In the case of inclement weather, the reception will be held in Merner Field House . *Please stand if you are able. #NCGrad2019 - 2 - HONORS & AWARDS HONORARY DEGREE RECIPIENT Jim Williams Reporter/Anchor/Producer, CBS 2 Jim Williams is a general assignment reporter for CBS 2 Chicago . He also anchors the station’s Sunday evening newscasts, and is the producer/host of the documentary series “Stories 2 Tell ”. He joined CBS 2 in December 2002 . Williams began his broadcast journalism career more than 40 years ago at WGN-TV, where he was a news writer, producer and reporter . He also wrote newscasts for WGN Radio . From 1992 to 1997, Williams was press secretary for Chicago Mayor Richard M . Daley . He supervised media relations throughout city government . For four years, he was a correspondent for ABC News, reporting across the country for “World News Tonight with Peter Jennings” and “Good Morning America ”. For “Nightline,” Williams covered China’s crackdown on the spiritual group Falun Gong . Williams has won several journalism awards, including an Emmy for investigative reporting . In May 2018, he was inducted into the National Television Academy of Arts & Sciences’ Silver Circle for his lifetime of work in Chicago television . Williams was born and raised on Chicago’s South Side . He is a graduate of Kenwood High School and Columbia College . He serves on the board of the Mercy Home for Boys and Girls in Chicago . Williams and his wife Joyce have four adult children . OUTSTANDING SENIOR Each year at Honors Convocation, North Central College names an Outstanding Senior. Tia Dukes ’19 Plainfield, Illinois Tia Dukes ’19, an organizational communications major, has been widely involved across campus as a mentor, musician and student leader . She counseled students as a coordinator for the Premier Scholars program and worked as a student ambassador with the Office of Admission and a summer camp assistant . Dukes studied abroad at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, completing courses in international business communication and intercultural communication . An accomplished violinist with 13 years of experience, Dukes has played in numerous ensembles, including the recently revitalized North Central College student gospel choir, Voices of Praise . In recognition for her involvement at the College, Dukes received a Student Life Leadership Award, which is given to students whose dedication to campus life has made a positive impact on the campus and the lives of other students . Dukes will continue as a master’s degree student at North Central and will be the graduate assistant for the Office of Multicultural Affairs . #NCGrad2019 - 3 - FACULTY EMERITI James Donovan, Ph .D . Horner conducted research as a visiting member of the multidisciplinary Visiting Professor in the Shimer Great Books School molecular materials group at Argonne National Laboratory .
