The International Olympic Academy functions as an International Academic Centre for Olympic Studies, Calendar 1 Education, and Research. It is an international forum for free expression and exchange of ideas among the Olympic Family, intellectuals, scientists, athletes, sport administrators, educators, artists Contacts 2 and the youth of the world. The Academy brings together people from all over the world, in a spirit of Graduates 2 friendship and cooperation. Participants are urged to use the experiences and knowledge gained in the IOA to promote Olympic Ideals in their respective countries. New Faculty 2 Dr. Hums says “it was a tremendous honor to be chosen to represent the United States at the Interna- New Course 2 tional Olympic Academy.” During her time in Greece, she studied with scholars from around the world, all of whom share a common research interest in some aspect of the Olympic Movement. She SPAD Club 3 was also selected to present a paper, one of only 14 presentations from the 80+ participants. The pa- per focused on “Ethical Issues Facing the Paralympic Movement.” She attended conference lectures Student Interns 3 and discussion groups on various aspects of Olympism and the Olympic Movement, and also had a tour of the archeological site of the Ancient Olympic Games. But most of all, Dr. Hums reiterates that Faculty Research 4-5 “the best part was meeting and interacting with a variety of different people.
