IMO INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE PUBLIC NOTICE DISENGAGEMENT OF REVENUE CONSULTANTS

All Revenue Consultants with Internal Revenue Service are hereby disengaged till further notice.

A statement issued by the Executive Chairman of IIRS, Justice Remijus Okoye states that the resolved is in line with the directives of HIs Excellency, the Governor of Imo State.

Sequel to the government directive, the Revenue Service Chairman noted that the disengagement of revenue consultants and various revenue contractors will enable the new management achieve a harmonized collection of all government revenues and levies, in line with the administration's policies to increase internally generated revenue (IGR) of the state.

To this end, all revenue contractors / consultants are by this announcement advised to stop the collection of government revenue forthwith.

Any consultant who contravenes this directive, does so at this or her own risk.

Be guided accordingly.

WAIVER ON PERSONAL INCOME TAX (PIT) FOR NON-FILING 2020 FISCAL

In line with the provisions of section 41 of the Personal Income Tax Act (PITA) 2011 which required that,

“All taxable adults file returns of their income in the prescribed form (Form A) and detailing specific information in relation to their income and taxes; thereon with the tax authority of the state of residence”.

“The scheme applies to self-employed individuals and personal income earners who will, without notice or demand, file a return of income earned in the preceding year and pay the requisite PIT to the relevant tax authority of the state of residence on or before 31st March of every year.

“It is pertinent to note that His Excellency Senator has graciously waived penalty on non-filing of information on their personal income returns as a palliative measure to cushion the effect of Covid-19 Lockdown on taxpayers”.

To this end, all personal income earners and self-employed individuals who have not complied to the filling of their returns are by this notice advised to take advantage of this gesture to file their returns on or before 30th June, 2020 at IIRS head office at #76 Okigwe Road, Owerri.

WAIVER ON 5% CONSUMPTION TAX FOR NON-FILING AND NON-PAYMENT

The Imo State House of Assembly No. 35 of 2019, passed on 4th December, 2019 and which came into effect on 15th December 2019 requires that;

“Every consumer in the state to pay 5% tax for the use and consumption of any Hotels, hotel facilities, motels, guest houses, event centers, commercial halls, auditoriums, event fields, restaurants, fast foods outlets, bars, eateries and places designated for public use including, persons, companies, partnership, institution owning, managing or controlling any business or supplying any goods or services chargeable under law, referred to as collecting agent, to collect for and on behalf of the state government and file to IIRS, 5% consumption tax imposed by this law”.

The hospitality industry and allied services affected by this law shall within 30 days of the commencement of this law (15th December 2019) or upon commencement of business file their monthly returns on the 15th of every succeeding month.

Imo State Governor, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma has graciously waived the principal sum of the 5% consumption tax for Four months (March - June 2020) the interests and penalties for six months (January - June 2020) on non-payment and non-filling of the said tax to cushion the effect of Covid-19 Lockdown on hotels and allied services.

To this end, organizations operating in the hospitality industry who have not complied with the filing and payment of 5% consumption tax are by this notice advised to take advantage of the gesture, file and pay their three months arrears of December 2019 - February 2020) 5% consumption tax at IIRS Head Office at 76 Okigwe Road, Owerri on or before 15th July, 2020.

ADDITIONAL COVID 19 PALLIATIVES TO IMO STATE TAXPAYERS

As businesses in the state gradually recover, the Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS) has further considered the effects of Covid-19 on our esteemed taxpayers and hereby announces the following additional palliatives / incentives.

1. The deadline for filling of the annual Personal Income Tax (PIT) returns which was originally set as 32st March , 2020 is hereby further extended to 30th September, 2020. 2. Penalties and Interests that hitherto would have accrued for the late filing of Personal Income Tax (PIT) returns are now waived from 1st August to 30th September, 2020. 3. The Service hereby extends to 30th September, 2020, the initial deferred deadline of 15th July, 2020 given to the operators in the Tourism and Hospitality sector for the filling and payment of three months Consumption Tax arrears for the period Dec. 2019 - Feb. 2020. This incentive is subject to immediate registration and timely filing of all monthly returns on or before 30th September, 2020. 4. The payment and remittance of PAYE deductions by all Private schools operating in the state have been waived only for the period of 1st August to 31st August, 2020. 5. Tricycle and Motorcycle operations in the Transport sector shall enjoy a grace period on payment of daily tolls for the period of 1st june to 30th September, 2020.

In line with social distancing measures, taxpayers can engage in online Tax Audit/Investigations reconciliation meetings. The IIRS encourages all its esteemed taxpayers to adhere STRICTLY to Covd-19 protocol issued by the Imo State government and NCDC
