TREVERBYN GREENSPACE -NEEDS A NAME

What an amazing start to shaping the greenspace for the community, Kevin Marsh and a team of volunteers started work on 5 acres of land that has been gifted to the Hall for the benefit of the local community. The land lies between Stannary Road, Treverbyn Road and Wesley Close. Formerly a site for railway sidings and clay works, the area is now a tranquil greenspace that has been left for local wildlife and fauna to thrive in.

It is now hoped that with the help of local people the area can be managed so that the more invasive species such as Rhododendron, Goat Willow and Gorse are kept in check, Kevin is running a Greenspace Workday every Tuesday from 9.30am to 12.30pm for volunteers to lend a hand and help manage and improve this wonderful greenspace that is right on the Hall’s doorstep. Everyone’s welcome, although children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Meet at The Hall reception to start. Name Suggestions Wanted We want to name The Hall’s Greenspace so that is can become more easily identified and recognised when people are talking about it. We therefore want to hear your suggestions. These can be emailed to [email protected] or posted in the suggestion box kept on reception at The Hall. The Trustees of the Hall will then select their preferred suggestion from all thoseput forward. All suggestions will be kept anonymous. Thank you for your ideas.

FRIDAY GROUP & Coffee morning Every Friday from 10.30am-12.30pm Starting on the February 1st this creative social goup will be opening the doors to a social cafe as well as the creative part of the group. 2018 has been a busy year for Tina and her lovely crafty ladies, so much so, that the participants of the group are able to get support through friendships whilst creating beautiful hand crafted items that they have been able to sell. Working together with The Hall, the need for reducing social isolation has resulted a slight change to the group by way of opening The Cafe here at Treverbyn Community Hall, enabling anyone to come along and have a chat over a cuppa. FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE GROUP PLEASE CALL 01726 858657 AND HAVE A CHAT WITH ONE OF THE TEAM. ST PETER’S CHURCH TREVERBYN, Ann Hore, Churchwarden

Wishing one and all a Happy New Year. Here at St Peter’s there is a comforting familiarity about the Church Year, but recently there have been a few changes. A new social committee has livened up both our fund raising and our fun raising, trying out new things to see how they go. St Peter’s is lucky as we are supported in running our events by friends in the community not just our regular congregation. A Harvest Lunch replaced our usual supper as it proved popular last year by an added brunch to our Christmas Coffee morning. Although our numbers are not large Easter Eve and Easter Day celebrations were wonderful and on Easter Day, after a busy week we went out for lunch. Another success to be repeated this coming year! Since our last newletter we have had a second confirmation to celebrate – this one at the Cathedral. Another wonderful occasion. As usual we welcomed Treverbyn school for their end of year services and Harvest Festival and as I write this letter the nursery children are practising for their Christingle service. These are traditions that we are pleased are staying just the same! Our joint event with Roche and St Dennis last year was an Advent carol service. Who on earth would leave a warm hearth to venture out late on a Sunday aftenoon in the face of a force 7 gale to find their way to St Dennis, then within the sight of the floodlit tower to get lost and find themselves at a sign post to Enniscaven! But what a lovely warm welcome we were greeted with when we reached our destination. Advent Sunday with its own special carols, including special tunes taught by our organist Michael Teague, plus all the old favourites, followed by a feast as only the Cornish can lay on!! This year we will be joined by Loveny Choir to celebrate our patronal Festival on Saturday 29th June . The choir’s visits too are becoming a regular event at Treverbyn and are enjoyed by both the church and the local community.

Before I sign off I should say that we still hope to build the toilet and provide disabled access to the church. Big projects always take longer than we would like but we’ll get there. Finally I would like to wish you all a happy, peaceful and healthy 2019.

Please join us at church when you can. You can be assured of a warm welcome whether it’s a special occasion, a Christian festival or our regular weekly worship on a Sunday morning at 8 am or 9.15 am. A FANTASTIC YEAR FOR THE HALL

On Friday 16th November 2018 staff and volunteers were invited, as one of many charities, by Volunteer Cornwall to their 10th Anniversary of Cornwall Celebrates Volunteering Awards. We were delighted to learn that Brenda Collins had won the award for Community Volunteer for which she received an inscribed glass bowl and Treverbyn Community Hall won a plaque for Highly Commended Host Venue. After some very informative speeches we were given a wonderful vegan lunch which was delicious. On behalf of the Trustees we would like to thank Volunteer Cornwall for their hospital- ity, our members and our staff. Most of all we would like to thank our hard working and dedicated volunteers without whom none of this would have been possible. Congratulations and best wishes to you all

Treverbyn Community Hall Trustees Sue Waterfield: Chair Judi Harrison: Secretary Treverbyn Parish Council. David Stevens Parish Clerk.

