My mother, Hildegard Thiessen, has always been a quiet inspiration in my life. Her words may be few, but she has always been a strong force in our family. As a young child, I always knew that my mom was there for me and my three siblings. She provided all our needs, and did it very quietly and efficiently. She sewed most of the clothes for me and my sisters, which at the time I didn’t realize what a time commitment that took. She ALWAYS had a hot meal ready at the end of the day (even after working full-time outside the home). Again, now I realize what a time commitment that was! She encouraged me and my siblings to practice our piano (or flute, violin, organ) lessons daily, although I know she put up with resistance on that. She worked hard inside and outside the home to provide us all with good, solid educations. Most importantly, she modeled what a loving and submissive Christian wife looked like.

Now that I’m a wife and mother, I realize what my mother did for me without any words. She has loved and served along-side my father Wilmer for almost 60 years with few complaints. (And for those of you who know him, you know that she’s had a lot to deal with!) She modeled what God has called me to do and be in my own life: a loyal and respectful wife and mother. Although her role in my life has changed throughout the years, she still is the woman I turn to for inspiration. I am proud to say that I’m Hildegard’s daughter, and I hope to become the wife, mother, and grandmother that she is. - Vonda Thiessen Kinser

I have always known that I had a great mother. I knew that she loved me and cared for me greatly. However, this year has made me realize just how truly wonderful my mother is. I have spent the last semester working as a first-grade teacher. I am amazed and deeply saddened by the relationship many of my students have with their mothers. I thought taking care of was common sense. However, I have been enlightened. Many mothers just don’t know how to take care of their children. They have no idea what it means to be a good mom. I have learned that a huge part of being a great mother comes from the example that your mom set for you.

I am so incredibly thankful for the wonderful example that my grandmother set for my mom. She was loving, patient, caring, and kind. In turn, my mom was all of these things to me and my siblings. My mother has set the most amazing example for me. Because of this, I know when the day comes for me and my sisters to raise children, we will all excel. Not because we are any better than anyone else, but because we have had the best example of how to be an amazing mom.

Thanks Mom for caring enough to set a good example. I wouldn’t be the person I am without you! - Chelsea Bebermeyer

I thank God for my mom, Norma Tippin, for she has been a patient teacher in so many ways. From academics to life skills, I can legitimately say I am where I am today in part because of her steadfast discipline and challenging instruction as I grew up. Some of her lines, "This house doesn't have a maid!" and "S-O-C-K-S" (you'll have to ask her what that one means), have stuck with me, oddly enough! I'm so glad that I have a mom who has faithfully (alongside my dad) nurtured and raised me and my siblings to love Jesus and seek Him first, just as she does. I love you, Mom! - Matt Tippin
