THRAKOMAKEDONES Our Town • , is a town in the northern region, . It was built in 1948 and situated in the foothills of the of . The population of the town is 6200 people and the area is 3.550 km2. • The community is quite sparsely populated and a large area consisting of city-planned areas and pine forest areas. Surrounded by the green of Parnitha, it has two main entrances to the city .It borders with Varibobi in the east, while in the south it borders with the Olympic Village, which hosted the athletes of the Olympic Games in 2004. There is also a building where you can play volleyball and do gymnastics . PARNITHA • Parnitha is a mountain of Attica, in the north of and Thrakomakedones is situated on it. It is covered by pine trees at the lowest and fir trees at its highest points. Parnitha has been declared an area of special natural beauty and at the same time constitutes a base of military installations on its 2 highest peaks. In one of the mountain peaks, the Parnitha Casino is built , which can be reached either by car or by cable car. BAFI • On the beautiful mountain of Parnitha, rich in flora and fauna, is the Bafi shelter. In combination with the fresh air and the calmness, you have the ability to escape from the city and the routine of everyday life. ADRIANIO AQUEDUCT • The Adrianio Aqueduct in Athens was built by the Roman Emperor Hadrian. It supplied its waters to the city of Athens from the rain waters of Penteli and Parnitha. Many Adrian Aqueducts are nowadays distinguished in Nea Ionia in the district of Eleftheripsi, on the border with the Kegeleza, which are nearby Municipalities. THE TOMB OF SOPHOCLES

• The so-called Sophocles tomb is located north of , above the central square of today’s Varybobi. In 1888, it was excavated by the authorities responsible for the Royal Premises, which now belong to the Greek state. A new archeological site was declared by the Central Archeological Council. THE VAULTED TOMBS

• The vaulted tombs are a sample of Mycenaean architecture. Only dead royal families or people of an aristocratic circle were burried there. They included a corridor that ends up in a circular dome. THE ROYAL LAND • In the land of Tatoi is the summer palace of the former Greek royal family. In the current location of Tatoi, it is believed that the ancient Delta ( an old palace) was located.
