Offering Jobs to Bamyan Residents The Islamic republicgovernment of Afghanistan has always worked hard to ensure balanced development and improve livelihoods in rural communities by making considerable disbursements across the country. Fortunately, a large number of these activities have been channeling through the National Solidarity Programme of the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD/NSP) as it has been able to implement thousands of development and public utility projects in various sectors in 34 provinces of the country. As part of its continued efforts to better serve the people of Afghanistan, the MRRD has provided 14,000 villagers with employment opportunities by initiating the Maintenance Cash Grant (MCG) Project in Bamyan prov- ince. In addition to formally inaugurating the MCG Project in Bamyan province, Eng. Naseer Ahmad Durani the MRRD Minister has handed over a number of development projects including water supply networks, micro hydro power stations and roads during his visit along with other high-ranking government officials both in the center and in a number of districts of this province. “The Herat, Farah, Ghor, Badghis and Bamyan provinces will be covered in the second phase of the MCG Project. Moreover, the development projects belonging to 281 communities of Punjab and Waras districts of Bamyan province will be rehabilitated through the MCG Initiative at a sum of AFG 140.000,000. During implementation of these projects, approximately 14,032 villagers will be provided with short-term employ- ment opportunities”, said the MRRD Minister. “In the past two years, the MRRD has given more attention to the development of Bamyan province as facts and figures clearly show that most of the infrastructure projects have been executed in this province following the establishment of the National Unity Government. The MRRD has been able to implement 1,722 public utility projects at a cost of USD 35,000,000 in Bamyan province from 2002 to 2014. Taking the Bamyan overall population into account, the MRRD has invested USD 81 in each individual of this province until September 2014. Fortunately, the MRRD has been able to execute 745 uplift projects in various sectors at a sum of USD 14.9 million from the start of year 2015 as the current investment in each individual has increased from USD 81 to USD 115 in this province”, he added. “Currently, the work of many development projects is in progress in different parts of Bamyan province and the government is fully committed to ensuring social justice and balanced development in the implementation of the projects. Since the start of fiscal year 2016, the MRRD could manage to execute 200 welfare projects at a sum of USD 2.9 million in the districts of Punjab, Sighan, Sheebar, Waras, Kuhmard, Yakawlang and in a number of localities related to the center of Bamyan province. These projects include the construction of roads, bridges, culverts, retaining walls, micro hydro power stations, irrigation canals, water supply networks, health clinics and school buildings”, the MRRD Minister emphasized. The MRRD Minister added: “In addition to the MCG Project already initiated, the work of 155 development projects at a cost of USD 2.2 million is currently underway in a number of districts such as Yakawlang, Kuhmard, Waras, Sheebar, Sighan and Punjab. If God willing, these projects will successfully be completed until end of fiscal year 2016.In order to promote sustainable agriculture and increase agricultural productivity, the MRRD has further concentrated its efforts on strengthening the transport and irrigation sectors.Through building roads in most communities, the MRRD has been able to directly link the agricultural lands with the district and provincial markets. The implementation of
