SOUTHERN JEWISH SPORTS HALL OF FAME TO INDUCT 2011 HONOREES ON JUNE 26 AT SKIRBALL CULTURAL CENTER

Horse racing luminaries Jerry & Ann Moss, former University of football standout Taylor Mays, television commentators and Jay Privman and radio personality Vic “The Brick” Jacobs are among the honorees to be inducted into the Southern California Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in a gala ceremony Sunday, June 26 at the Skirball Cultural Center.

From to Mark Spitz, the Southern California Jewish Sports Hall of Fame (SCJSHOF) has honored more than 250 of the Southland’s finest Jewish athletic individuals since its inception in 1990. The SCJSHOF’s 15th class boasts a list of notables from across the sports spectrum.

KTLA sports anchor and AM570/KLAC radio host Steve Hartman will once again serve as master of ceremonies for the event. Hartman was inducted into the SCJSHOF in 2004.

Jerry & Ann Moss are the 2011 recipients of the esteemed Pillar of Achievement Award. Jerry Moss, co-founder of A&M Records, and his wife Ann have have only surpassed their accomplishments in the horse racing world – as owners of champion thoroughbreds, including the legendary Zenyatta – with their benevolent work in the greater community.

A four-time All-America honoree (including three first-team nods) as a defensive back at USC, Mays is now playing safety for the San Francisco 49ers.

Gottlieb, an All-CIF basketball player at Tustin High, went on to lead the nation in assists as point guard for Oklahoma State. Currently ranked No. 10 all-time NCAA among career assist leaders, Gottlieb now dishes college basketball commentary for ESPN.

Award-winning writer Jay Privman covers horse racing from a number of prestigious positions. The national correspondent for Daily Racing Form can also be seen as part of the on-air broadcast team for ESPN, ABC and Versus, as well as host of “Thoroughbred ” every Saturday morning on KLAA AM 830.

Jacobs has spent nearly a quarter of a century on Los Angeles airwaves, providing his unique style of sports reporting and analysis on television and radio. An annual fixture on the Chabad Telethon, Jacobs is currently heard each weekday afternoon as a member of “The Loose Cannons” on AM570/KLAC. Other inductees to the 15th class of the Southern California Jewish Sports Hall of Fame are:

• Jerry & Ann Moss, Pillar of Achievement Award honorees; owners of Zenyatta • Taylor Mays, four-time All-America defensive back at USC, now with San Francisco • Doug Gottlieb, collegiate basketball star & current ESPN analyst; • Jay Privman, award-winning ESPN/ABC, Versus & Daily Racing Form correspondent; • Vic “The Brick” Jacobs, personality currently on AM570//KLAC • Phillip Erenberg , Olympic silver medal-winning gymnast; • Mike Enfield, NSCAA All-American on 2004 UCLA national champion soccer team & former Los Angeles Galaxy player; • Shawn Lipman, World Cup rugby competitor; • Fairfax High basketball/baseball/track star Marc Bluestone; • UCLA/Fremont High & Pacific Coast League baseball standout Dick Conger; • Joseph Axelrad, All-American goalkeeper on 2004-2005 UCLA national champion water polo team; • Samuel Bailey, member of three UCLA national championship water polo teams & 2004 CIF Division I Coach of the Year

The Southern California Jewish Sports Hall of Fame will also honor three Southland high school students for their achievements both on and off the athletic field. Ashley Grossman of Harvard- Westlake School and Max Fried of Montclair Prep will be named the SCJSHOF High School Athletes of the Year, and Andrew Kallick of Brentwood School will receive the Allan Malamud Scholarship Award.
