Her portfolio includes Senna in the anime movie Bleach: Memories of Nobody. She has provided the voice of Barbie for Mattel, Mairu Orihara in Durarara and Durararax2, the voice of Lupit in the highly acclaimed Marvel Comics anime series Blade, and the voice of Kiyal in several episodes of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Sam Campos Born and raised in Hawai‘i, Sam was 14 years old when he conceptualized Pineapple Man. A decade later featured him in what would become a critically acclaimed comic books se- ries, and Sam went on to teach graphic and sequential art for the University of Hawai‘i. He’s also worked in television and film, doing fight choreography, costume and weapons design and storyboards. After picking up and going to work in Hollywood for a time, Sam returned home to develop Dragonfly, a supernatural martial arts series that takes place in Hawai‘i. The show combines the things he loved while growing up: action movies, Hawaiian legends and

2 . In the process, he pioneered the use of 3D rapid prototyping technology in costume fabrication. Founder of the Hawai‘i Hero Alliance, a group of costumed actors that spread Aloha to children and adults. Also founder of the Hawai‘i Comic Book Alliance, a group of Artists and pub- lishers. Though still busy with Pineapple Man and Dragonfly, Sam is working on other film projects, directing and editing music videos. Tatiana DeKhtyar Tatiana DeKhtyar is an actress, model and cosplayer, who hails from St. Petersburg, Rus- sia. She began modeling at the age of 14, then moved to America to pursue opportunities in acting. Formally trained in modeling, acting, dance and martial arts, she recently has come to the attention of the comic-con scene with her regular appearances on the You- Tube series “Super Power Beat Down” produced by Bat in the Sun, www..com/batinthesun which has won a Geeky Award for Best Web Series and was nominated for Best Action or Sci-Fi at the . Bat in the Sun currently holds over 1.4 million YouTube subscriptions. Tatiana has also been featured numerous times in Cosplay Culture Magazine. Aaron Douglas Aaron Douglas is best known for his portrayal of Chief Galen Tyrol on ’s . Before joining the Battlestar cast, Aaron had roles on many films and TV shows including X-Men 2, iRobot, Stargate SG-1, Andromeda, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Outer Limits and many, many more. Since Battlestar Galactica, we have found Aaron in his own show, The Bridge, and as the evil Bill Marsh on . Aaron guest starred in an episode of Eu- reka, an episode of CBS’ Flashpoint, and in a couple of Syfy creature features, Storm and Killer Mountain, where Aaron is teamed, for the first time since Battlestar, with his good friend and former cast mate Paul Campbell. Most recently, Aaron played Sheriff Tom Sworn in Hemlock Grove and Evan Henderson in the Killing. Aaron does a lot of work for charities, and the majority of his efforts go to the Canadian Cancer Foundation and Canuck Place Children’s Hospice. Kate Elliott Kate Elliott has been writing stories since she was nine years old, which has led her to believe that writing, like breathing, keeps her alive. As a child in rural Oregon, she made up stories because she longed to escape to a world of lurid adventure fiction. She now writes fantasy, , science fiction, and YA, including recent works Black Wolves, Court of Fives, and Cold Magic. It should come as no surprise that she met her future husband in a sword fight. When he gave up police work to study archaeology, they and their three children fell into an entirely new set of adventures amid dusty Mexican ruins and mouthwatering European pastry shops. Eventu- ally her spouse’s work brought them to Hawai‘i, where she took up outrigger canoe paddling. With the three children out of the house, they now spoil the schnauzer. Jonathan Frakes Jonathan Frakes is an American actor, author and director and is best known for his por- trayal of Commander William T. Riker in the television series : The Next Genera- tion and subsequent films. Having moved towards directing in recent years, Frakes di- rected and also starred in Star Trek: First Contact as well as Star Trek: Insurrection. Besides directing many of TNG television episodes, he also directed a number of shows for Leverage, Burn Notice, Castle, NCIS: Los Angeles and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Frakes also hosted the television series Be-

