2007 ~ Student Government Program in 150+ Schools The BDE(Bureau of Education) in Hinche began the planning of the Catholic Schools Program, PECH, to develop strong leaders with a good moral foundation and a focus on the best interest of the community and the country. The PECH Program established Student Government programs in the more than 150 Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Hinche and became a model for all schools, private and public in Haiti.

2013-15 ~ 350 Teachers Certified in Kellogg Program The BDE Hinche was selected by the Kellogg Foundation to participate in a three year Teacher Training Program to provide training leading up to the certification of 350 Catholic School Teachers in the Diocese of Hinche and on the island of La Gonave.

2014-16 ~ Computer Labs installed in Catholic Schools Through a partnership with the HEST, Bethel Computers for Education and VCU schools in the Diocese of Hinche have established school computer labs to assist with new learning technology and access to additional educational resources.

2017 ~3.25 Million Literacy Program in 40 schools The BDE Hinche was selected as a participant in the Early Grade Literacy Program funded by the Kellogg Foundation and USAID and administered by Notre Dame’s ACE program. Students in 40 Catholic Schools are taking part in this essential early intervention program to improve literacy and ensure greater success in life long learning.

2018 ~ Model School Network Project Begins The BDE Hinche, Summits Education and the Government Education Department, MENFP, begin to implement the first programs of the Model School Network project with funding from the Kellogg Program. One of the first projects of the program is a school feeding program in partnership with the KORE Foundation, providing fresh eggs to schools. HEST Matching Fund Challenge The Haitian Education Support Team Matching Fund Challenge was a great success surpassing our goal of $12,000, raising $12,359 ensuring the matching contributions of our generous donors doubled the gifts that you provided for a total of $24,359 for this campaign. The BDE provides training, materials, and support for more than 150 schools in the Diocese of Hinche Haiti. Many of the schools are twinned with Richmond parishes but many have no outside support and depend on the BDE for essential support. Many of the large programs and grant opportunities that have benefitted teachers and schools throughout the Diocese of Hinche highlighted on the front page have been awarded to the Diocese of Hinche because of the confidence that organizations like the Kellogg Foundation, Notre Dame’s ACE Program, USAid, and CRS have in the Hinche Bureau of Education. This is a direct result of the continued partnership of the BDE and the HEST and the generous support of our donors. Students from St. Martin de Porres school win the Rotary Educational Competition beating public and private schools throughout the Central Plateau.

Teachers in schools throughout the Diocese of Hinche have the resources to encourage and inspire students in the classroom regardless of their twinning status.

Children attend Summer Reading Camp to catch up and succeed going forward.