Another year seems to have flown by and 2019 I am sure will be an exciting but very busy year for the Parish Council and its parishioners. The Council currently continues in frequent consultations with the developers, Ecobos on the proposed Phase 1 of the West Carclaze Garden Village. The scheme will incorporate 350 homes at the China Clay Heritage Park with acres of open space, walks, trails and sports and recreational facilities. The village centre will include shops, community centre, health centre and a new Academy Primary school which hopes to open in September 2020. The relevant surveys and final negotiations with land-owners for the agreed route of the Link Road from – A30 are nearing completion. Hopefully the route will take a large percentage of the traffic from the villages of Bugle, Roche and Stenalees and complementary traffic management measures are to be put in place. These will include HGV lorries restrictions, widening footways and traffic calming to reduce speeds. Work is scheduled to start in Spring 2020 and be completed by Spring 2022.

Our maintenance programme continues on our properties throughout the Parish and our maintenance man, Nathan Toms, has done an excellent job keeping our open space areas in pristine condition. The Japanese Knotweed issues at Hallaze Road, where it is hoped we can transform the scrubland into an amenity open space area will need a lengthy and extensive treatment process. We are however still experiencing vandalism and mindless depositing of litter/fly-tipping on all our properties. This also includes our salt/grit bins which are put there for the benefit and safety of everyone and it is difficult to comprehend why people choose to fill these bins with rubbish. In our recent review of grants to organisations within the Parish, donations were given to Penwithick Community Hall (pensioners Xmas party), Imerys Bowls Club, Bugle Cricket Club, and Cruse Bereavement , which now meets monthly at Treverbyn Community Hall.

It would be appreciated that if anyone wishes to raise any issues on Parish matters they either attend a Parish Council meeting or contact the Parish Clerk, David Stevens on telephone 01726 851001 or e-mail [email protected]. Keep an eye also on our website at www. treverbyn-pc.co.uk. for up-to-date on all Parish news.

Forthcoming meetings: Meetings are always on the 2nd and last Tuesday of the month and are held at Rockhill Business Park starting at 7.00pm.

Amanda & Tracie are planning on visiting Many Tears Animal Rescue Charity in March 2019, where they will spend a weekend volunteering. Their plan is to walk and cuddle as many dogs as they can whilst they are there and not to bring (m)any home! Many Tears Animal Rescue (MTAR) is based in Carmarthenshire, Wales but has dogs in foster homes throughout the UK. They take in and rehome primarily ex-breeding dogs who are no longer required; those on “death row” in the pounds and those whose owners are no longer able to keep them. But, they don’t want to go up there empty handed (Tracie can borrow a van if we can get enough things donated)! Please donate anything that you can. This can include: Wormer, dog collars - both new and second-hand, dog treats, pigs ears, biscuits etc Advocate (spot on), towels, (in reasonable condition) thick bleach, dog shampoo and conditioner, washing up liquid, wet and dry dog/cat food, Zoflora, heavy duty bin bags, washing powder, fleece and thick blankets, Vet bed, good string mops, sardines in oil, shredded paper, dog & cat toys, cotton wool balls or rolls.

Please make sure that everything is clean so that Many Tears can put it to use straight away. Here at The Hall, Tracie & Amanda will take your donations at any time and store them until they go up. Please donate generously to help these poor doggies, whom many of them have never been in a home environment before. Thank you for your support. DOG TRAINING & RINGCRAFT Thursday 7.15pm-9pm This group of like minded dog lovers get together every week and learn the skills of training dogs ready for the ring. A great social group for dogs and owners. Run by Barbara Bardsley of the St Austell and District Canine Society who has many years experience.

For more information call Barbara direct on 01726 68726 FREE FUNDRAISING VENUE available here every month.

As a registered charity we know how important fundraising is, we are lucky to have a dedicated team in our community putting on events to help raise money towards our own sustainability.

However there are a number of local and national charities in need of support by way of fundraising. Such as Cornwall Neighbourhoods for change, STAK, Tanyas Courage, Mencap, and Young People Cornwall.

Have you thought about fundraising for a charity? It could be for Treverbyn Communty Hall, or “Reach out”who rent space within The Hall. We can provide help and support with marketing, have the cafe open, serving refreshments enabling us to benefit for our charity. Whatever your idea please contact Sara or Amanda and arrange a chat about what support we can give.
