A Chat with the DJ – Jaap Ligthart

MB.. You Have very kindly agreed to do a mix for the podcast but I feel its always good for listeners to get to know you a little with a 5 step Q & A.. So we know that you play the deep, melodic and progressive style but when did you start to DJ and what made you take the step from punter to player ?? (as in the DJ kind)

Jaap: Thanks for having me! I started dj’ing around 22 years ago and after a year or so I had my first gigs, still local ofcourse. As time went by my gigs went further and further from home and around 2010 I started to play outside the .

MB.. If you can share one musical memory with us, as a DJ or punter, which has lodged itself in the memory bank, what is it??

Jaap: I think the best musical experience was at Dance Valley festival in Holland. I heard sets from Jimmy van M, and a b2b set from Sasha and Digweed, that was absolutely phenomenal.

MB.. Tell us about a significant moment in your Dj’ing career?? (A warm up slot for a name, release of a track, the moment we asked you to do a mix J !!)

Jaap: There are a lot of key moments to choose from but in 2014 I got to play the warmup set for Hernan Cattaneo in . Cattaneo was like a DJ god to me, and in previous sets before that I heard him play some of my music which was awesome but that moment during my warmup set Cattaneo walking up to me saying I did a great job was pretty significant.

MB: What are your 5 all time significantly important and memorable house tracks, ever….. The ones which you hear and it takes you to a time and place and just makes you smile !!!!!

MB.. What is your favourite place in the world and what makes it so special to you ??

Jaap: Over the years I’ve been to a lot of beautiful places, but when I get home after a gig to my wife and kids I truly feel at home. Sorry for the cheesy answer but it’s true.
