The meeting took place in MPR at 1169 North Colombo, Sierra Vista, AZ 85635 as posted. The meeting was called to order at 9:15 a.m. (0915) Board Members in attendance were: Elizabeth Fogarty (Secretary), James Fogarty (President), Frank Yanez, (Treasurer), Board Members: Cyndy Ortega, and Ada Parra. Staff was represented by Berean Principal Lisa Metz and SPED/Federal Grants Director Bev Enriquez, Bryan Shack Sr. was out of town. Staff members Libby Fournier and Heather Hernandez. Public: Mr. Willie Howell, Mr. Alex Criado and Mr. Ed Mealy Jr. [Numbers on the left margin reflect Agenda Item numbers.] 1) Prayer was offered by Mr. Alex Criado. Mr. Jim Fogarty led in the Pledge of Allegiance. 3) Reports: a. Mr. Yanez offered explanations of the Audit and the New Bond and answered questions. b. Mrs. Lisa Metz reported our ADM is at 455. There are One Hundred Twenty one (121) Seventy scholars On-Line; Seventy (70) Jr High and High school and Fifty one (51) Elementary. A survey of the staff found that five (5) of our staff are not planning on returning next year. She expressed appreciation for the Learning Keys presentation to Administration last week. Since our return in we have ceased rotating Scholar and/or Mentors. We are still in the process of moving from Schoolmaster to Powerschool. Mrs. Metz offered information from Mr. Shack concerning the Discipline Matrix, Purchase of a bus or van, possibility of building more classrooms, full multipurpose gym and facility. He further proposed a letter/petition to the City for lights at our ingress/egress. In light of Mr. Shack’s consistent use of the Discipline Matrix, she brought a recent sports related discipline incident to the Boards attention. The Board offered suggestions to ensure a proper paper trail for discipline issues. The Board affirmed that any paid position can be suspended and said to make sure there are job descriptions for coaches. Mr. Criado had filed out a “Call to Public” form and asked to address this issue. He expressed his opinion that the Discipline Matrix was too harsh and asked that the discipline imposed be reduced. Mr. Yanez said that Berean Academy will follow the Love and Logic pattern and stand by the Staff and Discipline matrix. Parents can appeal to the Principal and Administration team (Director, Principal, Dean of Students and SPED director). If they are not satisfied they can appeal to the Board. c. Mr. Shack was out of town. As noted above Mrs. Metz made presentation for him. d. Mrs. Beverly Enriquez gave out Galileo and ELA scores. Expressed she was pleased with the improvement. The PLC meetings are going well with the emphasis on Data as well as working on the Improvement Plan. She expressed her thanks for all the work done by Heather Hernandez and Vicki Haro preparing for and contributions during the recent SPED Audit. Clubs will be resuming next week within the guidelines we have established in our Covid protocol. She also presented a list of the Grants that have been awarded this year. e. Issues addressed below… 4) Mr. Yanez expressed the importance of getting together to address the future in light of the great changes we are experiencing is vital. The Board and Admin are in complete agreement. Saturday, 6th, was agreed upon for a Planning Meeting. The Board will submit Mr. Ed Mealy Jr and Mr. Willie Howell to the Arizona State Board of Charter Schools as additions to the Cochise Community Development Corporation. b. Mr. Yanez motioned to extend a One Time Stipend to all staff in recognition of their hard work during this difficult year. Mrs. Ortega seconded the motion. Jim Fogarty, Elizabeth Fogarty, Frank Yanez, Cyndy Ortega and Ada Parra voted aye and the motion passed unanimously. Mr. Fogarty was directed to submit the bonuses to be processed. 16) Adjourn at 1340
