Turtle Rock Guitar Book 5.Pdf
Preface to the 5th Edition This book and the Guitar Club that went with it started because one of my old counsellors put a few guitar chords into the official camp song book. Those chords were the reason I learned to play. That summer, when we were last-year campers, regular activities were cancelled one day because of stormy weather. We all piled into the lodge, where we sat with Ryley and her guitar, singing all afternoon. It was the first time a lot of us had ever sung our favourite camp songs with a guitar. At the time, I'd never even heard recordings of most of them. (This is before Napster, kids.) I remain ever thankful that we didn't play Rainy Day Bingo that afternoon. At the end of the summer I started writing in chords for the rest of the song book, which gradually led to the first edition of The Mi-A-Kon-Da Guitar Book. Since then, this book's seen a few new places and met a lot of new songs. It seemed about time to give it a name that would bring everything and everyone together. Turtle Rock does just this. On Birch Island, it's where the whole camp meets after lights out on Mi-A-Kon-Da night to sing quiet songs by the fire, listen to the camp legend, and watch the full moon rise over the lake. It's also where we meet for special cook-outs, reflections, and early in the morning to watch that bittersweet Last Sunrise of the Summer. -
Pioneers Office of the Chancellor
FALL 2013 MAGAZINE HERE COME THE PIONEERS Office of the Chancellor Dear Readers: I came to the University of Denver in the fall of 1981 as a new faculty member in what was then our department of chemistry. In the 32 years since, I’ve been so pleased to be part of the sciences at DU. We’ve been blessed with many talented people among our faculty—nationally and internationally competitive scholars who came to DU to teach and work with students. The world in which I made my career as a faculty member was one percolating with ideas, one that engaged immensely talented colleagues and students and produced real and important results. We graduated fantastic students whose subsequent lives and careers are making a positive difference in America and the world. These outcomes relate directly to our vision of being a great private university dedicated to the public good. Wayne Armstrong Wayne While that is surely still the case today, the external context within which we operate is undergoing considerable change. Competition for research funding is far greater than was the case just a few years ago, and scale has become important. At many universities, large clusters of research groups work together on problems of great complexity, their work fueled by much larger research grants that make up an increasing proportion of the funds available. In the instructional enterprise, student interest in STEM disciplines (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) is growing rapidly. Among those admitted to our new class of first-year students for the 2013 fall term, 32 percent indicated an interest in majoring in these disciplines. -
Sammy Davis Jr . Sammy Davis Jr
154 AS/A LEVEL MUSIC STUDY GUIDE AS PRESCRIBED WORK 2017 SAMMY DAVIS JR. Sammy Davis Jr . Sammy Davis Jr. (1925–1990) spent his whole life in show business. He realised that when he was a child his father had protected him from the racist attitudes that were common at the time. Rejoining the Will Mastin Trio after the war, he endorsement developed as a versatile performer who could to sing, dance and act. He lost an eye in a serious car accident in 1954. During his recovery he was introduced to Judaism and he converted a few years later. In the 1950s and 1960s he appeared in leading roles in Broadway shows.subject Movie roles included Ocean’s 11 (1960), made with fellow members of the ‘Rat Pack’, a group of singer-actors which included Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. Davis’s singing was influenced by Frank Sinatra’s style. From his recordings certain characteristics stand out: educationl: Davis has a warm, powerful voice, with a wide range. He is able to sustain his tone and sing sensitively and strongly. He has a very good sense of timing. He is able to judge phrasing, knowing when to delay or anticipate a phrase, or interpret a melody to suit his own vocal range. -
