INDOOR MEETING Karlsruhe becomes part of the International Athletics “Hall of Karlsruhe, 22/11/2019 Fame” Award for outstanding contributions to the worldwide development of athletics / the only German indoor meeting

The INDOOR MEETING Karlsruhe, which will celebrate its 36th anniversary with the 2020 edition, is steeped in history. Now the INDOOR MEETING Karlsruhe has been given a great honour: Together with the NYRR , the INDOOR MEETING will have the distinction of being the first indoor meeting to be awarded the “IAAF Heritage Plaque“. Prior to this, the only German meeting to receive this award was the ISTAF outdoor event in Berlin. With this award, the INDOOR MEETING has been honoured for its outstanding contributions to the worldwide development of athletics. Since 2016, and thus a founding member, the INDOOR MEETING belongs to the “World Athletics Indoor Tour” indoor athletics series and draws top stars from the athletics scene to Karlsruhe year after year. “The INDOOR MEETING is one of the most international sporting events in Baden-Württemberg and is therefore a flagship not only for the city but for ’s entire Southwest. The fact that we are the first indoor meeting in the world to be included in the Hall of Fame is impressive evidence of the unique international appeal of this event,” says Mayor Dr Frank Mentrup, Chairman of the supervisory board of Karlsruhe Marketing und Event GmbH, about the great honour for the Karlsruhe meeting.

At the “World Athletics Heritage Mile Night” in Monaco, Sports Director Alain Blondel received personal congratulations from Sebastian Coe, President of the IAAF. “We are incredibly proud to be part of this Hall of Fame,” said Sports Director Alain Blondel. “This award is a great honour for the entire team, all partners and sponsors, as well as fans of the INDOOR MEETING who have made the meeting an extraordinary event for years,” added Martin Wacker, Meeting Director and Managing Director of Karlsruhe Marketing und Event GmbH.
