Clearly this is a strategy that relies on both school and home and any encouragement that you can give your child to be active and healthy is fantastic. The annual County Championships took place on a gloomy afternoon at a Stafford Grammar School with our leading runners in attendance. All athletes knew that a top 10 finish was the main objective to be assured a place in the district team and as always, the competition was full of strong runners. Our Year 7 girls went out first and Brewood had their hopes riding on Angel Wood and Eliza Rae Edwards; Angel had a disastrous start when she was tripped in the sprint start and had to compose herself and come from the back of the pack. Angel showed all her grit and determination as well as her considerable talent to finish in a fantastic 2nd place!! and Eliza Rae also ran superbly to come home 7th with both girls easily qualifying for the district squad! Year 7 boys were in the largest field of runners and although we didn’t have any runners finishing in the top 10, we had some encouraging performances for future races. The year 8 runners were bound to find life difficult as they were running in the year 8/9 category. Freya Hickman, who ran for the district team last year, had no problems running against girls a year older and finished in an outstanding 3rd place! Her teammate Isabelle Vickers also ran very well and will join Freya in the district squad being the 8th girl home. P AGE 10 A UTUMN N EWSLETTER 2 0 1 7 V OLUME 7 , I SSUE 1 P AGE 3
