This pageant was created to honor the married women in the state of Mississippi who are good role models for others. This pageant showcases married women without a swimsuit competition. This is a pageant that any married woman in the state can enter. In 2002, the Teen and Miss divisions were added to the pageant. These divisions consist of three competitions: interview, casual wear and evening gown. There is no talent or swimsuit competition. Again, any contes- tant will have an equal chance to win the state title. For many years, this system has been one of the most prestigious and most respected pageants in the state of Mississippi. Scholarship money is offered to each winner and a Carribean Cruise was added to the prize package. From our very beginning with six married contestants to this year’s pageant with approx.145 contestants, our goal has always been to crown state winners that will represent the Magnolia State with pride and dignity. In 2008 our Wife of the Year title had changed to the Mrs. Magnolia State title. For the first time in 2008, a Junior Miss Magnolia State division was added for girls ages 12-14. The Miss Magnolia State Pageant continues to thrive due to the fairness or this organization, the fun and thrills involved and of course because of the hospitable, warm, beautiful and caring contestants we attract each year. The 2000 State Pageant . . . Pageant begins with just six contestants in the Mrs. division and is called Mrs. Mississippi Wife of the Year. Cheryl Abernathy is crowned the first winner. 20022002
The 2001 State Pageant . . . Pageant crowns second winner with seven contestants. Merle Edridge is crowned.
The 2002 State Pageant . . . Pageant adds Teen and Miss divisions and has 42 contestants. Tammie McCue, Rebecca Moulder and Deborah Sharpless are crowned the state winners.
The 2003 State Pageant . . . Pageant moves to Vicksburg City Audiorium and explodes to 95 contestants. Lisa Morris, Catherine Werne and Stacy Hull are crowned.
The 2004 State Pageant . . . Pageant has tremendous turnout with 105 contestants. State rule is incorporated that state queens can not com- pete in any other state pageants during their reign. Edith Beeson wins the Mrs division at age 65. Stacey Stokley is crowned the Miss winner and Kristen Hobgood wins Teen. The teen division has a record number of 60 2010 State Pageant . . . 5 A Message From Chris Shannon — Just Another Amazing Year!!!! I know I say it every year, but It seems as though the older I get, the years go by even faster. I can’t believe another whole year has gone by already. Our pageant is one of the best systems in the state of Mississippi. I put it in the top three along with Miss Mississippi and Miss Mississippi USA/Teen USA . It’s now the largest pageant of it’s kind in the state of Mississippi! When I created this pageant 15 years ago, I wanted a fair and fun pageant where ladies throughout the Magnolia State would all have an equal chance to win a state title. I’m so excited it has been so well received and successful! Thank you to everyone that has volunteered helping me make this pageant so successful. A big thank you to Ray Trinanes for all his hard work. Thanks to Jessica Mathias for helping keep the show running smoothly and calming me down at times when I’m about to lose it. Thanks to my mom, dad and nephew Hunter, Betty Davis, Jacki MacRaney, Rose Mary Mathias, Olivia McRaney, Stepanie Case and Edith Beeson for being the best staff ever. You guys have been awesome! Thank you to Artis Williams for taking care of everything we need at the City Auditorium. You make me breathe easier, knowing you are around. To my four state queens this year, it has been so much fun getting to know you trhoughout the year and I had so much fun performing “Fly Me to the Moon” with you all at the Little Miss Magnolia State Pageant this summer. To Ragan Middleton: I have had so much fun getting to know you and your mom this year. I know I worked your poor mom to death judging prelims! I love, love, love how I can always count on you to be our “pageant security”! (Move it on, there’s nothing to see here LOL). I know you are going to have a bright future and I think the pageant world will still see you as well. I have a feeling you are going to end up on some more state pageant stages pretty soon. I love you both! To Carmen Shumaker: I have enjoyed getting to know you and your mom this year. You guys have been awe-
some. Just like you said, I do believe we all became a family this year and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. My funniest memory of you is when you changed your hair and came to the Christ- mas party without your crown and banner and no one knew who you were! That was hilarious! I know you said you have concluded your pageant career, but I have a feeling we’ll see you once again on a big stage. Love you and your mom and so thankful I had a year to become friends.... well family, with you guys! To Jessica Jackson: I was so excited when they called your name as the new Miss Magnolia State last year. You won on your thrid attempt and I love it when a girl is determined and doesn’t give up on a dream. You and your mom have been fabulous this year! I have loved how people always brag about how beautiful you are to me. You are just so sweet and I just feel so honored we got you as our state winner finally for a
