Programmers Club ASSOCIATION FOR COMPUTING Machinery (ACM), Student Chapter

15 A Brief Introduction to the Club: This Club, established in 2014, specializes in programming and represents the student branch of ACM International at PSUT. The Club aims to help raise the level of PSUT students’ programming skills, problem-solving, and the ability to compete in regional and global competitions related to logic and thinking through programming. In recent years, we have come to realize that Jordanians associate ‘Computer Science’ with words and phrases such as "programming", or "an employee who writes computer codes in order to make a living", This idea seems very strange after our study of this science! Therefore, we have made it our mission to confront the mistaken image of computer science that is commonly held in our society. We want to show Jordanian society that computer science is actually a complete science, like physics, or astronomy; and that computers are simply a tool! You do not need to write code to use computer sciences, they are everywhere! Most Important Activities and Achievements ‏ • Organizing the "PSUT Coding Marathon", an annual competition held by the Club that simulates global programming competitions and aims to strengthen students’ logical thinking and enhance their ‘problem-solving’ skills. The latest event was held on Saturday 13/4/2019. Moatasem Al-Kayed won first place, second place went to Hamza Al-Zagha, and third place was held by Muhammad Al-Kilani. • Organizing the "Mini Coding Marathon" event, an annual competition for junior students in the field of programming and problem-solving. The aim is to train fresh members and raise their level of programming skills. The latest event was held on Saturday 6/4/2019. Student Laith Al-Saqqa won first place, second place was held by Yahya Abido, and third place went to Omar Al-Asir.

16 • Holding training courses attended by hundreds of students from various Jordanian universities, in preparation for international programming competitions at multiple levels.

• Organizing the "Codability" summer training camp. The camp aims to build the programming capabilities of school students and prepare them to participate in international competitions such as the World Olympiad in Informatics (IOI).

17 • Organizing the Jordanian Olympiad in Informatics (JOI) for school students from all around Jordan. • "The Computer Science Hour for School Students” event. This is an interactive activity that aims to give school students an overview of computer science and its importance.

• Establishing the "Local Hack Day: Hackathon" event. This event took place on Saturday 1/12/2018 with the participation of 150 students and graduates from various Jordanian universities. The aim was to learn, build and participate, since the event allowed the participants to build their own projects in any of the modern technology fields, under the supervision of numerous specialists in these fields.
