The university’s Recording Arts program hosted online discussions with grads like Jordan “DJ Swivel” Young (BTS, Beyoncé, Chainsmokers) and Sebastian Krys (Elvis Costello, Alejandro Sanz). The Sportscasting degree program has hosted dozens of Q&A sessions featuring ESPN anchors, radio hosts, media business owners, and comedians. The Film program is also connecting current students with notable graduates, including HBO’s Senior Sage Steele Howie D Vice President of Studio & Production Services Stephen Beres and TV and ESPN SportsCenter Anchor Backstreet Boys fi lm executive Deborah Liebling (PEN15, South Park). Projects Full Sail students never stop creating, and they continued to stretch their wings with projects from multiple degree programs. In the Digital Cinematography degree program’s “Social Distancing Short Film Contest,” students created short fi lms using only a smartphone or iPad for shooting and editing. Quarantine Marketing Battle Music Business, Public Relations, and Graphic Design students partnered with students from universities across the country to build and present marketing plans to music industry professionals from Warner Records, The Shalizi Group, Dan Patrick Ken Jeong and Primary Wave Group. Actor & Comedian Sportscaster 4 STUDENT COMMUNITY Full Sail prides itself on giving students virtual experiences worth celebrating. Incoming students learn about Full Sail’s digital platforms during Virtual Orientation, while graduating students enjoy campus-wide and department-specifi c ceremonies to commemorate their achievements. Full Sail’s new scholarships and grading options are helping incoming students get in the door and current students succeed. The Hardship Assistance and Technology Assistance Scholarships help campus and online students off set COVID-19 related costs, while the university’s electable Pass/Fail grading option allows students to earn course credits without adding GPA stress to the mix. The Career Development Department has also facilitated dozens of virtual seminars. Each week, graduates and industry professionals join current students via Zoom to share job search tips, give portfolio critiques, and answer general questions. LABS REOPENING Since Full Sail’s campus closed in March, we’ve been working on plans for how to reopen in a way that protects our students and educators. That plan has included many changes to our cleaning and sanitation processes, new measures like social distancing, temperature checks, and mask requirements, and changes to lab scheduling to reduce the number of people on campus at a time. These changes allowed us to safely welcome a limited number of senior students back to campus starting in July. Based on that experience, starting in October, we re-opened the campus further, inviting campus students back for labs and other small on-campus experiences, even as we continue to assess the situation and make any necessary updates or adjustments based on local, state, and federal guidance. And for now, all lectures are planned to remain online. COMMUNITY Full Sail is using its cutting-edge technology and resources to provide teachers who need support transitioning to online learning. assistance beyond the university grounds. Women make up the majority of nominees in the four biggest categories, including Song of the Year and Best New Artist. Five of the eight nominees for Album of the Year are women. That’s a big turnaround from the past: From 2013 to 2018, a staggering 91% of Grammy nominees were men. Former Grammy chief Deborah Dugan, who filed a lawsuit against the Recording Academy, is interviewed Thursday on “Good Morning America.” Behind the scenes, however, the game is still rigged in favor of the powerful and well- compensated men who actually run the show, according to explosive allegations from Deborah Dugan. She was put on leave last week from her role as CEO of the Recording Academy, the nonprofit in charge of the Grammys, a little more than a week before the award show. Dugan was the organization’s first female leader. She told HuffPost that she was forced out by the academy’s male board members and powerful lawyers after trying to make significant changes at the academy and speaking up about sexual harassment at the organization.

Abstract approved:_____________________________________________________ Ryann Reynolds-McIlnay The rise of digital streaming has largely impacted the way the average listener consumes music. Consequentially, while the role of album art has evolved to meet the changes in music technology, it is hard to measure the effect of digital streaming on modern album art. This research seeks to determine whether or not graphic design still plays a role in marketing information about the music, such as its genre, to the consumer. It does so through two studies: 1. A computer visual analysis that measures color dominance of an image, and 2. A mixed-design lab experiment with volunteer participants who attempt to assess the genre of a given album. Findings from the first study show that color scheme models created from album samples cannot be used to predict the genre of an album. Further findings from the second theory show that consumers pay a significant amount of attention to album covers, enough to be able to correctly assess the genre of an album most of the time.
