It all started in January 2014 after the devastating Typhoon Yolanda. My husband and I decided to use my Bowen hands to donate to the people traumatised by this catastrophic event. We were joined by fellow Bowen practitioner and friend Jane Murphy and so the journey began.

On returning to Australia I put the word out for more Bowen therapists to join me in November 2014. Many answered the call for future missions but this project was responded to by some brilliant therapists, Jim Kearney a retired firefighter from Texas, Karen Andrighetto a nurse from Port Maquarie Australia, Tania Lewis a fantastic Bowen therapist from Western Australia. They closed their Bowen clinics to join me in my mission to treat victims and workers of Yolanda.

And what a Mission this has been!!!!!!!! We have treated many many people.

In Manila the homeless and street kids in a mission of 300 people. A centre for single new mums and their babies.

We flew to Tacloban Leyte and worked in the Provincial hospital for days treating doctors, nurses hospital staff, victims of the typhoon, children, the disabled, the sick. Young and old alike gathered to be Bowened.

We went out to communities working in stifling humidity treating so many needy people. We went to Tacloban Fire station and treated the amazing men and women who worked (and still work) tirelessly saving and helping the victims of the destructive typhoon of all typhoons.

Page We went to communities in outlying areas also affected by this monster of a typhoon and previous typhoons. So many people to thank. Jennie Verano, for your tireless efforts in putting this project together. Could not have done it without you. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Salubong Movement for allowing us to use your name and for encouraging and loving us in your beautiful way. Dory Casas Buñales and your beautiful caring daughter for taking us to your wonderful community and allowing us to Bowen your grateful people. My darling Raquel Trigueros and husband Norben for your tireless efforts in gathering your community together at your home and opening your doors as our clinic for the day. Thank you for ferrying medicines and people to us when we were struggling to fit everything into our days. You are both an inspiration to us and your community and Raquel, your Bowen skills are beyond words. Thank you to Kalpana Gandhi for being a wonderful gracious host and for joining us in our mission. The work you did and the work you do is absolutely amazing and we are humbled by the grace with which you do it. Thank you to all the wonderful men and women who helped fulfil our duties on this project, you know who you are. Thank you to Tess Mapua for opening your beautiful condo to us. To come home to such comfort and luxury at the end of a Bowen day was just wonderful. On a personal note I want to thank my darling husband Hayden Price for lending me and my Bowen hands to the people of the Philippines. For four weeks!!!!! And for your never ending love for me. Thank you to the generous people of Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie for your fund raising efforts. The medicines, X-rays, CT scans, were possible because of your generosity. My undying thanks and gratitude to the amazing Salubong Bowen Philippines Team. Your dedication, caring, loving, BOWEN WORK, is beyond words. Jim, Karen, Tania, thank you sooooo much for sharing your skills knowledge and love with me on this epic Mission.....Friends for Life. Lastly thank you to the people of the Philippines for allowing us to share our Bowen skills with you. We are humbled and awe inspired by your welcoming, open generosity and your bravery through such tough times. On behalf of my colleagues SALUBONG BOWEN PHILIPPINES. We will never forget you. As Arnie Schwarzenegger says, “WE WILL BE BACK”.

Page Diploma Bowen Instructors Meeting Sydney We have just completed two amazing days of training in Sydney. Thanks go to all of the wonderful Diploma instructors for their involvement and commitment to providing high quality training in Australia.

Exciting changes continue for Nationally Recognised Training in Australia, with BCNT gaining approval for the newly accredited courses for Certificate IV and Diploma, valid until 2020. Information relevant to these courses was discussed at the meeting to ensure a smooth transition from the expired courses to the new. All new students commencing training from 1 February 2015 will be enrolled into the new courses, 10533NAT Certificate IV in Bowen Therapy and 10534NAT Diploma of Specialised Bowen Therapy. More course details can be found on www.bowen.bcnt.net.au and www.bowentraining.com.au.

All students who began training prior to 1 February 2015 have until December 2015 to complete their course requirements and have their certificate issued. Students taking longer will need to be reassessed against the new course requirements and complete any new associated tasks.

Another exciting change discussed is the transition from BCNT being the Registered Training Organisation (RTO) to “Bowen Training Australia”, the collective group of Bowtech Bowen Instructors in Australia. You will receive more information on this once the transition has been approved by ASQA, the governing body, so stay tuned for updates to follow.

We also all enjoyed the opportunity of working with Ossie and Elaine Rentsch to refine our teaching skills related to Specialised Procedures taught in the Diploma. It is always a pleasure to spend such valuable time with the founders of Bowtech.

The number of Diploma Instructors is growing every year, which is great news for students who have the opportunity of choosing from a bigger variety of classes and venues. There will surely be one close to you at a time that suits so please make sure you do a “course search” on the website www.bowentraining.com.au to register your interest, or view Diploma dates on the home page www.bowen.bcnt.net.au. It is always a good time to improve your skills and enhance your understanding of this amazing technique.

A big thank you goes out to all students and graduates for the support you have given to BCNT over the past 10 years of operation. Karen Hedrick & Michael Quinlivan BCNT

Good Day Ossie and Elaine, I had the pleasure of meeting and learning from you in Toronto. I am the lady on the table for gallbladder 2 and at the end of classes Ossie and I spoke about a client. Well, I didn’t believe it then but here it is Ossie. I am amazed. Your SBP2 Master Class was absolutely mind blowing and OMG I figured it out. I am sure there is more that I will pick up along the way but holy cow. Thank you so much for bringing this to the world. It was not necessary however as I grow along this pathway and am able to share what you have taught me and what I learn along the way, it is absolutely incredible and this fulfills my journey everyday as well. Page 14 HEALTH BENEFITS OF BEETROOT A new UK study has concluded that drinking beetroot juice can lower blood pressure quickly and effectively. The vegetable has been part of a number of studies in recent years looking into its benefits to health. Nutrients present in beetroot such as “betaine’ are believed to reduce blood concentration of homocycteine which is linked to heart disease and stroke.

