Av. Diagonal 645, 08028 Barcelona. E-mail: [email protected] Resumen.—Lista actualizada de los opistobranquios (Mollusca: Gastropoda: Opisthobranchia) de las costas catalanas. Se presenta una lista taxonómica de las especies de opistobranquios (Mollusca: Gastropoda: Opisthobranchia) registradas hasta el presente en aguas litorales o de profundidad de las costas catalanas (NE Península Ibérica). Esta lista se basa en citas publicadas en la literatura, en citas fotográficas procedentes de Internet, en comunicaciones personales de buceadores y en numerosos datos inéditos de recolecciones del autor. De cada especie se indican las referencias bibliográficas, y en el caso de los datos no publicados o procedentes de Internet, se indican las localidades concretas donde se han recolectado u observado. En aguas catalanas se registran hasta el momento un total de 205 especies de opistobranquios: 36 de Cephalaspidea s.s., 9 de Architectibranchia, 7 de Anaspidea, 11 de Thecosomata, 3 de Gymnosomata, 14 de Sacoglossa, 2 de Umbraculacea, 8 de Pleurobranchacea y 115 de Nudibranchia (55 Doridina, 14 Dendronotina, 4 Arminina y 42 Aeolidina). De estas especies, tres de ellas se citan por vez primera para el litoral ibérico (Runcina adriatica, R. brenkoae y Tritonia lineata), mientras que otras siete más no habían sido recolectadas en el litoral catalán (Runcina coronata, R. ferruginea, Elysia translucens, Ercolania coerulea, Berthellina edwarsi, Doris ocelligera y Piseinotecus gabinieri). -

Thus, the Iberian Peninsula and the surrounding islands represent a privileged area as regards the phoronids because from the 10 valid described phoronid species, only Phoronis ijimai has not been recorded (species presently restricted to the Pacific and NW Atlantic), while P. ovalis has been cited on the French Mediterranean coast near the Spanish border. Cette collection est conservée au Muséum des sciences naturelles à Bruxelles. Le petit meuble à tiroirs illustré ici est une modeste partie de cette très vaste collection ; il appartient au Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle et est conservé à la Station marine de Dinard. Il regroupe des bivalves et gastéropodes du golfe Normano-Breton essentiellement prélevés au début du XXe siècle et soigneusement référencés. Eight new species should be added to 304 species of molluscs documented for this area in the recently published check-list of molluscs fauna from Montenegrin marine waters. Studies have shown that the marina Porto Montenegro has been recognized as the host of majority of recorded species (Pinctada imbricata radiata, Thecacera pennigera, Polycera elegans, Euspira catena and Discodoris rosi). Finding of T. pennigera is the first for the Adriatic sea and third for the Mediterranean Sea. Among identified species Pinna rudis is on the List of endangered or threatened species (Annex II Barselona Convention) while Pinctada imbricata radiata is considered as lessepsian alien species and introduced in the Boka Kotorska Bay. President Peter has very kindly invited me to use his editorial slot to write a piece encouraging more members to play an active part in the Society. A few stalwarts already give very generously of their time and energy, and we are enormously grateful to them; but it would be good to spread the load and get more done. Some of you, I know, don’t have enough time - at least at the moment - and others can’t for other reasons; but if you do have time and energy, please don’t be put off by any reluctance to get involved, or any feeling that you don’t know enough. There are many ways in which you can take part – coming to meetings, and especially field meetings; sending in records; helping with the records databases and the website; writing for our publications; joining Council; and taking on one of the officers’ jobs. None of us know enough when we start; but there’s a lot of experience and knowledge in the Society, and fellow members are enormously helpful in sharing what they know. Apart from learning a lot, you will also make new friends, and have a lot of fun. The Society plays an important part in contributing to our knowledge of molluscs and to mollusc conservation, especially through the database on the National Biodiversity Network Gateway (www.nbn.org.uk); and is important also in building positive links between professional and amateur conchologists. -

WEST COAST SPECIES OF THE PHYLUM PHORONIDA The following seven species of phoronid adults are known from southern and central California: Phoronis architecta Phoronopsis californica % Phoronis muelleri - 3G-5CV Phoronopsis harmeri Phoronis pallida ^Phoronis psammophila Phoronis vancouverensis With the exception of Phoronis muelleri the larvae of the above are also well known here. An additional nearly cosmopolitan species Phoronis ovalis occurs in Washington and two additional widely distributed species Phoronis australis and Phoronis hippocrepia are reported from our east coast. Two further "larval species" occur in southern California, a third such form is known from Hawaii, and there may be at least two additional unidentified larvae from east coast waters. There are no described adults to match with these larval forms, so additional adult forms await discovery and description. Two additional species names may be familiar to California workers: Phoronopsis viridis is now considered a synonym of Phoronopsis harmeri and Phoronis pacifica has never been identified since the inadequate type description The Genus Phoronis Members of this genus lack the epidermal fold known as the collar which is located at the base of the lophophore in members of the only other genus Phoronopsis. Although inconsequential and sometimes inconspicuous, the collar is the only morphological feature separating the genera. Adults of the genus Phoronis are usually smaller than those of Phoronopsis Phoronis ovalis: Not yet described from southern California, but probably here. Positive identification is easy since species is diminutive (usually less than 1 cm in length), with only about 24 tentacles which are arranged in a slightly indented circle. Burrows within calcareous substrates (limestone, mollusc shells, barnacles) in which it forms aggregations by asexual budding.
