Racing Nsw Annual Report Mission Statement RACING NSW ANNUAL REPORT MISSION STATEMENT “TO ESTABLISH A DYNAMIC NSW THOROUGHBRED INDUSTRY WHICH ADVANCES PARTICIPATION, ENSURES INTEGRITY AND DELIVERS QUALITY RACING AT ALL LEVELS.” VISION OBJECTIVES • Provide a committed, user-friendly, professional and cost effective administration which uses best business CONTENTS practice in serving all aspects of the NSW Thoroughbred Racing Industry. • Provide Leadership and Strategic Direction to ensure the Deputy Chairman’s Report 2 NSW Thoroughbred Racing Industry achieves revenue growth, profitability and greater returns to Owners and Chief Executive’s Report 3 Industry Participants. • Provide a Racing Product which appeals to all Laboratory 7 demographics, and takes all actions necessary to guarantee integrity and confidence in the sport. Integrity 8 • Maximise betting turnover on NSW Thoroughbred meetings by accommodating punters’ needs and Veterinary Services 10 desires, and work with Tabcorp to promote new Racing & Commerical 12 wagering products, which reflect changes in demand. Mr Gary Pemberton AC resigned as Chairman of Racing NSW, T effective from 2 July 2008. Gary’s leadership and experience were of enormous value to the NSW Thoroughbred Racing Y Industry during his term as Chairman. When you bear this in mind it is only to be expected that there is keen interest, from both within the industry and more generally, in records relating to the health and performance of the Australian thoroughbred racing industry. Our intention in producing the Fact Book is to meet this demand by assembling a range of useful facts and figures as a handy guide to any person seeking information on major aspects of the industry.

Masulis§ University of New South Wales December 11, 2019 Abstract We examine whether unemployment insurance (UI) mitigates shareholder-employee conflicts of interest and improves takeover market efficiency. Exploiting within state changes in UI benefits, we find that increased target state UI benefits raise acquisition likelihoods, expected deal synergies, and gains to both acquirer and target shareholders. UI effects on acquisition likelihood are stronger in highly unionized industries, in firms with concentrated employee ownership, and in firms with employee friendly boards. The passage of directors’ duties laws increases the UI effect on acquisition likelihood. Lastly, increased acquirer state UI benefits raise acquirer returns and likelihood of acquirers making within-industry acquisitions.
