They also support rich development opportunities that help students to understand how to work in groups, in addition to cultivating practical skills, such as communication skills, teamwork and leadership skills. In this way, students’ talents and energies are discovered and used to their benefit. The student clubs have become more diversified in line with the widening range of disciplines taught by the University and the needs of the local community. - These clubs are established under the supervision of the Deanship of Student Affairs, by a decision from the President and upon the recommendation of the Dean, and they are based at the University. Vision: To increase the efficacy of student clubs and increase their number, with clubs that complement the University's taught disciplines. Objectives: Student clubs have numerous goals that serve the University as a whole, and its students. The most important goals are as follows: 1. To encourage volunteer work, public service, and teamwork among the University’s students. 2. To develop and encourage talents and hobbies. 3. To provide an opportunity for PSUT students to participate in activities that suit their interests and abilities. 4. To support the taught academic disciplines in a practical way work to raise students' technical competence. 3 The Student Clubs Types of Student Clubs: First: Scientific Clubs 1. Its mission is to educate students about the Institute’s role and to help them develop their skills, and to set up various activities of all kinds for students. The vision of the PSUT branch of IEEE is to enrich students' practical experience by making field visits to various facilities that will raise their level of engineering awareness and sense. It also undertakes to organize various training workshops that suit different disciplines at minimal prices. Each workshop is usually followed by an appropriate project or field visit, in order to ensure that the theoretical and practical levels reach the same standard. The club was established in 2000. Most Important Activities and Achievements: • Students from the IEEE Club, along with the ACM Club, participated in the IEEEXtreme Competition and achieved impressive results globally. Teams from PSUT ranked 4th, 8th, 16th, and 94th in the world at the Competition which took place on October 24th, 2018. 6 • Organizing an introductory lecture for the IEEEXtreme Competition. PSUT students were given many tips and information that would help them to perform better in solving problems in the competition. • Organizing a lecture entitled: “Electricity in Jordan”, presented by Eng. Alaa Manoun on Saturday, 1/12/2018. The most important topics covered by the workshop included: an introduction to renewable energy and its types; an introduction to photovoltaic systems, how they work and their most important characteristics; and a session on the renewable energy sector and the photovoltaic sector in the Jordanian market. He also gave tips on how to seek work in this field in the Jordanian market. 7 • Organizing a lecture entitled "Internet Security" which was held on Wednesday, 11/4/2019. The lecture introduced students to the latest technology used in the Internet of Things and the challenges that face them. It was presented by lecturers from Cisco, Dr. Ammar Rais and Engineer Mohammad Jenini. The lecture was attended by a number of faculty members from the Schools of Engineering and Computing Sciences, in addition to 50 students from both Schools. • A lecture entitled “Introduction to Power and Energy” was presented by Dr. Omar Al-Ubaidi on 4/11/2018. This event was attended by students from PSUT who enjoyed the lecture very much. 8 • Organizing a lecture entitled "Energy in Jordan". The lecture was presented by Eng. Nidal Abdullah of the National Center for Energy Research from the Royal Scientific Society on 3/8/2019. The topics under discussion included energy standards in Jordan and its electrical stations that work on fossil fuels and renewable energy resources. • Organizing a lecture entitled "Networking Basics", in cooperation with the Cisco Academy. The event was held at the University on 15/3/2018. The lecture addressed networking basics and introduced the students to the Cisco Academy at PSUT. 9 • Organizing a lecture entitled “Artificial Intelligence, Technology and Humanity”. The lecture was held on Tuesday 24/7/2018, and presented by Eng. Hussain Al-Sarabi, a PSUT graduate, who is currently studying for his MSc. in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Georgia in the USA.
