Time trials and four qualifying heat races had been completed when the rains began. The entire program was scrubbed and rescheduled for Saturday evening at 7:15 p.m. Knoxville limited sprints will be added to the race card. The second night of WoO races will be run on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. No limited sprints will run on Sunday. 4/25/92 Steve Kinser Claims Saturday WoO Knoxville Dollars by Bob Wilson Knoxville, Iowa (April 25) - Steve Kinser proved once again why he is a seven-time Knoxville Nationals champion as he powered to a twenty lap World of Outlaws win at the Marion County Fairgrounds Saturday night. Kinser, who started in the front row of the twenty-lap feature event, jumped to the point position as the race began and never relinquished the top spot in his Karl Kinser prepared Maxim mount. He was paid $3,500 for his efforts. Fellow front row starter Mark Kinser trailed in second position for the duration of the event and finished two hundred yards behind his cousin at the checkereds. Stevie Smith finished third after starting in that spot while Dave Blaney took passing honors as he finished fourth after starting seventeenth. Jac Haudenschild was fifth. Danny Lasoski, Bobby Davis, Jr., Randy Smith, Lee Brewer and Danny smith completed the top ten finishers. Rain once again threatened to cancel the event as the crowed estimated at nine thousand endured a sixty-five minute delay along with temperatures in the low forties. The added moisture made for an extremely quick track surface as six drivers dove under the existing one-lap track record. Mark Kinser found the quickest route around the half-mile oval as he shattered Bobby Allen's three year mark by nearly half a second with a clocking of 15.281. Qualifying heats went to Brent Antill in record time, Danny Smith, Danny Young, Dave Blaney and Kevin Doty. Sammy Swindell was involved in a three car wreck during the third heat and was unable to continue. Drivers from the World of Outlaws and those from Knoxville went through the grandstands during a break in the program to collect money for injured driver Doug Wolfgang. It was not known what the final dollar amount of their efforts proved to be. The limited sprints were pitted in the 4-H barns, their program was postponed to Sunday. 410 Results Time Trials (Qualifying Order): 1. 5m, Mark Kinser, Oolitic, IN (4) 15.281 (NTR); 2. 71m, Jimmy Evans, Hibbing, MN (13) 15.474; 3. 1, Sammy Swindell, Bartlett, TN (42) 15.505; 4. 11, Steve Kinser, Bloomington, IN (29) 15.608; 5. 77, Stevie Smith, New Oxford, PA (24) 15.664; 6. 29, Johnny Herrera, Albuquerque, NM www.KnoxvilleRaceway.com Page 2 of 62 (25) 16.698; 7. 55, Randy Smith, Mount Ayr, IA (14) 15.765; 8. 4, Bobby Davis Jr., Memphis, TN (46) 15.795; 9. 39, Bob White, Des Moines, IA (1) 15.805; 10. 1s, Lee Brewer Jr., Memphis, TN (27) 15.814; 11. 5H, Jac Haudenschild, Wooster, OH (45) 15.815; 12. 97B, Aaron Berryhill, Broken Arrow, OK (33) 15.836; 13. 8, Craig Keel, Weedsport, NY (34) 15.873; 14. 12$, Shane Carson, Oklahoma City, OK (6) 15.922; 15. 10, Danny Lasoski, Dover, MO (9) 15.922; 16. 2, Andy Hillenburg, Broken Arrow, OK (16) 15.922; 17. 1J, John Sernett, Savage, MN (8) 15.948; 18. 5, Gary Wright, Hooks, TX (28) 15.967; 19. 20, Brian Schnee, Sioux Falls, SD (19) 15.974; 20. 1m, Pat Moore, Moline, IL (49) 15.999; 21. 59, Brent Antill, Huxley, IA (36) 16.027; 22. 2D, Danny Smith, Danville, IN (35) 16.037; 23. 4J, Jeff Shepard, Baltimore, MD (10) 16.040; 24. 7c, Dave Blaney, Cortland, OH (52) 16.100; 25. 7, Kevin Doty, Milan, IL (11) 16.145; 26. 10T, Jeff Tuttle, West Des Moines, IA (23) 16.167; 27. 15x, Bob Johnson, Sioux City, IA (2) 16.176; 28. 47, Danny Young, Des Moines, IA (47) 16.182; 29. 6m, Tim Monson, Lakefield, MN (37) 16.186; 30. 7TW, Kenny Jacobs, Holmesville, OH (38) 16.199; 31. 24, Jerry Stone, Tulsa, OK (18) 16.211; 32. 7H2O, Pete Butler, Little Rock, AR (50) 16.219; 33. 21, Steve Beitler, Sedro Woolley, WA (41) 16.227; 34. 71, Dennis Moore Jr., Grinnell, IA (20) 16.246; 35. 70, Marlon Jones, Canton, SD (39) 16.281; 36. 2x, Shawn Moore, Moline, IL (44) 16.322; 37. 19, Bob Weuve, Newton, IA (26) 16.326; 38. 88, Terry McCarl, Pleasanton, CA (43) 16.331; 39. 8H, Butch Hanssen, Sioux Falls, SD (22) 16.477; 40. 5T, Jaymie Moyle, Bridgewater, SA, Aust. • Modelling Rankings in R: the Plackettluce Package
Computational Statistics (2020) 35:1027–1057 https://doi.org/10.1007/s00180-020-00959-3 ORIGINAL PAPER Modelling rankings in R: the PlackettLuce package Heather L. Turner1 · Jacob van Etten2 · David Firth1,3 · Ioannis Kosmidis1,3 Received: 30 October 2018 / Accepted: 18 January 2020 / Published online: 12 February 2020 © The Author(s) 2020 Abstract This paper presents the R package PlackettLuce, which implements a generalization of the Plackett–Luce model for rankings data. The generalization accommodates both ties (of arbitrary order) and partial rankings (complete rankings of subsets of items). By default, the implementation adds a set of pseudo-comparisons with a hypothetical item, ensuring that the underlying network of wins and losses between items is always strongly connected. In this way, the worth of each item always has a finite maximum likelihood estimate, with finite standard error. The use of pseudo-comparisons also has a regularization effect, shrinking the estimated parameters towards equal item worth. In addition to standard methods for model summary, PlackettLuce provides a method to compute quasi standard errors for the item parameters. This provides the basis for comparison intervals that do not change with the choice of identifiability constraint placed on the item parameters. Finally, the package provides a method for model- based partitioning using covariates whose values vary between rankings, enabling the identification of subgroups of judges or settings with different item worths. The features of the package are demonstrated through application to classic and novel data sets. This research is part of cooperative agreement AID-OAA-F-14-00035, which was made possible by the generous support of the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