33 yond Belief: Fact or Fiction, challenging viewers to discern his stories of fact-based phenomena and fabricated tales. In June 2011, Frakes narrated the History Channel documentary Lee and Grant. He is also the author of a book called The Abductors: Conspiracy. Amy Hoff Amy Hoff spent years travelling across the United States, living out of cars and cheap motels. She was a weightlifter and streetfighter, collecting monster legends across the country. Eventually she left the USA and continued travelling around the world. She is now a folklorist and historian specialising in monsters. She has never owned more than what can fit into a backpack and a suitcase. She is also a model, actress, writer, and director. She founded a theatre company in Glasgow, Scotland, where she directed various cult classics for five years. She adapted Man in the Iron Mask and Good Omens for the stage. Cult Classic Theatre then became the foundation for her production company, Cult Classic Pictures. Her web series, Caledonia, about a police station in Glasgow run by monsters, has been nominated for awards at festivals all over the world. The third installment, a fantasy horror feature film entitled Burns Night, is currently in post-production. Manu Intiraymi Manu Intiraymi is best known as Icheb on the television series Star Trek: Voyager. He was a student at the Howard Fine Studio, gaining experience in both television and theatre. In 2011, he could be seen in three new feature films: Fortress from Bayou Pictures and Radical 3D, playing the lead role of Charlie O’Hare, Driving By Braille, a new film from WB pictures. He can also be seen in the short films Expired and Ex-girlfriends. He is also a writer/director. He is currently working on a new project called The Circuit. Nike Johnston Nike Johnston is a Glasgow-based makeup artist working throughout Scotland in fashion, bridal, TV and theatre. She trained at South Lanarkshire College, with Stardust Makeup Art- istry (theatre and production) and Artisan Makeup at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (airbrushing for HD/RED), and has worked in makeup for theatre companies and a variety of independent films throughout Scotland. A long-standing sci-fi and fantasy nerd, Nike joined Cult Classic productions in 2013 as a makeup artist for the urban fantasy webseries Caledonia: Mortal Souls. Currently, she serves as lead makeup artist for Caledonia, which is entering its third season with production of the feature-length film ‘Burns Night’, and she has appeared as a panellist at MCM Comic Con, Glasgow. When she’s not working, Nike can generally be found drinking tea and watch- ing , or trying to persuade her dogs to dress up in matching Star Wars costumes (with limited success). Maria Jones Maria Jones is a Swedish actress and graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland where she earned her masters degree in acting and her international debut playing Helena in All’s Well That Ends Well at Shakespeare’s Globe in London, in a collaborative production with the RCS. Her other theatre credits include Captain Tench in Our Country’s Good (The Tron Theatre), Linda in Blood Brothers (Shock Theatre) and Ruth in The Homecoming (Govanhill Theatre). As a fan of cinema as a storytelling tool she has often created her own work, having written for both the web and screen. In 2016 she landed the leading role of DI Leah Bishop in Cult Classic Studios’ feature film Burns Night. Her other screen credits include the short fantasy films The Last

4 hawaiicon 2016 Equinox and The Golden Goblet, the film noir Reflections of a Private Eye and the feature films Good to Be Back and FLUX.” Walter Koenig Walter Koenig is an actor, writer, teacher and director, best known for his role as Ensign , navigator on the USS Enterprise, in the original Star Trek television series (starting in Season 2) and in all of the movies featuring the original cast (including ). Koenig also played in . His recurring role of Bester on Babylon 5 was voted as “Best Guest Villain” in a poll of over one hundred thousand fans, and in later polls was voted both “The Man We Most Love to Hate” and “The Best Villain in a Series: Most Evil and Complicated Character”. Walter’s film work in the first seven Star Trek feature films earned him two Saturn Award Best Supporting Actor nominations. Chase Masterson Chase Masterson is an actress, singer and voice actress best known to Star Trek fans worldwide for her portrayal of Dabo girl Leeta on Deep Space Nine. Masterson’s other television credits include appearances in series such as ER, and the current hit CW series The Flash. Masterson is an accomplished Voice actress and singer, having re- leased several independent jazz albums as well as voicing characters for the Robotech and Fist of the North Star Anime properties. She also recently became the star and lead role of the Big Finish audio drama series Vienna, a Doctor Who spin-off. Consistently ranked as one of the sci-fi’s most beautiful