An Efficient Method for Simulating Typhoon Waves Based on A
Journal of Marine Science and Engineering Article An Efficient Method for Simulating Typhoon Waves Based on a Modified Holland Vortex Model Lvqing Wang 1,2,3, Zhaozi Zhang 1,*, Bingchen Liang 1,2,*, Dongyoung Lee 4 and Shaoyang Luo 3 1 Shandong Province Key Laboratory of Ocean Engineering, Ocean University of China, 238 Songling Road, Qingdao 266100, China; [email protected] 2 College of Engineering, Ocean University of China, 238 Songling Road, Qingdao 266100, China 3 NAVAL Research Academy, Beijing 100070, China; [email protected] 4 Korea Institute of Ocean, Science and Technology, Busan 600-011, Korea; [email protected] * Correspondence: [email protected] (Z.Z.); [email protected] (B.L.) Received: 20 January 2020; Accepted: 23 February 2020; Published: 6 March 2020 Abstract: A combination of the WAVEWATCH III (WW3) model and a modified Holland vortex model is developed and studied in the present work. The Holland 2010 model is modified with two improvements: the first is a new scaling parameter, bs, that is formulated with information about the maximum wind speed (vms) and the typhoon’s forward movement velocity (vt); the second is the introduction of an asymmetric typhoon structure. In order to convert the wind speed, as reconstructed by the modified Holland model, from 1-min averaged wind inputs into 10-min averaged wind inputs to force the WW3 model, a gust factor (gf) is fitted in accordance with practical test cases. Validation against wave buoy data proves that the combination of the two models through the gust factor is robust for the estimation of typhoon waves. -

Mca Leaders Sign Condolence Book for Deng
21 FEB 1997 MCA-Deng MCA LEADERS SIGN CONDOLENCE BOOK FOR DENG KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 21 (Bernama) -- MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Ling Liong Sik and several other party leaders today signed the condolence book for China's paramount leader, Deng Xiaoping, who died on Wednesday, at the Chinese embassy in Jalan Ampang, here. Those present were the party's deputy president, Datuk Lim Ah Lek, secretary-general Datuk Ting Chew Peh, vice-president Datuk Chua Jui Meng, Youth chief Datuk Chan Kong Choy, Wanita leader Datuk Teng Gaik Kwan and Datuk Tan Chai Ho. Led by Dr Ling, they performed the traditional bow in front of Deng's portrait with words of eternal remembrance of comrade Deng written in Mandarin. Speaking to reporters later, Dr Ling, who is Transport Minister, Deng would be best remembered for the modernisation of China. He credited Deng with the political stability in China which had led to strong economic growth in the last decade. He hoped there would be a smooth transition of leadership as China could provide the inspiration and growth for the whole region and the world at large. The MCA is the third largest Chinese-based ruling political party after the Communist Party of China and the Nationalist Party of Taiwan. However, unlike them, the MCA was formed by western-educated capitalists who aimed to bring more political rights to the straits-born Chinese. Later, DAP secretary-general Lim Kit Siang led a 12-member delegation to pay their last respects. Dewan Negara President Tan Sri Mohamed Ya'acob also signed the condolence book which will be open from 9am to 5pm daily until Tuesday, except on Sunday. -

Case Study Women in Politics: Reflections from Malaysia
International IDEA, 2002, Women in Parliament, Stockholm (http://www.idea.int). This is an English translation of Wan Azizah, “Perempuan dalam Politik: Refleksi dari Malaysia,” in International IDEA, 2002, Perempuan di Parlemen: Bukan Sekedar Jumlah, Stockholm: International IDEA, pp. 191-202. (This translation may vary slightly from the original text. If there are discrepancies in the meaning, the original Bahasa-Indonesia version is the definitive text). Case Study Women in Politics: Reflections from Malaysia Wan Azizah Women constitute half of humanity, and it follows that any decision-making, whether at the personal, family, societal or public levels, should be mindful of and involve the participation of women in the making of those decisions. Women’s political, social and economic rights are an integral and inseparable part of their human rights. Democracy is an inclusive process, and therefore in a functioning democracy, the points of view of different interest groups must be taken into account in formulating any decision. The interest and opinions of men, women and minorities must be part of that decision-making process. Yet far from being included in the decision-making process, women find themselves under-represented in political institutions. Numerous challenges confront women entering politics. Among them are lack of party support, family support and the "masculine model" of political life. Many feel that Malaysian society is still male dominated, and men are threatened by the idea of women holding senior posts. In the political sphere this is compounded by the high premium placed on political power. This makes some men even less willing to share power with women. -

Based on the ethno-symbolist approach to the study of nationalism, this thesis proposes to see the Thai nation as a result of a long process, reflecting the three-phases-model (ethnie , pre-modem and modem nation) for the potential development of a nation as outlined by Anthony Smith. -

MEGAT JUNID MADE a FULL MINISTER (Bernama 28/05/1997)
28 MAY 1997 Anwar-Cabinet MEGAT JUNID MADE A FULL MINISTER KUALA LUMPUR, May 28 (Bernama) -- Datuk Seri Megat Junid Megat Ayob was promoted as a full minister today, after over 10 years as Deputy Home Minister, most of which was spent tackling the drug and illegal immigrant problems which threaten national security. He was appointed Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister in place of Datuk Abu Hassan Omar in a minor Cabinet reshuffle announced by Acting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Anwar told a news conference at his office here that the post of Deputy Home Minister would be taken over by Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Tajol Rosli Ghazali. Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Azmi Khalid was promoted deputy minister to take over from Tajol Rosli. On the possibility of a bigger Cabinet reshuffle in future, Anwar said that was the prerogative of the Prime Minister. "It may be held from time to time depending on the need and the vacancies," said Anwar who described today's appointment as "filling a vacancy" agreed upon by the Prime Minister. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad is on two months' vacation overseas. The appointment is effective Saturday when the swearing-in will be held. The post of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister was vacated by Abu Hassan on May 2 after he was named as Selangor Menteri Besar-designate. Abu Hassan, however, has to win the Permatang state by-election tomorrow to qualify for appointment as Selangor Menteri Besar. Megat Junid, 54, was appointed Deputy Primary Industries Minister in July 1984 before moving to the Home Ministry in August 1986.
