Museums in Paris, the most touristic city in Hthe world, are moving towards banning the popular devices because of the hazard they pose for crowds and artworks. Inside the famed Palace of Versailles just outside the French capital, guards are telling visitors to put away the telescoping rods that allow users to take a smartphone picture of them- selves at a distance. A formal rule change will soon prohibit the poles outright. The management of the Louvre-the world’s most visited museum-is watching with increasing wariness the burgeoning use of the selfie sticks being waved around within centimeters of priceless paintings. There’s no ban there yet, but “their use must respect the rules,” which include not pointing objects at the paintings or sculptures, a spokeswoman said. The Pompidou Centre, which houses modern art exhibi- tions, is “heading towards a ban but the decision has not yet been made,” its management said. Already several other big museums in the world have this year started banning the extending rods, including the Smithsonian in Washington, the MOMA in New York, and the National Gallery of Australia in Canberra. The measures were taken as use of the cheap, telescoping rods, some of which can extend to 1.5 meters in length, becomes a ubiquitous and worldwide trend. It is not unusual to see tour groups waving a forest of the aluminum poles holding smartphones aloft in some high-density tourist sites. ‘Bothers people’ In Paris, a ban on them inside museums would have a significant impact. A special look at our team members, divisions and specialties along with our various programs, outreach initiatives and year-end statistical information. We faced many challenges in 2018. The Noblesville School shooting sparked an outcry throughout central Indiana to closely examine our preparedness and school safety. Through a cooperative partnership between the Westfield Washington Schools and the Police Department, many changes were made to increase the safety of our most precious treasure, our children. We added two school resource officers and an explosive detection K9. We also created Police Substations in each of our schools and encouraged officers to conduct school visits to further increase visibility. The Indianapolis Colts moving their training camp to Grand Park, creating another challenge for our department in 2018. Providing staffing for the multiple week event tested our team in ways we had never experienced before. By utilizing each member of our department, and the dedicated volunteers of our Citizens’ Academy Alumni Association, we assembled a team that provided a safe environment for the Colts and all who attended.

  • “Why So Serious?” Comics, Film and Politics, Or the Comic Book Film As the Answer to the Question of Identity and Narrative in a Post-9/11 World
ABSTRACT “WHY SO SERIOUS?” COMICS, FILM AND POLITICS, OR THE COMIC BOOK FILM AS THE ANSWER TO THE QUESTION OF IDENTITY AND NARRATIVE IN A POST-9/11 WORLD by Kyle Andrew Moody This thesis analyzes a trend in a subgenre of motion pictures that are designed to not only entertain, but also provide a message for the modern world after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The analysis provides a critical look at three different films as artifacts of post-9/11 culture, showing how the integration of certain elements made them allegorical works regarding the status of the United States in the aftermath of the attacks. Jean Baudrillard‟s postmodern theory of simulation and simulacra was utilized to provide a context for the films that tap into themes reflecting post-9/11 reality. The results were analyzed by critically examining the source material, with a cultural criticism emerging regarding the progression of this subgenre of motion pictures as meaningful work. “WHY SO SERIOUS?” COMICS, FILM AND POLITICS, OR THE COMIC BOOK FILM AS THE ANSWER TO THE QUESTION OF IDENTITY AND NARRATIVE IN A POST-9/11 WORLD A Thesis Submitted to the Faculty of Miami University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts Department of Communications Mass Communications Area by Kyle Andrew Moody Miami University Oxford, Ohio 2009 Advisor ___________________ Dr. Bruce Drushel Reader ___________________ Dr. Ronald Scott Reader ___________________ Dr. David Sholle TABLE OF CONTENTS ACKNOWLEDGMENTS .......................................................................................................................... • SUPERGIRL “End Title”
SUPERGIRL “End Title” Music by Jerry Goldsmith -Supergirl (1984) ** [music ****] http://www.amazon.com/Supergirl-Limited-Helen- Slater/dp/6305842027/ref=sr_1_2?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1293764295&sr=1-2 [NOTE: This document was cut & pasted here from my very long DVD Collection analyses] Here is my YouTube video on the End Title that I created December 22, 2016: https://youtu.be/4hw9taS_5wE While the movie itself is a bit of super-stretched nonsensical entertainment, the music itself by Jerry Goldsmith deserved super-sized praise! I’ll later delineate some of the End Title cue. I am very happy Goldsmith had a chance to enter the Superman universe in terms of providing a score to compare with Williams’ excellent Superman score. Imagine if there was an alternate score to that movie (Goldsmith composing it) instead of the inferior Supergirl. It would be one of those probable realities that I wish I could enter and experience. Of course we already have a five-star super score by Goldsmith from the esteemed Star Trek universe (Star Trek:TMP) and it is difficult to 1 imagine Goldsmith coming up with an even better score for, say, Superman, but we will never know! The movie itself is pretty laughable, campy, kidsy and silly—but it has a certain degree of oh-what-the-heck fun! You really have to suspend any sense of logic in this film. For instance, when Kara (Supergirl, played by cute Helen Slater) rides the inter- dimensional vehicle Zalthar (Peter O’Toole) created to enter the outer reality of Earth, she was wearing her rather floral, flowing outfit.