actresses, Masterson also co-founded the Pop Culture Hero Coalition in 2013, a non-profit organiza- tion speaking out against bullying, racism, misogyny, cyber and LGBT-Bullying, and other forms of hate. She can be found on Twitter @ChaseMasterson. Vic Mignogna Vic’s anime career started about fifteen years ago as Vega in Streetfighter II. Since then Vic has been in more than three hundred series and video games, known for such roles as Edward Elric in Fullmetal Alchemist, Tamaki Suou in Ouran High School Host Club, Zero in Vampire Knight, Death Scythe in Soul Eater, Keldeo in Pokemon, Dark in DN Angel, Kurz in Full Metal Panic, Broly in Dragonball Z, Ikkaku in Bleach, Obito/Nagato in Naruto, Hikaru in Macross and many more. Vic is currently playing characters in Free!, Black Butler, Durarara, Sailor Moon, World Of Warcraft, Attack On Titan, and many others. In addition to anime, he is executive producer of the award winning web series , where he is not only directing, but fulfilling a childhood dream of playing the iconic role of Captain Kirk. Bill Morrison Award-winning cartoonist and illustrator Bill Morrison began his career in The Motor City as a technical illustrator. When The Simpsons creator founded Bongo Com- ics, Bill was hired on as art director and realized his cartoonist dreams when he drew the very first Simpsons comic. He quickly took on the role of Creative Director, editing Bongo’s entire output, and writing and drawing stories and covers as time permitted. Bill also worked with Groening on early character designs for the TV show and served as the series art direc- tor. In addition to his work on The Simpsons and Futurama, Bill has written and drawn his own comic book series, the four-time Eisner Award-nominated Roswell, Little Green Man and co-created two guest stars 55 other comic book series, Heroes Anonymous and Lady Robotika (the latter with Jane Wiedlin of the legendary all-girl rock band, The Go-Go’s). Kayre Morrison Kayre Morrison is best known as Opera Leela in Futurama’s original final episode, “The Devil’s Hands Are Idle Playthings”. She also played Mother in the short lived Holly and Hill- ary and has done numerous commercial voiceover projects. As a writer, she has penned stories for Matt Groening’s Bongo Comics and is co-creator of the upcoming “Dead Ven- geance” series from Dark Horse Comics. Since 1997, she has appeared worldwide as the vocalist of the Dean Mora Orchestra. She has done big parts in movies you’ve never seen and teeny ones in films you have, but her main love is live theatre, where she’s appeared in well over 100 produc- tions. In her spare time she is actively involved in dog rescue efforts in Los Angeles. Keao NeSmith Dr. Keao NeSmith is a native of Kaua‘i with a PhD in Applied Linguistics with a focus on language teaching theory and practice. He has translated numerous works into Hawai- ian, including classics such as Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s Le Petit Prince. Most recently, Keao has translated and released J.R.R. Tolk- ien’s The Hobbit. This version has regenerated tremendous interest not only in The Hobbit in Hawai‘i, but also in reinvigorating, supporting, and expanding the domains of the Hawaiian language, one of the world’s most endangered languages. www.traditionalhawaiian.com. Nichelle Nichols began her professional singing and dancing career in her home town, , at the tender age of 14. As a teenager she was discovered by the great Duke El- lington, who hired her to choreograph and perform a ballet for one of his musical suites, and finished the tour as his lead singer. When Nichelle was cast by to create Chief Communications Officer Lt. Uhura, fourth in command of the Starship Enterprise, in his legendary TV series Star Trek, it was, in the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, “The first non-ste- reotypical role portrayed by a black woman in television history.” Nichelle was awarded her much deserved star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on January 9, 1992, just weeks before she became the first African-American to place her handprints and signature in the cement walk at the famous Mann’s (Grauman’s) Chinese Theatre. At the behest of NASA, Nichelle now travels to NASA Ames Research Center in California, Johnson Space Center in Houston TX, Cape Canaveral in Florida, NASA Headquarters in Washington DC, speaking at youth-oriented programs in support of STEM education and the space program. @RealNichelle Siya Oum Siya has worked on numerous Aspen Comics titles including her own creator-owned hit series, Lola XOXO. Oum is also illustrating covers for Marvel Comics titles such as Spider- Woman, Star Wars, Spider-Gwen, and more. Currently, she is writing and illustrating the second volume of Lola XOXO. Larissa Paige Larissa Paige is a professional Cosplayer from Salt Lake City, Utah. She has been cosplay- ing for over three years and has won several awards for costume designs. Larissa has also

