Go Volaterrana more than two thousand years ago, when the Etruscans of Volterra discovered it as a port and centuries before the Romans lived it leaving their traces near today's Solvay pier.

Garibaldi landed there buying wine at the inn before reaching Livorno in barroccio, while his monument in front dictated the words Giosuè Carducci in the late nineteenth century.

With such a past, from Vada you can only reach many interesting places. Here are a few: If you go back to Garibaldi and come from Livorno (1), take a tour of the ditches aboard a goiter and, while getting off by car, stop on the Romito to admire the sea eating a 5 and 5 with eggplants. Follow it up to Castiglioncello (2) along the Old Aurelia and take note of the coves to be re-lined by sea by renting a rubber dinghy, but only when it is a north wind.
