HE CHERISHES CAMARADERIE As the 2017 season begins, Deidre is on the road to recov- ery and, according to Jermaine, is going to be okay. She plans “Every day, Brandon gives you a big smile and a nodding to come to her first Spartan football game on Senior Day, the of the head at every practice. Senior Day is a long way off and Kelly says right now he and the Spartans are just focused on what’s right in front of them. This week it’s Cal Poly and its tricky triple-option offense.

Once a scout-team star, Kelly is a starting cornerback. “This is going to be a great year,” Kelly said. “I’m a senior and it’s time for me to step up and make some noise. We’re all going to make some noise this year. I can’t wait.”

Brandon Monroe combines power, grace and agility when he carries the football.

The communication studies major had plans to go into high school coaching. That seemed natural since Monroe is known for helping teammates. Now, he has his sights set on becoming a firefighter.

“It (firefighting) will remind me of football, the camaraderie, and the leadership that goes into being a firefighter. You have your unit. You have to have trust. I think I’ll be able to directly correlate football to firefighting,” said the Spartans’ fullback whose personal playing goal is to play in every regular-season game.

While Monroe is focused on football in CEFCU , his big picture portrait includes internship opportunities in the fertile Silicon Valley.

Brandon Monroe has a plan for his life.
