    Augsburg University -- a tradition of wrestling excellence Augsburg’s wrestling team has dominated small-college competition over the last three decades. • Augsburg has finished among the top two teams in national competition 26 times since 1975, winning national titles 13 times in NCAA Division III competition and earning runner-up honors 13 times (12 in Division III, once in NAIA). Augsburg finished among the top four teams nationally in Division III competition every year from 1989 to 2012. • The Auggies have won 13 NCAA Division III national championships in the last 28 seasons (1991, 1993, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2007, 2010, 2015, 2019), the second-most in Division III history. Augsburg is one of only four NCAA schools to have won 10 or more college wrestling national titles (Oklahoma State has won 34 Division I team titles, while Iowa has won 23 Division I team titles and Wartburg has won 14 Division III team titles). Augsburg has also finished second 12 times since 1984 and in the top 20 nationally (NCAA from 1983 to present, NAIA pre-1983) every year since 1971. • Against opponents from Divisions II and III, Augsburg is 338-52-1 in dual meets since the 1989-90 season. Augsburg has lost just 48 matches to non-Division I opponents since the 1995-96 season. • Against strictly NCAA Division III opponents, Augsburg is 326-51-1 since the 1979-80 season. Since the 1989-90 season, Augsburg is 251-41-1 against Division III opponents. • Against opponents from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Augsburg is 211-7 since the 1975-76 season.

Maurice Hargrow is a 6'4", 170-pound shooting guard who averaged 18 points, six assists and six rebounds per game last season for Highland Park High School in St. Paul, Minn. He was also honored on the all-conference, all-metro and all-state teams at the conclusion of last season. Hargrow, who is an explosive leaper who possesses a nice outside shooting touch, led the Scots to the Minnesota State Class 3A Championship in his sophomore season. Hargrow is regarded by many recruiting services to be one of the top players in the Midwest. Jerry Holman is a 6' 11 ", 220-pound power forward/ center who averaged 13 points, seven rebounds and three blocks per game for Minneapolis Community and Technical College in Minneapolis, Minn. Holman is a tall, athletic player who will give the Golden Gophers much needed depth and an inside presence. O'Neal Mims is a 6'8", 205-pound power forward from Reagan High School in Austin, Texas. Mims, who has grown seven inches in the last 18 months from 6'1" to his current height of6'8", averaged 15 points and 12 rebounds per game in his junior prep season.

Cael Sanderson won four NCAA Division I championships and never lost a match during his four seasons of varsity competition at Iowa State. At the Division III level, Augsburg’s Marcus Levesseur never lost a match in four seasons; he was a four-time national champion. Kyle Dake won four NCAA titles at four different weight classes while at Cornell. On March 12 inside the Denny Sanford Premier Center, Joey Davis added his name to the list of legends. The senior 184-pounder for Notre Dame (Ohio) won a strategic bout with Pittsburgh-Johnstown’s Travis McKillop. After a scoreless five minutes, McKillop opened the third period with an escape, but the Compton, California, product quickly scored off a low-level attack and rode out the rest of the match for his date with history. It completed a 131-0 career and gave him his fourth NCAA title. Four other Division II wrestlers have won four championships. None, however, did so without losing a match. “I was stressed out this whole process. I’m really at a loss for words,” Davis said. “I worked tremendously hard. The coaches worked me so hard, but it has all been worth it. “It was a tough process (going from California to Ohio). I know a lot of guys get homesick, but for me I was trying to get the hell out of Compton.
