SOUTHERN FOURS AND EIGHTS NEWSLETTER OF THE SOUTHERN MORGAN OWNERS GROUP MOGSOUTH VOL. 9/15 Continued Next Page 1 ots of heady discussions of late! “Now that the big 40th Anniversary has passed - what do we do next?” “Revolution or Evolution?” There are quite a few disparate L thoughts! And, some are louder than others! “Maintain the status quo!” “Build a Tardis!” “The club demographics are changing, change with them!” “Change is bad!” “What’s worked in the past, will work in the future!” “Change is good!” “Sit still and die!” So given all this discord it seems appropriate to toss these various ideas onto the virtual ‘coffee table’ and see what ideas resonate with the membership and what ideas truly belong in the virtual ‘bin’. Of course we welcome any other ideas that haven’t as yet been voiced. This Club is, if nothing else, a democracy. Here’s your chance to speak up. Sit quietly and be subject to druthers of others . Send any comments to the MOGSouth email inbox at [email protected]. Also, questions or comments that you might want to respond to are in ‘red text’ and numbered for your reference. Please respond to any or all. And, thanks. This discussion also allows us to interweave a few of the results of the recent MOGSouth Survey. Some of the answers we got really do help us in understanding what the membership ‘actually’ looks like, and not just what we ‘think’. Also, there is no need to cover ground that has already been ‘plowed,’ so to speak. -

J. Owoeye A. A. Department of Transport Management Technology, Federal University of Technology, PMB 65, Minna, Ngeria Doi:10.5901/jesr.2014.v4n5p165 Abstract Since the first Ford’s Model Ts vehicle in 1908 which has metamorphosis into the present day hybrid vehicles, yearly auto-crash leads to the death of 1.2 million people, injury and disability of another 50 million is challenging. This study assesses road users’ perception and responses to red signal-lights of new/second hand vehicles imported into Nigeria and theoretical review of human vision. Questionnaires were administered to urban road users at public garages, oral interviews with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC, Nigeria) and traffic cops and personal observation at intersections to assess drivers’ perception of red turning signal- lights. The result reveals that 76% of the road users have low perception of red turning-signal and that poor utilization of turning- signal are responsible for 45% intra-urban road crashes. In conclusion, it is recommended that the federal government through the relevant agencies should redefine her stand on the US and World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations, WP.29 in the furtherance of road safety crusade in the country. Keywords: Turning Signal-Light, Visual Perceptions, Vehicle Blinkers, Traffic Safety, and WP 29. 1. Mogsouth Newsletter 2 14
SOUTHERN FOURS AND EIGHTS NEWSLETTER OF THE SOUTHERN MORGAN OWNERS GROUP MOGSOUTH VOL. 2/14 he big news is . the weather is weird. There is snow in Atlanta and the Carolinas and it is unbearable. The politico’s are under a lot of pressure as the South basically shuts down with snow. It is wet and T windy here in Florida and the dampness has even clogged up my sand blast cabinet. Best to stay inside where it’s warm and read those new Morgan books I got as holiday presents. Or, better yet to collect up some good stuff for another MOGSouth newsletter, so that you too could have a good Morgan read. And, I know I’m not alone in wanting to stay inside. I got a note from Peter Ballard claiming that his garage was too ‘cold’, so he took to writing down a bit of his experience on his 4/4 restoration project. Good stuff and included here. Sometimes there is an obvious theme to these newsletters, and sometimes, not. This is one of those ‘not’ times. That being the case, this newsletter is a eclectic collection of this and that. Certainly all Morgan, but nothing more binding than that. There’s a little something for everybody. Some technical, some historical and even some whimsical. And I think we have pretty much covered the model range, old to new, with three wheels or four. Enjoy ! Disaster! the ACO (Le Mans Organisers) This Time in a Works-Prepared Plus 4 Supersports
isaster! The Rover V8, that ambassador of torque, the legend of hi-po delivery, the master of the Ddeep rumble, is dead. And, along with it, has died Morgan’s venerable Plus 8, a stalwart of the company’s line-up since 1968. Is it doom for the world’s most traditional car maker? Charles Morgan and co, of course, say not – and here’s the reason for their confidence, a very early pre-production Morgan Roadster, powered by a Ford V6. This is the first time any magazine has driven the car, and it’s not in the usual controlled environment, high-budget launch. They’ve simply left the car with us for a few days, with a casual promise that someone will be along to collect it when we’re done. 07 04 71 F UELLING THE PASSION Morgan V6 Roadster This is great news because no Morgan, new or old, can be here was a sports car with effortless torque, startling evaluated in a rushed day of testing and photographing. On acceleration and an exhaust note to die for. And all without first acquaintance, a Morgan is cramped, noisy, bouncy and (at adding up-front weight to any significant degree. Ever since, £35,000 for this one) over-priced, with little other than quaint the Plus 8 has been the most hairy-chested of Morgans, only lines to overcome those not insignificant disadvantages. But recently matched by the altogether different Aero 8 model. soon you realise that, at the very least, your typical Morgan is Inevitably, though, time and legislation has caught up with actually quite nippy. -
