black history week "Reflections," a newspaper commemorating Black History Week, was published this week by students, faculty and staff here. "Black is the view that lends the closest look," is the subtitle of the eight page paper, which offers essays, poetry, drawings, and a four-page insert written by persons outside of UConn. The introductory essay, by Ken Hale, assistant to the Associate Dean of Students, dedicates the publication to Malcolm X, the "most charismatic and pivotal figure in African-American history." "A Case for Saint Malcolm" is presented by Donald B. Gibson, an English professor. "A View from the Other Side of the Track," by B. Magubane, an anthropology professor, carefully dissects a recent AAUP position paper on racism. Other essay topics include prisons, the problems of young black children in the mostly white university area, and jazz dance, among many other things.
