Port Hedland AREA PLANNING STUDY Foreword Port Hedland is one of the Pilbara’s most historic and colourful towns. The townsite as we know it was established by European settlers in 1896 as a service centre for the pastoral, goldmining and pearling industries, although the area has been home to Aboriginal people for many thousands of years. In the 1960s Port Hedland experienced a major growth period, as a direct result of the emerging iron ore industry. -

Submission #1996 - Marble Bar Road (M030) Coongan Gorge Realignment Title of Proposal - Marble Bar Road (M030) Coongan Gorge Realignment Section 1 - Summary of your proposed action Provide a summary of your proposed action, including any consultations undertaken. 1.1 Project Industry Type Transport - Land 1.2 Provide a detailed description of the proposed action, including all proposed activities. Main Roads Western Australia (Main Roads) is proposing to upgrade a section of Marble Bar Road at Coongan Gorge from 318.4 to 323.5 Straight Line Kilometre (SLK). The purpose of the proposed works is to improve safety on this section of Marble Bar Road, connecting Port Hedland to Marble Bar. The proposed project works will include: - Realignment and reconstruction of approximately 5 km of Marble Bar Road between 318.4-323.5 SLK. Road formation width will vary significantly due to varying batter slope distances (at the narrowest road formation will be 10 metres (m) wide, and in isolated areas road formation will be up to 170 m wide) - Associated works including significant road batter construction, minor floodways, culverts and off road drainage - Development and use of a side track to divert traffic during stages of construction - Extraction of basecourse material from M030 material pit if excess cut material is not suitable for road base. M030 material pit is located on the Marble Bar road at 356 SLK, The Project is being referred to the Department of the Environment and Energy (DotEE) as it may result in the loss of known and potential habitat -

Published 30 September 1976.] ABSTRACT The Australian genus Menetia comprises at least five species, three of which occur in Western Australia, namely M. greyii Gray, M. maini novo and M. surda novo A lectotype is designated for M. greyii. INTRODUCTION Until recently all skinks with an immovable transparent lower eyelid were placed in Ablepharus. Fuhn (1969) broke up this polyphyletic assemblage, allotting the Australian species to nine groups, including the genus Menetia. Fuhn, and indeed all workers till now, regarded Menetia as monotypic. Greer (1974) believes that Menetia is derived from the genus Carlia. All the material used in this revision is lodged in the Western Australian Museum. Genus Menetia Gray Menetia Gray, 1845, 'Catalogue of the specimens of lizards in the collection ofthe British Museum', p.65. Type-species (by monotypy): M. greyii Gray. * Curator of Birds and Reptiles, W.A. Museum. 189 Diagnosis Very small, smooth, terrestrial skinks with lower eyelid immovable and bearing a large circular transparent disc incompletely surrounded by granules; digits 4 + 5; first supraocular long and narrow and obliqu~ly orientated. Distribution Most of Australia except the wettest and coolest regions. At least five species, three of them in Western Australia. Description Snout-vent length up to 38 mm. Tail fragile, 1.2-2.0 times as long as snout to vent. Nasals usually separated widely. No supranasals or postnasals. Prefrontals usually separated very narrowly. Frontal small, little if any larger than prefrontals. -

