[email protected] Resumen: Se aportan al catálogo lepidopterológico de Asturias datos sobre cuatro especies de la familia Nolidae (Noctuoidea). Los taxones que se citan por primera vez en el área de estudio son Nola confusalis (Herrich-Schäffer, 1847), Pseudoips prasinana (Linnaeus, 1758) y Nycteola columbana (Turner, 1925), además de confirmar la presencia de Bena bicolorana (Fuessly, 1775).   • Are Bird Communities Structured by Arthropod Availability?
    Revista Catalana d’Ornitologia 21:17-28, 2005 Post-fire dynamics in Mediterranean shrublands: are bird communities structured by arthropod availability? Sergi Herrando, Lluís Brotons & Santiago Llacuna The relationship between arthropod availability and bird energy requirements was studied in Mediterranean shrublands. Specifically, we tested the hypothesis that food availability is a possible constraint in the recovery of bird communities in post-fire dynamics. We used the sweep-net sampling method to collect arthropods, and the point-census method to assess bird abundance. The censuses were carried out during the breeding and wintering seasons in a fire-free zone and in two burned zones (one burned four years before the fieldwork, the other 16 years before it). During the breeding season, we found a positive association between arthropod availability and bird requirements in all three zones. However, compared with the other two zones, the recently burned zone contained fewer birds than expected, based on arthropod availability. Thus, it seems that birds exerted significantly lower predation pressure on arthropod populations in this zone than in the other two zones, which resembled each other in this parameter. These results suggest that arthropod availability does not constrain breeding-bird numbers soon after fire; however, it could do so in later successional stages. During winter, when the studied bird species also feed on fleshy-fruits, there were no conclusive associations between arthropods and birds. The hitherto unknown female of S. armata László, Ronkay & Witt, 2010 is also illustrated here for the first time. All species recorded from Hong Kong are illustrated together with their genitalia on 54 colour and 46 black and white diagnostic figures. Moths and butterflies whose larvae do not feed on plants represent a decided minority slice of lepidopteran diversity, yet offer insights into the ecology and evolution of feeding habits. This paper summarizes the life histories of the known pred­ atory and parasitic lepidopteran taxa, focusing in detail on current research in the butterfly family Lycaenidae, a group disproportionately rich in aphytophagous feeders and myr­ mecophilous habits. More than 99 percent of the 160,000 species of Lepidoptera eat plants (Strong et al. 1984, Common 1990). Plant feeding is generally associated with high rates of evolutionary diversification-while only 9 of the 30 extant orders of insects (Kristensen 1991) feed on plants, these orders contain more than half of the total number of insect species (Ehrlich & Raven 1964, Southwood 1973, Mitter et al. 1988, cf. Labandiera & Sepkoski 1993). Phytophagous species are characterized by specialized diets, with fewer than 10 percent having host ranges of more than three plant families (Bernays 1988, 1989), and butterflies being particularly host plant-specific (e.g., Remington & Pease 1955, Remington 1963, Ehrlich & Raven 1964). This kind of life history specialization and its effects on population structure may have contributed to the diversification of phytophages by promoting population subdivision and isolation (Futuyma & Moreno 1988, Thompson 1994). LÁSZLÓ, Gábor RONKAY and Thomas J. WITT Abstract Present paper is the first comprehensive summary of the Nolinae (sensu stricto) fauna of Northern Thailand. It contains the records of 127 species occurring in this area, with the descriptions of 16 new genera and 46 new species, numerous new combinations, stati and synonyms. With 11 colour plates and 58 genitalia figures. Introduction The interpretation and the taxonomic rank of the compact and monophyletic group called as Nolinae has been changed several times but was mainly treated as a subfamily of the family Arctiidae. It has been upgraded to a family rank firstly byH OLLOWAY (2003) in the Moths of Borneo series, lumping them into a common phyletic unit with several clades placed formerly into the family Noctuidae (e.g. Chloephorinae, Sarrothripinae and Eariadinae). This opinion was accepted by FIBIGER & LAFONTAINE (2005) in their comprehensive work on the taxonomy and systemat- ics of the superfamily Noctuoidea. The target objects of this study are all those species and generic rank taxa which belong to the subfamily Nolinae (s. str.). The studies were based principally on the huge Nolinae collections of the WITT Museum Munich (MWM), the Hungarian Natural History Museum Budapest (HNHM) and The Natural History Museum London (formerly British Museum, Natural History; BMNH). Almost all specimens studied from Thailand originate from the northern mountainous areas of the country, the few exceptional examples are found in the material of the BMNH.

New information In the present paper, based on an examination of museum specimens, published records and new samples, a comprehensive and critical species list of Crambidae moths (Lepidoptera: Pyraloidea) is synthesised. In total, 8 subfamilies, 50 genera and 106 species have been recorded and these are listed along with their collection, literature references and biological data including chorotype, voltinism and the flight period in the study area.     MOTHS of EARLHAM CEMETERY Compiled by Vanna Bartlett (VB), Jeremy Bartlett (JB), Ian Senior (IS), James Emerson (JE), Gary White (GW), James Cordeaux (JC), Alysia Schuetzle (AS) and Stuart Paston (SP). NMS = recorded by Norfolk Moth Survey. Last updated 21st June 2020. The list includes species recorded in Earlham Cemetery plus records from gardens that back onto the Cemetery and other nearby areas give an indication of the species that will be present in the Cemetery. The list includes: (1) Species actually recorded in the Cemetery, shown in bold. These are mainly from day observations, but on 10th August 2019 we had our first moth trapping event in Earlham Cemetery. Thanks to Ken Saul of Norfolk Moth Survey and Susan Moore of Norwich City Council for arranging this. (2) Species recorded at 12 Helena Road, Norwich (grid reference: TG 215 091) by VB & JB between 1992 and 2013 which definitely or almost certainly came from the Cemetery, which is directly at the back of the garden. More recent records of species caught in a moth trap at 24 Helena Road by GW. (3) Species recorded at 12 Helena Road by VB & JB, which probably came from inside the garden, such as several moth species associated with the garden pond or plants not found in the Cemetery. These are shown in italics. (4) Species recorded in other places near to but not adjoining the Cemetery, such as the West Norwich Hospital on Bowthorpe Road. The location is listed with these species. Shown in red. Most species recorded at 12 Helena Road (2 and 3 above) were trapped using a mercury vapour lamp, a homemade version of a Robinson trap, although a Heath trap was also used occasionally.
