KEY SPEAKERS KEYNOTE ADDRESS OPENING AND KEYNOTE SESSION Wednesday, 24 August ● 0830‐1030 hours Wang graduated from the Drilling Engineering Department, China University of Petroleum (Huadong). He has over 30 years of working experience in China's oil and gas industry. Wang Dongjin He was appointed Deputy Director‐General of Jiangsu Petroleum Exploration Bureau Vice President of in July 1995, and then Vice President of China National Oil & Gas Exploration and CNPC, President of Development Corporation (CNODC) in December 1997. In October 2002, he became PetroChina the President of CNODC. In December 2002, he started to hold the concurrent positions of President of CNPC International (Kazakhstan) Ltd and President of AktobeMunaiGas Corp. In January 2004, he was appointed Assistant President of CNPC and also worked as President of CNODC. He became Vice President of CNPC in September 2008. Wang was appointed the President of PetroChina in July 2013. WELCOME ADDRESS OPENING AND KEYNOTE SESSION Wednesday, 24 August ● 0830‐1030 hours D. Nathan Meehan, 2016 Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) president, is senior executive adviser at Baker Hughes, advising executive management on reservoir and geoscience issues. Previously, he was president of CMG Petroleum Consulting, vice president of engineering for Occidental Oil & Gas; and general manager exploration D. Nathan Meehan and production at Union Pacific Resources. Senior Executive Adviser, Baker Meehan earned a BSc in physics from the Georgia Institute of Technology, an MSc in Hughes petroleum engineering from the University of Oklahoma, and a PhD degree in Petroleum Engineering from Stanford University. He previously served as chairman of the CMG Reservoir Simulation Foundation and as director of the Computer Modelling Group, Vanyoganeft Oil Company, Pinnacle Technologies, SPE Board of Directors, and JOA Oil & Gas BV. He served on advisory boards of The University of Texas and the University of Houston and currently serves on the EME industry relations board at Pennsylvania State, the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission and the Advisory Board of World Oil. He is the recipient of the Lester C. Uren Award for Distinguished Achievement in Petroleum Engineering and the Degolyer Distinguished Service Medal and served as a Distinguished Lecturer. He is a licensed professional engineer in four states and has published scores of papers. Kennedy promised to explore a “New Frontier.” -- a hybrid of challenges and opportunities that promised progress in both domestic and foreign affairs.58 In essence, Kennedy advocated for a new America not chained down by the traditional approaches of the Republican administration before him. In many way, Kennedy achieved what he desired: a new, more open-minded way of approaching international issues. Though Kennedy struggled to develop a new diplomatic approach to China, he did show a willingness to compromise with the Chinese in regards to the islands of Quemoy and Matsu.59 Kennedy remained a “cold warrior” throughout his presidency but he did begin to cautiously portray himself to the communist Chinese as more open to negotiation than the Eisenhower administration. This is best reflected in Kennedy’s stance on the islands of Quemoy and Matsu during the 1960 presidential debate. The crisis between the Republic of China (ROC)60 and the communist People’s Republic of China (PRC) was one of the great political tinderboxes for American foreign policy in the 1950s and 1960s. In 1949, during the administration of President Harry S. Truman, Mao Zedong conquered mainland China, defeating the nationalist government of Jiang Jieshi.61 The Nationalists fled to the heavily fortified island of Formosa, but Jiang’s forces managed to hold the offshore islands of Quemoy and Matsu in the Battle of Guningtou (October 1949).

Liu Zhi's Xuzhou Pacification Office, having concentrated onto the cities of Shangqiu, Xuzhou and coastal Lianyungang and along the railway lines of Jin-Pu & Long-Hai, failed to give the relief to Jinan the provincial city of Shandong Province. Mao Tse-tung continued the communist strategy of attacking one outpost while impeding or eliminating the enemy relief. To link up the „liberated‟ area of Shandong Province and northern Jiangsu Province as well as to cut off the right arm of Liu Zhi's army in Xuzhou, Mao Tse-tung proposed to first attack Huang Baitao's army group that was in charge of the area between Long-Hai Railway to the north and the Huai-he River to the south and between coastal Lianyungang to the east and Xuzhou to the west. For sake of taking out Huang Baitao's army, Mao Tse-tung instructed that more than half of CCP Eastern China Field Army, about 300,000, should be deployed against the relief armies of Qiu Qingquan and Li Mi. As synchronized actions, undercover Communist generals, Heh Jifeng, who provoked the July 7th, 1937 Marco Polo Bridge Incident, was asked to defect to the communist at the exact moment when Huang Baitao was en route to Xuzhou.

Standley, Jr. was a colonel of the U.S. Army during World War II with some 10,000 troops under his command for the 368th Infantry regiment. He was also 1st Lieutenant Commanding Officer of Company 802 of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). He was in the CCC from 1935-1941 in Colorado and Oklahoma. This collection contains his recollections and documents from his time spent in the South Pacific, CCC, Taiwan, and World War II.
