Alden Gatt Répétiteur, Accompanist & Conductor

Award-winning accompanist, répétiteur and conductor, Alden Gatt is sought-after for his brilliant technique, sensitivity and lyricism, as well as his generous spirit and collegial manner.

The 2018/19 season is Mr. Gatt’s third as assistant conductor and répétiteur with Opera Leipzig. He recently conducted the Gewandhaus Orchester in a production of Hänsel und Gretel, and under the baton Anthony Bramall he performed selections from Mozart piano concerti. In 2015 he was awarded the first place Regina Roney Prize in the highly distinguished Marilyn Horne Song Competition. The award took him on a national concert tour ending in a New York City concert broadcast on WQXR.

Alden Gatt recently appeared as a collaborative pianist with bass Bastian Kohl at Städliches Kulturhaus in Bitterfeld-Wolfen, Germany and has performed in vocal and instrumental recitals at Weill Hall in Carnegie Hall, St. Michael’s Church, Spazio Fazioli at the Klavierhaus and numerous other NYC venues. He studied the art of accompaniment with Martin Katz, John Fisher, John Churchwell, Tamara Sanikidze, and Dr. Jean Barr, and is fluent in Italian, French, German, and Chinese.

As and Conductor of NY Opera Exchange, Mr. Gatt prepared and presented a number of productions: in 2014/15 he assisted David Leibowitz in Carmen, and was the principal conductor for Lucia di Lammermoor and Die Fledermaus. In previous years he has led the in productions of Die Zuaberflöte, Don Giovanni, and Così fan tutte. As a solo pianist, he has performed recitals at Kartzow Castle in Potsdam, Germany and in New York City at the Klavierhaus, as well as in his native Florida and at Kilbourn Hall in Rochester. As a Piano-Vocal Fellow at Music Academy of the West, he performed as secco recititivo harpsichordist and conductor for the festival’s performances of La Cenerentola. With orchestra, he has performed Rachmaninov’s Symphonic Dances with Maestro Grant Llewellyn and Brevard Sinfonia, David Maslanka’s Traveler with Transylvania Symphonic Band, and Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Southwest Florida Symphony. He has studied piano with Seymour Bernstein, Olivier Gardon, and Barry Snyder.

Alden Gatt is the recipient of numerous awards and prizes. Along with 2015 Grand Prize from the Marilyn Horne Song Competition, he was a semifinalist in the International Anton G. Rubinstein Piano Competition (Dresden, GE), a second place finalist in the NY State MTA Piano Competition, and received First Place awards in the Southwest Florida Symphony Young Artists Concerto Competition, the Steinway Society Piano Competition, and was given the Turiel Prize six times by the Naples Music Club. He was given a Merit Award in 2005-06 from the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts. Mr. Gatt earned a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance, with a minor in Chinese, from Eastman School of Music.
