Joining that tandem will be transfer from UNO, senior Ryan Mantle. Tommy Steier, sophomore southpaw Paul Bergstrom and senior Mitch Boyer. Infield Creighton’s entire infield will feature new faces from last season, “We have 10-12 pitchers on this team that can face top hitters and but there is also experience at every position. deliver,” added Servais. “That is one of the deepest amount of arms we’ve had during my time as the head coach.” Back from an injury that sidelined him throughout 2019, Mantle is expected to see the bulk of the time at the hot corner. Mantle was an All-BIG EAST First Team selection following the 2018 season, hitting .281.

Across the diamond senior Jason Allbery has started over 100 games at first base for the Bluejays. While Allbery gave way to Holton down the stretch last season, the Omaha native is poised to reclaim his position. Pushing Allbery will be junior reserve Evan Spry, who has often delivered for Creighton as a pinch-hitter.

At second base redshirt sophomore Andrew Meggs is expected to share time with JC transfer Josh Dudden. Meggs is in his third season at Creighton, while Dudden led his squad to the JC World Series championship in 2019.

The shortstop role will feature the biggest surprise as senior Parker Upton, a shortstop in high school, is going to be given the first crack. An outfielder during his first three seasons, Upton hit .324 last season with 10 home runs and was selected as preseason All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Upton will be pushed by newcomers Cole Albers and Cam Frederick.

Outfield Two of the three outfield spots are locked down as junior Will Hanafan will patrol center field and sophomore Jared Wegner will slide into right field. The third slot, left field, could see a bit more variety. Frederick and redshirt freshman Jack Grace will battle for time.