6 hawaiicon 2016 produced, judged and executed the cosplay contest for the Salt Lake City Comic Con. She creates all of her own cosplays, coming up with gender-bending ideas as well as original characters that put a creative spin on classic characters. She is very excited to be a part of HawaiiCon. Tahmoh Penikett Tahmoh Penikett: Battlestar Galactica’s Lieutenant Karl “Helo” Agathon for which he re- ceived the prestigious Peabody Award. Tahmoh’s next major public production was ’s sci-fi series Dollhouse. Tahmoh has also been seen in a variety of other series including a recurring Guest Star on , , Continuum, Castle, Arrow, and Supernatural. Tahmoh Penikett played the lead role of Matt Ellman on Syfy’s four-hour TV adapta- tion of Riverworld. Tahmoh was born in the city of in the , and his back- ground, which includes strong ties to the Upper Tanana tribe and their traditions, led him to his love of storytelling. Tahmoh has a very strong connection and devotion to his family with whom he spends time with whenever possible. In his spare time enjoys a variety of athletic pursuits including competitive kick boxing. Marta Randall Marta Randall was the first female president of Science Fiction Writers of America and pub- lished several S.F. and fantasy novels and stories including Nebula nominee Islands. She was also the first female Toastmaster for a Westercon and for the World SF Convention in Chicago (twice). She has taught SF and Fantasy writing since 1982. Alasdair Reavey Alasdair Reavey plays the second lead Dorian Grey in the Caledonia series. He is one of the founding members of Cult Classic Pictures and has been with them since they were per- forming on stage. Alasdair started as an extra and was slowly awarded larger parts before he finally landed the part of Dorian. On the stage he was provided with the opportunities to play Aramis in The Man in the Iron Mask and the horseman of the apocalypse, Famine, in Good Omens. Originally a mathematics student, Alasdair found that the creative arts suit him much better than his original studies. He is now a student of game design and will be working on a Caledonia- based video game. He has also played a large role in the management and organisation of the com- pany’s projects. Eugene “Rod” Roddenberry, Jr. Rod is the son of legendary science fiction producer Gene Roddenberry, whose Star Trek series changed the face of television. In 2001, Rod became chief executive officer of Rod- denberry Entertainment and the company continues to develop and produce an evolv- ing slate of smart, provocative science fiction projects. Rod established The Roddenberry Foundation in 2010 in order to provide support to organizations and individuals addressing critical global issues in the areas of science, technology, the environment, education and humanitarian advances. A certified scuba diver for more than two decades, Rod has undertaken more than 1,000 dives in exotic locations around the world. His passion moved him to establish the Roddenberry Dive Team that recently evolved into Roddenberry Adventures. Pleasure Thresholds is Pat’s first book; she is currently working on her second! Jane Wiedlin Jane Wiedlin is a founding member of the legendary, all-female American rock band The Go-Go’s and the author of the new science fiction musical Lady Robotika: the Space Opera, based on her comic book, written with Bill Morrison. The Go-Go’s achieved enormous suc- cess in the 1980’s, selling out venues all over the world. Her ground breaking band was the first ever all-girl group to write their own songs, play their own instruments, and reach platinum. Jane has released six solo albums. Rolling Stone magazine called Kissproof World a “solo tour de force by an entrepreneur, an actress and rock goddess.” She’s appeared in Star Trek Iv, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, and Clue, among many others. 