Too Marvelous Trio

“Too Marvelous For Words: A Celebration of the Nat ‘King’ Cole Trio” is a fun and swingin’ journey into the early days of . Before “The Christmas Song” and “Mona Lisa” that we know from the crooner standing in front of the orchestra, Nat was recording and playing (from the piano bench!) some of the tastiest and most influential music of the day, leaving an impact not only on an array of singers, but also on such pianists as Oscar Peterson and Ahmad Jamal.

MAURICE SMITH

On any given day you can find him serenading audiences at local ven- ues. An old soul, Maurice is clearly influenced by the greats. He counts among his influences, Marvin Gaye, Bill Withers, and Al Green and is often compared to the celebrated tenors of our time such as Stokeley, Raphael Saadiq, El DeBarge, and the greatest of them all Stevie Won- der.

A seasoned performer, she has shared the stage with the likes of Richie Havens and Peter Eldridge (of the NY Voices), She has toured internationally and across the US with both her band and as a

GRETJE ANGELL

Mainly influenced by Anita O’Day, Chet Baker, , and Carmen McRae, Gretje’s sense of rhythm and phrasing - with a pure, even tone to match - is inspired by these jazz greats. Her tongue dances lightly over both Brazilian rhythms and swing, giving into the music with improvisational performances, making her a tour de force on the scene and rivaling contemporary vocalists such as the much admired Cyrille Aimee and Diana Krall.

Alana Chirino

She is the daughter of Cuban legendary singer Willy Chirino and pop diva Lisette Alvarez. To say music flows through her DNA is an under- statement. Her three sisters are all musicians that play separately as well as together and all have had their own successes. It wasn’t that The De- fiant was born not wanting to continue the success that might come with using a family name, it was that the path Alana was paving is clearly her own. Her talent as a singer, songwriter is equivalent to her talent as a bassist. She is a force to be reckoned with as a multifaceted artist wheth- er recording in the studio or performing around LA.
