1. INTRODUCTION

Coahuila de Zaragoza is the third of the country's largest State, is located in the northeast of and share a 512 kilometer border with the U.S. State of Texas. In Mexico, it is bordered by the States of Chihuahua, , Zacatecas, San Luis Potosí and Nuevo León.

Coahuila in numbers:

Represents 7.73% of the surface of the country. It has a population of 2'954, 915 inhabitants, 2.5% of the total in the country, the distribution is 90% urban and 10% rural. Schooling that is 9.9 (almost year of upper secondary education); the national average is 9.2 of schooling. Speakers of an indigenous language of 3 years and older, are 2 per 1000 people, the national level is 70 per 1000 people. The sector of activity which contributes most to State GDP are manufacturing industries, including the production of machinery and equipment. Finally, brings the 3.4% to the national GDP.

Coahuila boasts of 38 municipalities, which are grouped into five different regions due to their economic characteristics and geographical location.

The Laguna Region is made up of the municipalities of Francisco I. Madero, Matamoros, San Pedro, Torreón, Viesca. Besides being one of the regions privileged in the agricultural sector, characterized by large manufacturing companies, textile, auto parts, metal - mechanics and development of solar energy. This document provides general information about the region: geographic location, main economic activities, infrastructure, basic services, education, quality of life and tourism.

2. GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION La Región Laguna del estado, está ubicada en el suroeste de la entidad y cuenta con una extensión territorial de 22,031.2 Km2 y una población de 974,289* habitantes. The Laguna Region of the State, is located in the South-West of the entity and has a land area of 22,031.2 Km2 and a population of 974,289 * inhabitants.

4. TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE 4.1 Airports

The Laguna Region has the International Airport "Francisco Sarabia", located on the road Torreón - San Pedro, which offers daily flights to the cities of Tijuana, Juarez, Guadalajara city, city of Mexico, Queretaro and Cancun; In addition to an international flight to Dallas, Tx. The airlines operating these flights are: Aeromexico, Volaris, Interjet, Vivaerobus, American and TAR.

In addition, this air terminal has airport services: landing, parking, overnight, FBO, and fuel; complementary services such as: ramp and traffic; and business services: shops and restaurants.

4.2 Highways

 40 Federal Highway: it communicates with Mazatlán, Sin., Durango and Gómez Palacio, Dgo., Saltillo, Coah., Monterrey, N.L., Reynosa and Matamoros, Tamps.

 49 Federal Highway: communicates with Chihuahua, Chih. and Zacatecas, Zac.

 30 Federal Highway: communicates with Monclova, Coah.

In addition there are channels of communication between the municipalities of the Region.

4.3 Railroad

The Laguna Region comprises railway station in the municipalities of Francisco I. Madero, San Pedro, Torreón, Viesca; which are connected to the national railway network, thus having access to borders, ports and major cities of the country. In this region the service is provided by Ferromex (Ferrocarril Mexicano) and line Coahuila Durango (LCD) private enterprises.

Viesca name comes from the surname of the first Governor elected constitutionally Don José María Viesca and political important mountains of the era of independence, first Governor of the State of Coahuila and Texas. Its foundation dates from the 25 July 1731.

The natural, cultural and historical tangible and intangible heritage of this magical town, is represented in its natural landscapes, history, culture, customs and traditions, vernacular architecture, and the most outstanding, the human quality of its people, which is kind, courteous, honest, helpful, hardworking and with a great respect for preserving and disseminating his great legacy In 2012, after the management of the magical village Committee, State, and municipal authorities as well as the evaluation of the Federal Ministry of tourism, Viesca received the name of Magical Town. This has led to the tourist development of the municipality, as well as improvement in the quality of life of the inhabitants.
