British Chief Executive Officer (CEO) The organisation British Rowing, the National Governing Body of one of the UK’s most successful sports, invites applications for the role of CEO. British Rowing is the governing body for the sport of rowing. It is responsible for the training and selection of individual rowers and crews representing Great Britain, and for participation in and the development of rowing and indoor rowing in . The organisation represents rowing's interests on the British Olympic Association (BOA), the British Paralympic Association (BPA), the Sport and Recreation Alliance (SRA), UK Sport, Sport England, government and non- governmental agencies and many other partner organisations. The sport is in excellent health, with GB being the lead nation in the sport, 27,000 individual members across the country and 550 affiliated rowing clubs. The opportunities for British Rowing are significant, particularly with the London Olympics less than eight months away. The need to capture the excitement of the games next summer, building on the household names from the sport in the past and the current success of the high performance team is evident and this excitement should help to grow the popularity, awareness and participation levels in the sport which will boost British Rowing way beyond 2012. The role This will be the first CEO appointment for the governing body since 1991 and will therefore be a shift in emphasis from the way the organisation has been run. The main focus of the role will be a commercial one, exploiting the assets of British Rowing to make it more appealing to commercial partners and new members and hence, increasing commercial revenue streams and reducing the reliance on lottery funding and public funds. As Chief Executive you will have overall responsibility for the strategic direction and daily operations of British Rowing. You will report through the Chair to the Executive Board. The remit of the role includes: - Lead the organisation through the next stage of development and growth, have overall responsibility for the strategic direction and daily operations of British Rowing across participation and high-performance and ensure the organisation has a sound financial position from which to grow. - Develop a strong commercial capability to generate the revenues required to finance British Rowing. Review and implement immediately a comprehensive and credible funding strategy. - Establish strong, working relationships with British Rowing’s main UK partners as well as overseeing and maintaining on-going effective relationships with all relevant international partners.

The individual This is a role for a commercial leader, who will take ownership for the strategic leadership of an organisation that has already had tremendous success on the world stage dating back many years and which has already begun a period of transformation.

The new CEO must bring new thinking and fresh ideas, contributing to high-performance, participation, commercial and operational issues. This person must be able to represent British Rowing with a vast array of stakeholders, always ensuring the business is seen in the best possible light and attractive to potential commercial partners. The CEO must be engaging and influential with the people that matter. We are specifically looking for; - Proven ability to think at a strategic level, create and implement a vision for the organisation to incorporate its goals. - Business, financial and commercial acumen, with the ability to negotiate commercial contracts with sponsors and maintain excellent relations with current partners. Develops a robust financial strategy that will create surety in a post-Olympic environment. - Understand the nuances of stakeholder relationships at the interface between the commercial, public and voluntary sectors.
