men so much, that It has spared nothing, even to exhausting and consuming Itself, in order to show them Its love.” It was with these words, spoken to Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque at the convent of Paray-le-Monial in June 1675, that Our Lord himself described his heart. Is this just a mawkish form of devotion overemphasizing God’s love? That is at least how many Jansenists chose to understand it, but nothing could be further from the truth. Nos ergo diligamus Deum, quoniam ipse prior dilexit nos (I Jn. IV, 19). Let us therefore love God because God first hath loved us. To return love for love: this is the key to understanding devotion to the Sacred Heart. This beautiful devotion, as Father Jean Croiset put it, “is essentially an exercise of love: love is its object, and its principal motive; and it is love which must be its principal end” (La dévotion au Sacré‑Cœur de N. S. Jésus‑Christ, Jean Croiset, SJ, Notre-Dame des Prés, Montreuil-sur-Mer, 1895, p. 3-4). We offer our warmest thanks to his Eminence Cardinal Burke who very kindly agreed to contribute to this issue. These pages are intended simply to help the reader come to a better knowledge of this devotion, so necessary for our times. For all those souls whose charity has grown cold, there is an urgent need to manifest the burning furnace of charity, fornax ardens caritatis, that is the Sacred Heart.

The hidden life continues even after death, in the cemeteries of our Charter- houses. However, some have been recognized as Saints or Blesseds by the Church. Usually this took place by a so-called ‘equipollent’ or ‘equivalent canonization’: “An authorization of public veneration pronounced by the Pope in consequence of the existence of certain special conditions” (D.

[Translated from Original Spanish] Thy Kingdom Come! Presentation of the Communiqués of the General Chapter 1. From January 8th through February 25th, 2014, the Extraordinary General Chapter of the Legion of Christ took place in Rome. His Eminence, Cardinal Velasio De Paolis, CS, and his two counselors, Fr. Gianfranco Ghirlanda, SJ, and Fr. Agostino Montan, CSI, presided. Sixty-one chapter fathers participated, 19 ex officio and 42 elected by the nine territories of the congregation and the centers of Rome. 2. This Extraordinary General Chapter marks the end of the journey of in-depth revision that the congregation has travelled since the apostolic visitation, which took place during 2009-2010, and the naming of a Pontifical Delegate in the summer of 2010. Our principal tasks in the Chapter, as Pope Benedict XVI1 indicated and as Pope Francis confirmed2, were to revise the Constitutions and to elect a new central government for the congregation. 3. In the first days, in light of the reports that the Pontifical Delegate and the pro-General Director submitted, we focused on analyzing the life of the Congregation since the ordinary General Chapter that took place in 2005. One of the outcomes of the intense exchange of ideas that took place in those days was the communiqué that the Chapter approved on January 20th, 2014, about the journey of renewal of the Congregation. This same day, the elections of the new central government took place.

  • Religious Art of Saint Joseph Church
Religious Art of Saint Joseph Church The Holy Trinity Of the Old Testament By Andrei Rublev (1260-1430) The icon of the Trinity was painted around 1410 by Andrei Rublev It depicts the three angels who visited Abraham at the Oak of Mamre - . but is often interpreted as an icon of the Trinity. It is sometimes called the icon of the Old Testament Trinity. The image is full of symbolism - designed to take the viewer into the Mystery of the Trinity. Behind the figure is a tree. This could be the oak tree at Mamre under which the three angelic visitors rested. The hospitality of Abraham and Sarah was rewarded in the gift of a son. What does this tell us of the importance of hospitality? The tree may also represent the Cross - the tree on which our Saviour died. The tree of death which becomes the tree of eternal life - lost to humanity by the disobedience of Adam and Eve - restored to us by the obedience of Jesus. Reflect on the paradox of the Cross - the place where death and life confront each other - where death gives way to resurrection - and eternal life. It may also be the tree of life in Revelation bearing twelve kinds of fruit one for each month of the year and the leaves of this tree are for the healing of the nations... What is the promise here - waiting to be fulfilled? The Christ figure in turn inclines towards the figure on the left - . and we are drawn to gaze there too. Some general thoughts to get you started..

• Biography of Saint Bruno
Biography of Saint Bruno - Short Biography of St Bruno « O Bonitas! » Bruno was born in Cologne around 1030. He was still a youth when he was sent to Rheims, in France, to study at one of the most reputed universities in Europe. After completion of his studies, he started teaching at that university. In 1056, Archbishop Gervais chose him to be the Rector of the "schools" of Rheims; he held the office of Rector of studies for 20 years. Towards the end of 1076, Bruno chose exile because of the conflict between Manasses of Gournay, the archbishop of Rheims, and several important institutes of the city, including the Benedictine monastery of Saint Remi. On December 27, 1080, Gregory VII had to resolve to ask the clergy of Rheims to drive the corrupt archbishop away and to elect a new one. Bruno was chosen for this post of high responsibility and power, one of the highest ecclesiastical positions in the kingdom of France. But he had other plans. He had decided to follow Christ to the desert. It is only around the Feast of St John-Baptist, approximately on June 24, that he and six companions reached the far end of the desert of Chartreuse, under the guidance of Hugh, the young bishop of Grenoble. For six years, Bruno was able to enjoy the life he had chosen with his brothers. In the first months of 1090, Urban II, a former student of his, summoned him to Rome to help him in the service of the Church, but just a few months later, Bruno obtained the Pope's permission to return to eremitic life, provided that he would establish his hermitage in southern Italy, then under the rule of the Norman princes.
