Trust Waikato Lifeguard Services (Inc.)

October 2011 NEWSLETTER 2011/2012

HELP REQUIRED! If you can help us on Jandal Day, as either a collector or group/ area coordinator, please contact either myself or Anne-M aree and register. We need helpers in all areas – Hamilton, Auckland, Paeroa, Te Aroha, M atamata, M orrinsville, , Waihi and of course here at the beach. The more we have on board the less each person will have to do. This is our biggest fundraiser of each year, so please get behind us and offer a couple of hours. Jandal Day is on Friday 2nd December, but we will be collecting between November 28th through to Sunday 4th December. Thanks

Our thoughts go out to everyone who has been affected by the running aground of the Rena and the terrible aftermath. It has been great seeing everyone rallying around to help. Ring 0800 645 774 to register as a volunteer, 0800 333 771 to report affected wildlife or 0800 645 744 to report oil coming ashore. So far there has not been any ‘nasty stuff’ hitting our end of the beach, so fingers crossed there will be some of our beach directly unaffected by oils.

NEWS FLASH The new carpet & vinyl have been laid and it looks great. Also, amazing transformation is happening outside with the re-alignment of the dunes and access ways for our IRB’s and Tractor. Once Council have completed the

work there will actually approximately 40% more put back into mid dune and replanted with the appropriate dune plants. Obviously this is going to take a lot of work and effort, but if any of you have time during the week to help with the planting please contact Kimberly on 022 089 0557. We will also end up with an area out the front of the club house to use for presentations etc, so all very exciting.

CLUB FUNDRAISER Don’t forget our fundraiser Labour weekend Sunday 23rd of October.

We are having a Rugby World Cup function on that date – starting at 7pm.

Tickets are $25 per person and there will be food available throughout the night

Phone me – 07 863 5108 - or call into the office to book your ticket. Numbers are limited so get in quick.

Sundays. And as from Labour weekend we will have food available from 5pm on these evenings so come down and enjoy our Club facilities.

We were very fortunate last week to receive a grant from Lions of Waihi Beach. This will be used to purchase 12 new life jackets for our club and a lockable storage cupboard for our IRB shed.
