59TH ANNUAL BENEFIT

SUPPORT THE NEXT GENERATION OF MUSICAL CITIZENS!

HE NEW YORK YOUTH SYMPHONY is a premier cultural organization nationally recognized for Tits innovative educational programs for talented young musicians between the ages of 12 and 22. Founded in 1963 to showcase the metropolitan area’s most gifted young orchestral musicians, its activities have grown significantly to include programs in chamber music, conducting, jazz, composition, musical theater songwriting, and commissioning, serving more than 260 students annually.

Through exceptional ensemble training, performance opportunities, and career guidance, the NYYS offers invaluable opportunities for teen- and college-age musicians to train for professional careers and develop critical life skills while making pivotal decisions about their future. Over 7,000 alumni have participated in NYYS programs, including many of the world’s most notable musicians, conductors, and music directors. Young alumni can be found at leading conservatories and music schools, and launching careers with major , Broadway tours, and chamber ensembles. The NYYS remains committed to making the benefits of its programs accessible beyond its core programs to young musicians in underserved communities through ongoing partnerships with the Youth of St. Luke’s, Harmony Program, Harlem School of the Arts, and more.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, NYYS offered both online and in-person programming, and enrolled over 300 students from around the country. Highlights of the year included the orchestra’s first professional recording; NYYS Jazz’s recordings with Sarah Elizabeth Charles and Wycliffe Gordon; masterclasses with artists ranging from composers Reena Esmail and to Tom Kitt and Alex Lacaimore, plus musicians from the Orchestra. All programs recorded and released their final performances virtually. The season culminated with performances at the Tribeca Film Festival and on CNN’s July 4th Special with Billy Ray Cyrus.

As we look to the return of a fully in-person season in 2021/22, New York Youth Symphony is grateful to all of its supporters who have helped it navigate this international pandemic. We look forward to welcoming everyone together at the annual benefit and many performances throughout the year!
