But these positions also are unpaid, and only those who have the means to absorb living and travel expenses have been able to take advantage of them. Jane Rummel was a coun selor and teacher in junior high and high schools in Oakland. "As a former teacher, her focus was on students, and she especiall y enjoyed coming to Hast in gs for the chol­ arship Tea fo r the awa rding of scholar­ ship ," sa id Kris Whitten, Committee Co­ Chair and former Foundation President. She is survived by a daughter, Susan Wyckoff, and a son, Peter D. Rummel.