Beetroot could be a natural way to help prevent cardiovascular problems. Scientists at the Queen Mary University in London discovered that drinking beetroot juice lowered blood pressure to healthy levels within 24 hours and was just as effective as nitrate tablets in treating high blood pressure.

An organic form of nitrate present in beetroot juice has beneficial effects on cardiovascular health because it increases level of nitric oxide gas. The gas, which helps to transport messages in the body, helps muscles to relax, induces vasodilation (widening of blood vessels) and increases blood flow.

Study author Amrita Ahluwalia, Professor of Vascular Biology at Queen Mary’s William Harvey Research Institute said: “We gave inorganic nitrate capsules of beetroot juice to healthy volunteers and compared their blood pressure responses and the biochemical changes occurring in the circulation. We showed that beetroot and nitrate capsules are equally effective in lowering blood pressure, indicating that it is the nitrate content of beetroot juice that underlies its potential to reduce blood pressure”

He continued “We also found that only a small amount of juice is needed – just 250ml – to have this effect, and that the higher the blood pressure at the start of the study the greater the decrease cause by the nitrate”. Researchers added that this latest research will be welcome news to people suffering the hypertension (high blood pressure) who want to seek ‘natural approaches’ to reduce the risk of strokes and heart attacks. . A stopper is still a stopper and will always be known as a stopper or temporary energy block to help control harmonic vibrational energy moving via the fascia.

Some instructors have chosen to call them starters or openers, the first of the basic relaxation moves. The lower back stoppers can have many functions on a Canadian Instructor Denise Onslow with her Module 3 and 4 class person. Just read Janet Riley’s article on in Winnipeg Manitoba, Canada page 12.

1. As stoppers they allow moves 3 & 4 and 5 & 6 to be more effective.

2. They allow the client to relax, but remember the first time you ever do them on a client they may feel invaded or slightly shocked, if so it is wise to not even proceed with moves 3 and 4 until an appropriate time delay. As you know Margaret and Anne use moves 1 and 2 alone and await the body’s response. This is what Mr. Bowen did. He would say that is all this person can take today.

. Again it may bring back memory to the client.

. Yes, 1 and 2 can also energise the body. Clients may feel changes from head to feet. How then can they be stoppers, as I said earlier, the stopping part applies to the following moves 3,4, 5 and 6.

. Next point - these moves 1 and 2 may also assist lymphatic drainage.

. It should not be necessary to renew stoppers, when returning to a resting client an experienced practitioner will gently re apply moves 1 and 2 for the purpose of assessing tension, informing the client of relaxation achieved. ASSOCIATION OF BULGARIA The Bowen technique is an amazing complementary modality that have captured the hearts of thousands and changed the life of hundreds. Being introduced in Bulgaria in 2009 by Instructor Andrew Zoppos, it is now gathering speed rapidly and is well appreciated by both the medical and non-medical practitioners in our country. The number of practitioners and people intered in education is growing fast for the past couple of years.

We are happy to announce the establishment of an Assocation in Bulgaria. The founders and the adminstrative council of the Assocation are:

THE CONTRAINDICATION TO TMJ, VAGUS NERVE AND OTHER NECK MOVES This is a reminder there is a contraindication for clients with Parkinson’s who may have an implant that has a wire that travels from the brain down the neck to a battery pack located in the chest. Practitioners should be able to see or feel the wire.

The device is made by Medtronics, Inc. It is strongly suggested no moves are done over this area in case it dislodges the electrodes or damages the wire. If there is damage, it would mean surgery to replace the wires.

This contraindication does not apply to pacemaker implants. The Bowen India practitioners have been very actively involved in promoting Bowen. In Mumbai we participated at the Life Positive Expo at the World trade centre, organised by Shivaani Mahajan, Khursheed Irani, Shalini Menon, Geeta Bhansali and Dipal Parikh. They also offered treatments and package incentives to the general public there. Practitioners from Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Navsari contributed by funding it and partly funded by the Bowen association of India. We did a short presentation as well. (Please do visit our Bowen India face book to see photos and activities).

Our practitioners are now doing Bowen presentations in their local areas at Rotary, various associations, schools and other centres when the opportunities arise as Khursheed has created a PowerPoint presentation and trained practitioners in presenting.

Bowen Pune participated in an expo on 30th and have also started working with the disabled on a voluntary basis, like we do in Mumbai. The West Mumbai practitioners participated actively treating the Rotary marathon runners including the winner. Tona Dugal together with her son Angad participated wearing our Bowtech T shirts in the State Bank marathon in the disabled section and won a medal.

My Delhi trip was a huge success. The World Zoroastrian Chamber of Commerce, Delhi Chapter, sponsored our Bowtech presentation and the whole event.

We honoured our visiting Instructor Vimla Rao at the WZCC Delhi presentation the traditional way, with a shawl, for initiating the Bowen chapter there where she continues teaching.

The Delhi Bowtech team were very enthusiastic and we had a lot of fun during the teaching sessions. I also visited Alfred Alkrie and Lynette Nath’s Bowen therapy centre, very nice, professionally set up and Rama Raman works with them on weekends.

We are in the process of starting a Bowen centre at the Delhi Parsi premises which is a big complex. When it materialises we are going to call it the Delhi Parsi Anjuman Bowen (Bowtech) centre. Kavita Soni, Rama Raman and Ludo Vanhees will be taking turns in running this centre. We are also upgrading our website of Bowen India!