8 hawaiicon 2016 the scientists Andre Bormanis is a television producer, screenwriter, and author of the book “Star Trek: Science Logs”. Bormanis is most notable for his involvement in the long-running Star Trek franchise, and served as science consultant, writer, producer and technical advisor on ST:TNG, ST: DSN, ST: Voyager, and ST: Enterprise, and two of the ST:TNG films. He was also a writer and producer of the CBS’ series Threshold and Eleventh Hour; a writer for Tron: Uprising; and was the director of scientific research for Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey. He’s currently working as a writer and producer for the second season of Cosmos. Dr. Derek Buzasi’s research interests include almost anything having to do with stars. He began by studying various aspects of stellar activity, such as spots, flares, and winds, and has done both ob- servations and theoretical work, including radiative transfer modeling and magnetohydrodynamic models of stellar flux tubes. More recently, he has moved from studying stellar atmospheres and en- vironments to studying stellar interiors and convection through the use of asteroseismology. Derek is also a reserve Navy Engineering Duty Officer, with the rank of commander, assigned to Pearl Harbor. Dr. Carrie Cole teaches Integrative Theater Studies at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where she focuses on performance and popular culture, specifically staging science fiction, and fan studies. Her written works can be found in “Hollywood Chemistry: When Science Met Entertainment”, “Transforma- tive Works and Cultures”, “Popular Entertainment: Performance and Spectacle, Culture and Competi- tion.” Her other recent artistic projects include a new stage adaption of H. G. Wells’ “War of the Worlds” and a collaboration with the creators of the graphic novels “KILL SHAKESPEARE”. Dr. Candee Ellsworth is the Executive Director of Friends of NELHA, the Natural Energy Laboratory Hawaii Authority. Prior to coming to the Big Island, Candee spent nearly 20 years working as a Con- servation Biologist focusing on island biodiversity/island ecosystems and conservation science. Her mission at NELHA is to provide education and outreach related to the lab’s innovative enterprises, which include developing renewable energy resources, desalination, and growing shrimp, sea horses, abalone, lobster, oysters, ocean fish, and micro algae. Dr. Inge Heyer teaches astronomy and science education at Loyola Marymount University, and serves as the Deputy Press Officer for the American Astronomical Society. Her astronomical work includes time spent on the Hubble Space Telescope; she was part of the team that created the Hubble Deep Field. She is the official Star Trek Blogger at CBS.com, and can be seen in the originalTrekkies documentary! Dr. Ramsey Lundock is an astronomer who currently works at the National Astronomical Observa- tory of Japan, after serving as an astronomer at Subaru telescope. Moreover, she can describe the curious wonders of the Universe in English, French, Spanish, and even Russian, and manage it all in the dark of a planetarium! Koa Rice, a long-standing expert on indigenous science, is passionate about using Hawaiian cultural knowledge to engage students in learning contemporary science. A resident on the east side of the Big Island, she frequently interacts with schools and communities across Hawai‘i island and serves as a cultural liaison between the academic scientific community and cultural thought leaders. Dr. Sharon Schleigh is a Professor of Science Education at East Carolina University, where she works with future and current teachers to build and use telescopes to explore the night sky with their stu- dents. A Big Island native and proud graduate of Hilo High School, Sharon has spent nearly 30 years sharing her expertise in science education through her work with the National Science Teachers As- sociation, her research publications, and hands-on, minds-on educational experiences. Dr. Tim Slater is the University of Wyoming Excellence in Higher Education Endowed Chair of Science Education. Known as “the professor’s professor” because he has tirelessly taught many professional scientists how to teach, Professor Slater is an avid motorcycle rider, author on more than 100 scientific journal articles, the winner of numerous awards, and frequently a keynote speaker on how scientists can better communicate to make their science more popular. He and his wife are the happy servants of 18 spoiled cows who reside on the slopes of Maunakea. Dr. Stephanie Slater is a cognitive scientist specializing in how people of all ages and backgrounds learn to navigate the intersection of science and culture. She is the Director of the CAPER Center for Astronomy & Physics Education Research where her work often focuses on studying astronomers, especially looking at the pathways that are most effective at bringing people who don’t often go into science, into science. She often speaks at Cons on the ways that science, culture and art interact in the SciFi world, and she is a passionate, amateur seamstress of cosplay attire. Sawyer Slater grew up attending the young adult and kids activities at many Cons, and is now pass- ing on those experiences to the keiki who attend HawaiiCon.
