BRYAN LIPPINCOTT OF CONCORDIA-ST. PAUL NAMED AS CAPITAL ONE DIVISION II ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA® OF THE YEAR

TOWSON, Md. – Senior third baseman Bryan Lippincott of Concordia University-St. Paul (Minn.) has been named as the 2012 Capital One Division II Academic All-America® of the Year, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). A finance major who graduated with a perfect 4.0 G.P.A., Lippincott was a two-time winner of the Capital One Academic All-America® of the Year award for Division II baseball. He was chosen as the Capital One Academic All-America® of the Year in the College Division in 2011and in Division II this year. The Capital One Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2011-12 Division II Academic All-America® teams program. He is the first student-athlete ever selected to represent the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) for this award. The NCAA Division II batting champion with a .494 average, Lippincott was a consensus first team All-America pick, earning accolades from Daktronics, the ABCA and the NCBWA. His batting average was the highest mark recorded by any baseball player in NCAA Division I, Division II and Division III. Lippincott was also second in the nation in on-base percentage (.594) and third in slugging percentage (.864). "Winning this award is a tremendous honor,” said Lippincott. “I feel that it reflects not only the hard work I put in on and off the field, but the hard work of my professors and coaches. I was blessed to have a great collegiate experience, and it is wonderful to go out being named as the Capital One Academic All America® of the Year in Division II." A starter in all 46 games for the Golden Bears, the Des Moines, Iowa native scored 49 runs while hitting 19 doubles with 10 home runs and 52 runs batted in. He led Concordia-St. Paul to a 21-25 record. A repeat selection on the Capital One Division II Academic All-America® first team, he finished his career with a .428 batting average, setting a school record. He also finished his career as Concordia's all-time leader in runs scored (170), doubles (63) and triples (12). He is second on the Golden Bears’ all-time list with 254 base hits, 165 runs batted in and 425 total bases. A four-year starter who played in 161 games, he is ranked among Concordia-St. Paul’s all-time leaders with 41 stolen bases, a .715 slugging percentage and 28 home runs. Lippincott was selected by the Washington Nationals in the 19th round of the Amateur Baseball Draft in June. He is currently playing for the Nationals’ minor league team in the Gulf Coast League.
