Fall Meeting at Marietta October 26-27 HIOHIOFOCUSFOCUS The Ohio Section Newsletter Volume 6 Fall, 2001 Number 9 Fall Meeting at Marietta October 26-27 The Fall meeting will be held on the campus of Marietta College, in Marietta, which is on the Ohio River in scenic southeastern Ohio. Registration and sessions will be held in the McDonough Center (left). Complete details about the program, directions, motels, and registration appear on pages 8-11. The invited talks feature Ann Watkins, President of the MAA, Edward Burger, MAA Pólya Lecturer, and Jerry Moreno, Ohio Section teaching award winner, of John Carroll University. Ses- sions begin at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, and continue until 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. An MAA Grant Writing Workshop will follow the meeting in the afternoon on Saturday (see below). Since our last newsletter was released in January 2010, there have been significant changes at Baylor. Judge Kenneth Winston Starr has been inaugurated as Baylor University’s 14th President and Dr. Elizabeth Davis was named Executive Vice President and Provost. All of us at Baylor are thrilled with these two appointments and, through the stability that these appointments bring, we are confident that Baylor will continue its push onwards and upwards to becoming one of the nation’s elite universities. On the departmental level, we have seen several important changes in the past few months. We’ve added Dr. Matthew Beauregard (University of Arizona), Gail Brooks (Baylor University, McLennan Community College), and Dr. Jonatan Lenells (University of Lund, Sweden) to our staff this fall and we are very pleased to welcome each of them into our mathematical family. With more than 130 colleges and universities statewide, coming up with its top 25 schools takes considerable data and time. According to the 2015 list, six of the 25 universities on the list are from southwestern Ohio. The University of Dayton, ranked #6, and Cedarville University, ranked #7, are the highest ranked universities from the Miami Valley.