6 whole year. I sure wish I could bend your arm to make you do Miss Mississippi USA once in the future but I’m guessing we’re going to hear wedding bells pretty soon instead. Love you! To Robyn Mastry: We’ve had so many fun times and talks and I’m so glad we got a year together! I know your schedule has been crazy and nuts and you are defi- nitely appreciated to have balanced your responsibilities as Mrs. Magnolia State, a wife, a mother and a career woman. I’m so glad to say I had a part in making you get bitten by the “pageant bug”. I hope we see the Mrs. Mississippi America crown on your head next year. I’ve had so much fun with you and thank you to Todd, Taylor and Tyler for sharing you with us for a whole year. To the contestants: Now in a pageant, we must understand that not everyone will go home with the state crown. Actually only four ladies will tonight. BUT . . . EVERYONE can go home with a positive experience and fun memories. If you do not make the semifinals, don’t get depressed. Pageants are not something to get depressed about. Pageants are about having fun and working to be your best self. Just because the judges do not select you one day, does not mean that the very next day different judges will have the same opinion. I’ve been doing this so long, I’ve seen girls come in last one day and the very next day win everything. When you walk across the stage to introduce yourself and your friends and family start cheering for you, take a moment to take it all in and enjoy it. Think about how lucky you are to be on that stage and representing your area of the state and you have people smiling and clapping for you who love you and are proud of you. That is what the pageant is all about. Most everyone knows my dream since I was a kid is to be called out on a contestant on the Price is Right game show. It might be a silly dream to most people, but that’s MY dream. I’ve been to 11 tapings throughout my life and still haven’t been called out. But I’ll keep trying . . . because it’s my dream. Dreams will never come true if you don’t go for them! Just like in this pageant, if this is your dream, just keep trying and going for it. I haven’t been called out on the Price is Right (YET) but wow, I sure have had fun trying. God gives us what we need when we need it. Al- though I didn’t get called out on the Price is Right, I was called out on Let’s Make a Deal where I had the chance to win a new car but lost. Then in August of 2011, Ray and I were selected out of 100’s of teams to participate in HGTV’s Endless Yard Sale Competition. We won the grand prize!!! The journey is just as important as reaching the finish line. Enjoy yourselves this weekend and four of you will be called to “Come On Down” to receive the crown! Personally, I wish EACH of you the best of luck tonight. My wish also is that you have fun regardless of the out- come. I wish you all could win and in a way, you will. You had the courage to participate. So many women can not say that. Enjoy this weekend with your family and have fun. I am so proud of you for participating and if you don’t win, let’s do it together next year. I love each and every one of you guys!!!!!

My year as Junior Miss Magnolia State has been something I will truly never forget. Coming into this, I never imagined I would become so attached and emotionally involved with the people I have shared this journey with. When my reign began it seemed to start slow, but I was just enjoying every minute of it. Before I knew it, everything was flying by so fast and it was time for our cruise. This is the main thing that I will always remember the most. All four of us Queens really bonded and became inseparable. The four of us, Chris and Ray, and even our moms and families came together like one huge family. Those four days are memories that I will cherish forever. The next thing was the Little Miss and Mr. Magnolia State Pageant which was in July. Having the honor of taking pictures and signing autographs for all of the little girls and boys was also very memorable. Seeing the smiles on their faces is what made all of the hours of walking in heels and getting hand cramps all worth-while. Now that that we are here for the State Pageant again, I just want to wish all the girls competing the best of luck. The best advice I can give you is to just be yourself and most importantly have fun! Lastly, I want to give a big thank you to everyone that has made this year possible. I want to thank Chris and Ray for honestly being the best pageant directors anyone could ever ask for. I want to thank Rebecca Mathis for doing my hair and make-up last year and this year, and for being so supportive and encouraging to me last year when I really knew nothing about what I was doing. I also want to thank my Dad for putting up with all the dresses and outfits and for financially supporting me. A huge THANK YOU goes out to my sister, Shelley, for putting me in pageants in the first place. Shelley, if it wasn’t for you I definitely would not be here today! Finally, I want to thank my biggest fan, my Mom. Mom, you always support me no matter what I want to do, and I know I will always be a winner in your eyes. 13 AnnualCan Lodive of JohnsoPageantry Awardn The pageant world lost a member of it’s family, Candy Johnson of Tchula, MS. She had an enormous love of pageantry and was always a cheerleader for the industry. Candi was our second runner up to Mrs. Mississippi Wife of the Year in 2007 and first runner up in 2005. She was a former Mrs. Mississippi United States and Mrs. Southern Magnolia National Queen. We created the Candi Johnson Love of Pageantry Award that will be presented to a Junior, Teen, Miss and Mrs. contestant who has a sincere love of pageantry. Candi will never be forgotten.