ENVIRONMENTAL SURVEY RESULTS 4.1 SITE DESCRIPTIONS AND HABITAT ASSESSMENT Table 4-1 Summarised habitat descriptions for each site Site (representative image) Description Burlong Pool (control site upstream of WWTP) Burlong Pool is an analogue site located 9.5 km upstream of the WWTP discharge and is of similar size and condition to the potential impact site, Katrine Pool. It is one of the 16 priority rehabilitation pools identified by the DoW (2007). Situated between farmland with highly disturbed riparian vegetation consisting of fragments of native vegetation on right bank and predominantly exotic grasses, and good coverage on the left bank. Local grazing. Highly eroded banks in places as a result of vegetation clearing. Limited shading of the channel. Submerged and emergent macrophytes present (~30% of channel). Small amount of woody debris present. Deep channel in parts and heavily vegetated with macrophytes, although noticeably less after February 2017 floods. A small culvert at the road crossing/bridge allows pool formation as the river dries. Report to the Water CoRporation of Western Australia www.hydrobiology.biz Northam WWTP: Environmental Impact Assessment ● 44 Site (representative image) Description Mortlock (Mortlock River upstream WWTP) A control site situated at the edge of Northam township on the Mortlock River, just upstream from the confluence with the Avon River, and assessed for water quality only. The Mortlock River is known to be a significant contributor to nutrient and salt concentrations in the lower Avon River. The site is situated between grazing land and a public recreation/parking area (Enright Park Corroborree Site), with a small cement weir/river walkway presenting a physical barrier to fish passage in some flows. -

Parks of the Perth Hills Avon Valley The place to… Be… National Park See… Flora and Fauna Guide Do… Landscape The sides of the Avon Valley slope steeply down to the plateau, which is about 200m above the river level. The area is undulating, with soil types including lateritic sands, loams and gravels, and is partly within the Red Swamp Brook and Brockman River catchments. The river valley forms the division between the drier northern forest, dominated by wandoo, and the southern forest, dominated by jarrah Plants The park contains wandoo woodlands and jarrah more typical of the drier northern and eastern Darling plateau. Fuschia grevillea (Grevillea bipinnatifida), roadside tea-trees, coneflowers, balgas and zamias are common elements of the understorey, which is generally sparse. The park also contains the Fringed Lily (Thysanotus anceps), a rare species found only in a few localities in the Darling Range north-east of Perth. Along the river are large flooded gums. Granite outcrops add to the diversity of the park. A variety of low shrubs and small lichens and mosses cling to the rocks. WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT WA’S PLANTS AND ANIMALS? 4.5.3 Woodie Woodie 4.5.3.1 Regional Hydrogeology the Woodie Woodie Mine Is Located in a Large Synclinal Basin Known Regionally As the Oakover Syncline
Spinifex Ridge Molybdenum Project – Public Environmental Review 4.5.3 Woodie Woodie 4.5.3.1 Regional Hydrogeology The Woodie Woodie mine is located in a large synclinal basin known regionally as the Oakover Syncline. The Oakover Syncline is a platform carbonate unit that disconformably overlies the Jeerinah Formation. The Oakover Syncline hosts the two major aquifer units namely the Pinjian Chert Breccia and the Upper Carawine Dolomite, forming a major regional scale aquifer. Regional groundwater flow in the Woodie Woodie area is thought to be from east to west across the site, away from the topographic high areas (normally coincident with outcropping Jeerinah Formation, locally referred to as the Gregory Ranges) towards the Oakover River (GRM, 2006). The river is considered to be the major natural discharge area within the region. The most common range of pre-mining groundwater levels is between 254 and 255 mAHD (as measured in Bells, Chris D and Big Mack pits). 4.5.3.2 Local Aquifer Characteristics The Pinjian Chert Breccia and the Upper Carawine Dolomite are the major aquifer units present in the vicinity of Woodie Woodie. Table 4-8 provides a summary of the reported hydraulic test results and derived aquifer parameters for the Woodie Woodie area. The data shows a highly transmissive aquifer, capable of delivering high bore yields. Pinjian Chert Breccia Aquifer The Pinjian Chert Breccia forms a major aquifer that is commonly confined by the Patterson Formation where it is present, but is otherwise unconfined. The transmissivity of the Pinjian Chert Breccia is estimated to range from 500 m²/day to 2500 m²/day (Mackie Martin PPK 1994, Golder Associates 2000 & 2003 and GRM 2004 & 2005). -

In a 10 kilometre radius from this hut the greater portion of Halls Creek gold was discovered. This area was known famously as the Brockman and even today Aboriginal people come to this place to look for gold after a big storm or heavy rain, and they nearly always pick up specs of gold.
