Sri Chiranjiv Choudhary, IFS, Vice-Chancellor (FAC) & Ex-Officio Secretary to Govt. of A.P participated Nursery Farmers Meet – A Technical Awareness and Business Development Programme organized by Indian Nurserymen Association on 28.05.2017 along with the scientists of Dr.YSRHU at Kadiyam village, East Godavari district. Anti-Terrorism Day Anti-terrorism Day (21.05.2017) was observed at Head Quarters and other Institutions of the University. On this occasion Anti- terrorism pledge was taken by the Staff to spread the message of global peace and non-violence. At HRS, Anantharajupet At CoH, Anantharajupet At KVK, Pandirimamidi Education Exposure Visits Dr. M. Raja Naik, Asst. Professor (Hort.), CoH, Anantharajupet arranged an exposure visit for 3rd year B.Sc (Hons.) Horticulture students to International Airport, Tirupati on 23.05.2017 along with the ADH, TUDA and showed different landscaping designs near highways, at airport along with vari- ous garden features, designs and adornments. Placement An interaction meeting was conducted with final year students by Sri D. Madhusudhan Reddy, Project Director, APMIP, Kadapa and Sri M. Ravindranath Reddy, Assistant Director of Horticulture, Rajampeta on 24.05.2017 at CoH, Anantharajupet. The details of existing vacancies, job schedule and work chart of Micro Irrigation Area officer (MIAO) posts, multipurpose extension officer (MPEO) posts were explained. Two students Mr. G. Ranganath and Mr. K. Chennaiah were selected as MIAOs on 25.05.2017 at the office of APMIP, Kadapa. Research Disease Surveys Dr.K.T.Venkata Ramana, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Zonal Head, Dr L. Mukunda Lakshmi, Scientist (Hort.). Dr. D.Srinivasa Reddy, Scientist (Ento.) and Sri. T. Gouri Sankar, Senior Research Fellow, CRS, Tirupati visited and imposed the treatments under NICRA project at Kodur, Kadapa on 17.05.2017 & 23.05.2017 and at R. Rachupalli, Pullampeta, Kadapa on 27.05.2017. Dr L. Mukunda Lakshmi, Scientist (Hort.) and Sri. T. Gouri Sankar, Senior Research Fellow, CRS, Tirupati conducted impact evaluation on Rejuvenation of mango as per the guidelines of MIDH at Durgasamudram, Adapareddipalli, Tirupati rural on 26.05.2017 and at Nalagampalli, Echaneri Palle, Ragimanipenta Bangarupalem in Chittoor district on 29.05.2017. Dr. K. Mamatha, Scientist (Hort.) and Dr. A. Snehalatha Rani, Scientist (Pl. Path.), HRS, Kovvuru conducted field survey for diseases of elephant foot yam in Chidipi, Dommeru, Ravuripadu and P. Savaram villages of West Godavari district on 18.05.2017. Dr.P.Rama Devi, Scientist (Pl.Path) & Head, HRS, Venkataramannagudem recorded maggots of Mycodiplosis sp. feeding on rust (Coleosporium plumeriae) uredospores of Plumeria sp. Bhagavan, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS, Kovvur conducted field diagnostic survey for post harvest losses of mango in retail and wholesale markets at Nuzvid, Agiripalli, Nunna, Kedareswarapeta from 26th-27th May, 2017. Proposals were submitted for release of new betelvine variety SWARNA KAPOORI from AICRP on MAP and Betelvine, Venkataraman- nagudem. Nutritional survey in mango conducted by Smt.T.Nagalakshmi, Scientist (Pl. Path.) and Dr. Y. Sharat Kumar Reddy, Scientist (Pl.Physiology), HRS, Anantharajupet on 18.05.2017 in different age groups of mango gardens and collected Baneshan variety fruits from Settigunta, Obulavaripalli, Chitvel and Kodur mandals to carry out the orchard efficiency analysis. It was observed that PRSV severity in papaya was reduced due to seasonal high temperatures (> 40°C). Stem end rot disease (10-15%) and anthracnose (10-12% ) were recorded in Banglora and Neelum varieties of mango. Extension Training Programmes On 20.05.17, Valedictory session of six days training programme on “Skills of maintaining bee hives and extraction of honey” was held at KVK, Pandirimamidi. Sri A.S.Dinesh Kumar, IAS, Project Officer, ITDA, Rampachodavaram along with Dr. R.V.S.K. Reddy, Director of Extension issued certificates and feedback regarding the training was taken from trainees. Dr. M. Raja Naik, Asst. Professor (Hort.), CoH, Anantharajupet attended training programme on Chrysanthemum cultivation as resource person on 25.05.2017 at Regional Horticultural Training Institute organized by Dept. of Horticulture, Kadapa. Sri P. Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS & AC) and Sri. K.C.Bhanumurthy, Scientist (Hort.), KVK, Pandirimamidi conducted off-campus training programme on Soil sampling at Tamarapalli village of Rampachoda- varam mandal on 31.05.2017. Conducted technical sessions on im- portance of soil sample collection and soil testing followed by method demonstration on composite soil sample and location specific soil sample collection based on topography. One day training programme on “Processing and preservation of Jack fruit” at KVK, V.R.Gudem was conducted on 31.05.2017 by Dr. E. Karuna Sree, Sr. Scientist & Head, Dr. K. Venkata subbaiah, Scientist (Hort.). In this programme fifteen anganwadi workers from Nallajerla CDPO sector and women from Dandagarra village of Tadepalligudem mandal participated and learned various preservation and value addition techniques of fruits and vegetables. Volume-III, Issue – 10 Dr.YSRHU e-Newsletter 16th —31st May, 2017 3 KVK, Pandirimamidi conducted two three days training programme on “Production and use of organic manures and bio-fertilizers” sponsored by RKVY from 22.05.2017 to 24.05.2017 and 25.05.2017 to 27.05.2017 for farmers from Marrivada, Thallapalem, Pothukonda, Y.Ramavaram, Mulleru, Thungamadugulu, Gurugummi, Velagala- palem villages and D.N. Palem and Pamugandi villages respectively. Conducted technical sessions on Importance and practical applications of Organic manures & Biofertilizers in Agriculture/Horticulture and arranged exposure visits to green manure crops, Azolla production unit, Nadep composting pits and Vermicomposting unit at Gokavaram. Method Demonstrations A demonstration on banana mulcher was conducted by M/s.Jai Kisan Engineering, Tadepalligudem at Horticultural Research Station, Kovvur in the presence of Dr. B.V.K. Bhagawan, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS, Kovvur on 17.05.2017. On 23.05.2017, demonstration was conducted by Dr. K. Venkata Subbaiah, Scientist (Hort.), KVK, Venkataramannagudem on ripening of mango by using low cost ripening technique as On Farm Trial (OFT) in Kollaigudem and Ravigudem. Diagnostic Visits Dr.R.V.S.K. Reddy, Director of Extension along with scientists of KVK, Venkataramannagudem visited vegetable fields, Apiary units and fish ponds and interacted with the farmers to review the TSP activities on 30.05.2017. Also explained about the management practices in summer vegetables to the farmers of Mettugudem, Raavigudem, Kollaiahgudem, Seethappagudem, Erraiahgudem villages. Sri. P. Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS&AC) and Sri K.C. Bhanumurthy , Scientist (Hort.) visited brinjal field (Var. Arka Anand) at B.V. Kota village of Rampachodavaram mandal on 22.05.2017. The crop was at flowering and fruiting stage and observed shoot & fruit borer infestation. Suggested the measures to be taken up to manage the pest. Dr.K.T.Venkata Ramana, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Zonal Head, Dr L. Mukunda Lakshmi, Scientist (Hort.) and Dr. D.Srinivasa Reddy, Scientist (Ento.), CRS, Tirupati surveyed sweet orange gardens in Pullampeta division, Kadapa on 23.05.2017and identified dry root rot disease and suggested remedial measures. D. Thirupal, Research Associate (Hort.), HRS, Kovvur conducted survey for post harvest losses of mango in Tuni, Shankavaram and Thondangi mandals of East Godavari district from 24th – 29th May, 2017. Volume-III, Issue – 10 Dr.YSRHU e-Newsletter 16th —31st May, 2017 4 Sri G.ShaliRaju, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Venkataramannagudem attended diagnostic field visit to vegetable fields viz. ridge gourd, ivy gourd, bitter gourd and okra at Seetappagudem village of buttaigudem mandal on 16.05.2017. Observed infestation of sucking pests and demonstrated installation of yellow and blue sticky traps @ 15/ha and foliar applica- tion of systemic insecticide Dimethoate @ 2ml./l and Imidachloprid @ 0.3ml/l. Distributed mulch sheets for cultivation of brinjal under ICAR – TSP project entitled “Introduction of Improved vegetable cultivation in tribal areas”. Dr. E. Karunasree, Sr.Scientist & Head, Dr.T.Vijaya nirmala, Scientist (Veterinary Science) and Dr.A.Devivaraprasad Reddy, Scientist (Fishery Science), KVK, Venkataramannagudem interacted with the tribal farmers who are rearing Aseel and Guinea fowl birds which were distributed under tribal sub plan in Chegondapalli and Sarugudu villages of Polavaram mandal. Collected the feedback about survival, feeding, health and brooding management aspects on 20.05.2017. On the same day, conducted field visit to fodder sorghum field in Gavaravaram, Koyyalagudem mandal. Sri. G.ShaliRaju Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Venkataramannagudem visited apiary units at Katkuru and Kacharam village, Velerupadu mandal under ICAR-TSP project entitled “Introduction of Apiary