November 24, 2013. For my sister queens and I this has become one of our most dreaded days. Today we must give up what we have fallen so heavily in love with. The Magnolia State Pageant is one of the best blessings that have ever been bestowed upon me. Through out this year, I have experienced such joy and excitement, as I grew closer to my Magnolia State family. I know that this was a once in a lifetime experience and that is why I am extremely thankful. First, I want no one to leave here today not knowing why I won this title a year ago. My success is only through the grace of God. I only pray that I have glorified Him with my reign. Chris and Ray. You two are the most hardworking guys I know, and let me be the one to tell you that your hard work has honestly paid off. I cannot imagine a better year. Because of your never-ending support and encouragement, I had the time of my life and became more involved in a pageant system than I have ever been before. I give you two the credit for teaching me that I can actually make a difference through pageantry. Thank you a hundred times over and I love you both. To my sister queens. This is where the crying truly begins. Each and every one of you seriously means the world to me! You have given me more than you will ever realize. Because of your sincere love and care, I found that true friends eventually become your family. Ragan, Jessica, and Robyn, I love you to the moon and back. Dad. I will forever be your little girl. You are my hero and my biggest fan. Through childhood, awkward middle school, and eventually my high school, you were always pushing me to become who I am today, and standing on this stage, I feel as if I have made you proud, which is the best feeling in the world. I accredit you with letting me know that I am beautiful in many many ways. I love you more than you know. Bubby. You are truly the best brother I could ever have. If it weren’t for you I truly wouldn’t be here today. Yes, you pick on me, but I know that it is all out of love. I have always known that you will support me 110% and for that I am proud to be called your sister. I love you big time, Bubby. Mom. Wow. We did it momma!! Can you believe we have made it this far? You are my role model and the best one I could have. You love me unconditionally and support me without ceasing. I honestly believe I would have never gotten on a stage to begin with if it were not for you. So yes ma’am, this is my saying you were right! You have put just as much effort into this as I have, which is why you should be the one standing up here right now. I love you boockudles. JD. I am unbelievably thankful for the support you have given me this year. I don’t know one other guy that would drive me two hours so I would not be alone at an appearance. You have given me a better relationship than I deserve, and you have also become the best friend I can have. I love you to the ends of the earth. To everyone I have come into contact with this year, I thank you all. Please know that you are also a part of my growth this year. I love you all. Well this is it. This is the end but also the start to something beautiful. I know that I will leave today a different person than I was a year ago. Throughout this year I have accumulated a second family. Wow, it is hard to believe my year as Miss Magnolia State has so quickly come to an end. In my first year to compete, I was announced as second alternate. As one of the youngest in my division, I was ecstatic with my placing. It gave a new meaning to pageants and a new determination to me. I returned the next year and stood hand in hand in the top two; as Jessica announced me as first runner up, my first thought was that I had accomplished yet another goal. I had placed higher than before, and my fire of determination grew even more. I returned my third year with the mindset that- no matter what happened- I would make my parents, myself, and my Lord proud. This time last year I achieved my goal, when I won the title of Miss Magnolia State 2013. What a reign it has been! In the past year, I made friendships that turned to family, traveled all over my home state, crossed a cruise to Cozumel, Mexico, off my bucket list, and grew as an individual. I have learned that there is much more to this title than just taking home a crown. Truly, this has been one year I will never forget. To Robyn, Carmen, and Ragan: it has been such an amazing blessing sharing my reign with you all. I could not have chosen better pageant sisters, and I wish you all the best. I know we’ll keep in touch. You girls are my family, and I love you all dearly! To Chris and Ray: you two are the cornerstones to this foundation. Thank you for providing all the help, for spoiling us beyond means, and for giving me all the wonderful memories during my three years of competing in your pageant system. I am grateful for the two of you and truly look up to you both! I would like to say a special thank you to Susan’s Shoppe of Brookhaven for keeping my formal attire fabulous; you are always the biggest help! To Trendy Threads of Crystal Springs: thank you for keeping my everyday attire as trendy and cute as you possibly could! I have saved the best thank you for last, and I want to give that special “thank you” to my parents. To my dad: You have shared so much wisdom and knowledge with me! Not many girls can successfully change a car tire, for that I am grateful of you. Thank you for being at every pageant I have ever competed in. Also, thank you for not giving me too much of a hassle with how much of your money I have spent on pageants. You are a main reason I’m standing on this stage tonight. Mom, I should write a book of “thank you” letters to you! In my twelve years of pageantry, I can honestly say you have buckled every pair of heels, zipped every zipper, settled all my hair catastrophes, fixed my lipstick, and even put lotion on my legs a time or two. For every behind-the- scenes job, you’ve always been there. You have traveled the state with me to every appearance and