The views expressed herein are the CCEA’s only and do not reflect those of Aetna or New England Sports and Entertainment. Hartford Civic Center Redevelopment II Executive Summary Opened in 1975, the Hartford Civic Center and Coliseum is one of the oldest venues in the southern New England area.1 At its peak circa 1988, the Center was home to an NHL franchise, the Hartford Whalers and hosted 318 events per year.2 Today, activity at the Center has declined. Its amenities are economically obsolete and its mechanical systems are aging. This report evaluates a plan to modernize and revitalize the Center and bring new entertainment options to the Hartford area. The goal would be to once more make it a hub of entertainment and economic activity in Hartford. The plans include a retrofit of the current structure, continuation of tenant events, increased numbers of other events, new tenants, a new atrium space with sport and other retail stores, a new food court, a new restaurant and sports bar, a new broadcast studio at street level, and a new IMAX theater. -

The CLI is an evaluated inventory of all landscapes having historical significance that are listed on or eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places, or are otherwise managed as cultural resources through a public planning process and in which the NPS has or plans to acquire any legal interest. The CLI identifies and documents each landscape’s location, size, physical development, condition, landscape characteristics, character-defining features, as well as other valuable information useful to park management. The Hurricanes have agreed to extend their affiliation with the River Rats through the 2008-2009 season, but the Avalanche will begin a new affiliation with Cleveland next season. NAMING RIGHTS: Last year the county signed a $3.5 M 10-year naming-rights contract with the Times Union which will expire in 2016. The newspaper agreed to pay $350,000 a year, as well as provide advertising and other promotional benefits. The building has been upgraded with improved locker rooms, exercise rooms, and skyboxes while the team pays minimal rent and enjoys a share of advertising, concession, and parking revenues. Furthermore, the county is seeking a private management group to run the arena. Two firms solicited proposals last year, Philadelphia-based SMG and the B-Sens, but the county legislature defeated a proposal that would have either running the facilities. -

However, public money is in short supply as the SEA is already financing two stadiums and a convention center at a cost of $700 million in taxpayer funding. ‘MR. HOCKEY: THE GORDIE HOWE STORY’ PRODUCTION BIOS STEPHEN HEGYES (Executive Producer) - Stephen Hegyes, producer and co-founder of Brightlight Pictures, has established an impressive career track record in his 20 years in the feature film and television industry, most recently becoming an industry leader in international co-productions. After beginning his producing career with breakout hit "Double Happiness," directed by Mina Shum and starring Sandra Oh, he later produced international box office success "White Noise" starring Michael Keaton, which was released by Universal. His most recent credits include "Gunless," a comedy western starring Paul Gross and co-produced with Rhombus Media, and "Fifty Dead Men Walking," a UK/Canadian co-production starring Ben Kingsley, Jim Sturgess, Kevin Zegers and Rose McGowan. Beyond co-producing and managing Brightlight Pictures, Hegyes is also the long-term chair of British Columbia's Feature Film Committee, and has been nominated by Variety Magazine as "One of 50 to Watch."
