This study was designed to meet requirements of the California Environmental Quality Act. Per the findings of the National Marine Fisheries Service (2008), the Sonoma County Water Agency is seeking to improve Coho salmon and steelhead habitat in the Russian River and Dry Creek by modifying the minimum instream flow requirements specified by the State Water Resources Control Board's 1986 Decision 1610. The current study includes a ⅛ mile buffer around Lake Mendocino, Lake Sonoma, the Russian River from Coyote Valley Dam to the Pacific Ocean, and Dry Creek from Warm Springs Dam to the Russian River. The study included archival research at the Northwest Information Center, Sonoma State University (NWIC File No. 15-1481); archival research at the Museum of Paleontology, University of California, Berkeley; examination of the library and files of Tom Origer & Associates; and contact with the Native American community. PINO: Price is no object PinotFile Volume 6, Issue 54 The First Wine Newsletter Exclusively Devoted to Pinotphiles March 3, 2008 Inside this issue: Santa Maria Valley In a quest to try to satisfy my pinotlust, I traveled recently to the Santa Maria Valley Ambullneo 7 and discovered a region that is quietly, but quickly, becoming a major destination Cottonwood Canyon 10 for wine enthusiasts. Located in the northernmost reaches of Santa Barbara Bianchi Winery 14 County, it is an appellation that has been overshadowed by its neighbors to the Kenneth Volk Vnyds 15 south, the Santa Ynez Valley and Santa Rita Hills, whose popularity has been fueled by the post-Sideways Pinot craze. Part of Sideways was actually filmed on the Small Sips of Santa 16 Foxen Canyon Wine Trail in Santa Maria Valley but this has been largely unrecog- Maria Valley nized. To the north, the nearby Arroyo Grande Valley and Edna Valley in San Luis Obispo County have assumed more notoriety for cool-climate wine enthusiasts, in Pinot Briefs 18 part because of a more publicized and established wine growing history, and in Long & Winding 20 part due to the close proximity to the town of San Luis Obispo. Pinot Road, Part VI The Santa Maria Valley encompasses the cities of Santa Maria and Guadalupe and includes the unincorporated communities of Orcutt, Sisquoc and Tepusquet. The Valley is tucked between the Sierra Madre Mountains to the east and the Pacific Ocean coastline to the west. 25% of Santa Barbara County’s population resides here and Santa Maria recently eclipsed its more famous neighbor to the south, Santa Barbara, in population.

  • Winery of the Month
April 2020 WINERY OF THE MONTH ® RealReal Food. Food. Real Real People People..® OLIVER’S IS PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE SEBASTIANI VINEYARDS & WINERY AS THE WINERY OF THE MONTH FOR APRIL. Sebastiani’s first century in Sonoma winemaking began when Samuele Sebastiani emigrated from Italy in 1895 and started Sebastiani nine years later. A stonemason by trade, he quarry-mined the Sonoma hills for cobblestones that were used to build the streets of San Francisco. The winery was the only one in Sonoma County to continue operations through Prohibition, making a small amount of sacramental and medicinal wines. It has been joked, and perhaps with some grain of truth, that during this time there was a resurgence of people becoming very religious. Samuele believed in hard work and asked the same of everyone at the winery. At the same time, he was a strong supporter of the land and the people of Sonoma. When the combination of Prohibition and the Depression hit hard, Samuele initiated major projects at the winery to create employment for his neighbors. Shortly after Samuele’s death in 1944, his son, August, and August’s wife Sylvia purchased the winery from the estate and began the expansion of the facilities and the product line, adding new varietal wines and proprietary blends. August was recognized as one of America’s most skilled and innovative winemakers of the time. He respected the craftsmen of Sonoma and made use of their skills at the winery; the famous hand-carved Sebastiani barrels, which are still on display at the winery, were completed by Earle Brown in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

  • 4.14 Water Supply
Cotati Downtown Specific Plan WATER SUPPLY Draft EIR 4.14 Water Supply 4.14.1 Issues Implementation of the Downtown Specific Plan (DSP) will increase the demand for water as compared to the existing demand in the Downtown Specific Plan area. Improvements to water supply and conveyance infrastructure may be required to support buildout of the project and the surrounding area. According to the Downtown Specific Plan Water Supply Assessment (WSA), the City will have sufficient water supply for the project. The WSA considers water supply and demand requirements during normal, single dry, and multiple dry years. This section is largely derived from the WSA, which is incorporated by reference and included in this EIR as Appendix 4.14. 4.14.2 Setting Planning Area For the purpose of assessing direct impacts, the planning area is the DSP area. The cumulative analysis includes the Sonoma County Water Agency (SCWA) service area (see Figure 4.14-1). The City of Cotati serves the planning area with a 6- to 14-inch waterline distribution system. Water System Water supply to the planning area is provided by the City of Cotati through three city wells and the SCWA aqueduct. The planning area is also served by a 1.0 million gallon (mg) storage tank located on West Sierra Avenue outside the City limits. Cotati receives most of its water supply from the SCWA, using its city wells for supplemental supply. Water Sources Sonoma County Water Agency. The SCWA receives groundwater from wells and surface water from the Russian River, with rights to divert up to 75,000 acre-feet per year (AFY) to its customers.

These grapes grew well, but did not produce the extraordinary wine we 1920 associate with California today. This changed with the arrival of the exceptional 1949 grapevines from ancient vineyards in Europe. Many noteworthy men, such as Frenchman 1976 Jean-Louis Vignes, saw the need for delicious quality-producing grapes, thus bringing the first 2007 vitis vinifera to California. Retail Savings $11.99 $19.00 37% 2012 Sebastiani Zinfandelproduct-timed-pdf - Sonoma County - "Great Value Zin" from a Winemaker of the Year Why We're Drinking It Cult wineries come and go, following the fickle whims of fashion. Workhouse wineries stick around, producing enjoyable wine without fuss or pretention, and garnering a loyal following while they’re at it. This Zin is from one such workhouse winery. And those who know this Zin from previous vintages have already hit the purchase button. We suggest you follow suit. It doesn’t take a wine connoisseur to recognize the Sebastiani name. This is as historic as it gets in American wine. Sebastiani was one of the first to plant roots in Sonoma County and holds the title as the only estate producing wine right through prohibition. We won’t tell! Their 2001 Zinfandel is a peppery, spicy, full-bodied red with a stick-to-your-ribs quality that disarms even the snootiest of wine drinkers. Out Tasting Panel was pleasantly surprised by the complexity here. Sure, there’s the telltale jammy, berry fruit and black pepper spice that defines Sonoma Zin, but there’s also more exotic notes of forest floor, campfire, huckleberry and earth. It’s a steal and a serious crowd pleaser. Reasons We Love It: The core of this wine comes from three of the best AVAs for this quintessential American grape: Dry Creek (benchland, terra rosa), Alexander (gravelly alluvial), and Russian River Valleys. The Petite Sirah blended with it comes mainly from Stanislaus County, which excels in Petite Sirah production.