have even been my personal photographer. You are my angel, I am so honored to call you my mom! God has blessed me with two amazing influences, and I am able to call them my parents! I love you Mom and Dad, thank you both again! To my successor: Make your year one to be remembered: be humble, yet be bold. This year will fly past so quickly, so make sure you soak it all In. Prepare yourself for a million pictures, numerous video sessions with Chris, and amazing moments you will remember for a lifetime. Be deserving of this title, but remember to keep God first in all that you do. I hope God blesses you with an amazing, adventurous journey like the one He has given to me. Being Mrs. Magnolia State has been a wonderful experience and such a highlight to this year for me! I’ve absolutely enjoyed representing all of the amazing married women in the great state of Mississippi. While I was shocked that my name was called to hold this title, it showed me that you’re never too “anything” (old, young, married, single, tomboyish etc…) to do WHATEVER your heart desires! This was only the second pageant I’d ever done & the first one I did was this same pageant in 2010. My daughter, Taylor, also decided to do this pageant with me last year in the Jr. Miss Division, so needless to say I was the “overwhelmed underdog”. I will never forget the look on Taylor’s face when the curtains closed after winning Mrs. Magnolia State as she ran to me and said “Congratulations mom; I’m so proud of you”! Taylor, I love you with all of my heart, you continue to amaze me every day and I couldn’t be more proud of the person you are and the person you’ll be in the future. Any yes, you’re stuck with a mom that will brag on you every chance I get, even when answering my on stage question! You’re brilliant and gorgeous on the inside and out and I’m grateful that you’re my gift from God. I love you and thank you for being my inspiration; I’m honored to be your mom! Thank you to my most amazing husband, Todd Mastry! We’ve had our ups and downs throughout the years, but I love how we enjoy and celebrate our ups together and how our downs have only made us grow stronger together. You’re a great partner and father to our children and I’m so glad God chose you for me. Thank you for all of your support and sacrifices, especially during pageant weekend (and having faith in your team at the Landers Center that weekend while you were supporting your girls), because there’s no way I could’ve been crowned Mrs. Magnolia State or gotten everything done with Taylor and me without your help. Also, thank you so much for sneaking us in breakfast Sat morning when we were starving and didn’t have enough time to eat before interviews…don’t tell Mr. Chris or Mr. Ray LOL. I love you “Mr. Wonderful” and I’m so honored to have you by my side. Thank you to my handsome and brilliant son, Tyler. You and your daddy were the only two family members that Taylor and I had in the audience last year and I could hear y’all yelling like a huge crowd for us. You inspire me every day to not only be a better mom, but to be a better person with your caring heart paired with your witty comments. I love the way you think, how you’re becoming your own person and I treasure our cuddle time together. I’m so grateful that you’re my gift from God and I’m honored to be your mom! To my mom; I know you couldn’t make it, but I completely understand. I love you & I thank you for all that you’ve taught me. We’ve been through some crazy & “interesting” times, but I’m glad that we’re a team. Thank you for taking my call backstage when I really thought I bombed my onstage question and praying with me that everyone understood what I was trying to say. While I’ll always be your only child; I’m no longer your “#1 and only”, because my family is your family, so you’ve got lots more family than you ever expected. We love you and we’re praying for you every day! To my God and Savior, Jesus Christ I want to say Thank You, because without either of you I’d be nothing. I’m grateful that you’re both in my life, in my heart and for all of the amazing blessings that you continue to pour over my family and me! Thank you for loving me, at my best and at my worst. To Ragan, Carmen and Jessica, y’all are the best “Lil Pageant Sisters” ever! It’s been a wonderful experience getting to know y’all & your families. I had a blast on the cruise with everyone and thoroughly enjoyed being at Little Miss Magnolia State with y’all. I only wish I lived closer to y’all. Thank you to Gail & Janice for being my “adoptive aunts”, even though I’m just “a little bit” older than Ragan & Carmen, I know how young y’all are too & the ages just don’t add up, so we’re good with aunts! LOL To Ray and Chris, thank you so much for this amazing opportunity and experience! I know my plate is forever full and my schedule isn’t the easiest to put up with (it drives me crazy sometimes, so I can only imagine how it makes other people feel haha), but y’all have been super supportive and understanding. I LOVE everything that your pageant stands for and represents and I hope I’ve done y’all proud. Y’all always have a place to stay in the north, Northern MS that is. PS Ray, when is your pool party for Ragan, Carmen, Jessica and me?? hahaha To the Mrs. Contestants that I’ve competed with and the ones that I haven’t; you’re ALL AWESOME!! I’ve made some friendships that will last a lifetime and for that I’m honored. We’ve been there for each other even when we can’t physically be there, so thank you! During the pageant y’all cheered for my daughter, celebrated with me backstage when she made top 15 and when she didn’t win y’all told me “don’t you cry and mess up your makeup; that’s not going to make Taylor very happy that her mom looks a mess on stage”! I hope I’ve done y’all proud too! And to the soon to be crowned Mrs. Magnolia State, while it’s never easy to give up a title…so I’ve been told LOL; I can’t wait to meet you and I hope you nothing but success and wonderful experiences during your reigning year!
