---------------- 50 3 4 ABOUT THE ASSOCIATION Additional Reference Documents • Articles of Incorporation • Current Bylaws (adopted May 2019) Description The Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning (ACSP) is a consortium of university-based programs offering credentials in urban and regional planning. Acting together, the ACSP member school faculty are able to express their shared commitments to understanding the dynamics of urban and regional development, enhancing planning practices, and improving the education of both novice and experienced planners. Corporate Purpose According to the Articles of Incorporation, the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning, a corporation, shall be a nonprofit organization organized and operated exclusively for educational purposes...under Section 501c3 of the Internal Revenue Code (ACSP IRS 501c3 Determination Letter), for such purposes including: 1. Encourage development of and provision for the dissemination of information about new and improved methods of education in city, community, urban or regional planning; 2. Provide a forum for the identification and discussion of issues in planning education; 3. Enhance opportunities for the development of new, and the improvement of existing, planning curricula; 4. Enhance opportunities for the conduct and dissemination of research; 5. Assist the Corporation’s membership in enhancing the equal accessibility of their several curricula for all qualified persons and in assuring racial and ethnic diversity of faculty and students; 6. Support the highest quality of planning education through services to the Corporation’s membership in faculty recruitment and development; 7. Coordinate with other organizations concerned with planning education; 8. Perform, or join with other bodies to perform, such evaluation and recognition functions of planning curricula as the membership may direct; and 9. Facilitate the broad involvement of the students and faculties of the Corporation’s membership in the fulfillment of the above purposes. 5 Mission ACSP promotes planning education, research, service, and outreach in the United States and throughout the world. It is committed to recognizing the diverse needs and interests in planning. It seeks to strengthen the role of planning education in colleges and universities through publications, conferences, and community engagement as well as through participation in the accreditation process. ACSP believes that planning education should extend beyond the classroom and into the world of practice by working closely with practicing professionals and communities. The Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning promotes education, research, service and outreach in the United States and throughout the world by seeking to: • recognize diverse needs and interests in planning; • improve and enhance the accreditation process, and; • strengthen the role of planning education in colleges and universities through publications, conferences, and community engagement; • extend planning beyond the classroom into the world of practice. Values Statement Planners link knowledge with collective action, work in the public interest, and advocate for transformational change.     A BRIEF HISTORY OF WOMEN IN THE DEPARTMENT OF CITY AND REGIONAL PLANNING By Daisy Son Urban Studies, UC Berkeley May 2021 Sponsored by the Undergraduate Research Apprentice Program (URAP) Faculty Mentor: Elizabeth Deakin, Professor Emerita of City & Regional Planning BACKGROUND Women were an integral force in shaping today’s inclusive and welcoming environment within the UC Berkeley campus, especially in the Department of City and Regional Planning (DCRP). This project was launched as part of the Undergraduate Research Apprentice Program (URAP) in commemoration of the 150th year of women being admitted to Berkeley. Women were granted “regular” admission in 1872 and since then, countless women faculty, students, and staff have made exceptional contributions to the campus community and beyond. I had the pleasure to work under the supervision of Professor Emerita Elizabeth Deakin on putting together a history of women in the Department of City and Regional Planning (DCRP), which has never been documented before. This article highlights some of the important findings on how DCRP was shaped by incredible women and recognizes their work and accomplishments at DCRP. RESEARCH PROCESS We began by reviewing literature on women in academia and on DCRP (Farrell & Walker, 2015; Teitz, 2016). It was challenging to build a broad history of the department because there was limited documentation available to us, both because of COVID restrictions on access to stored materials and because of staff retirements from the department. An important resource was the department’s publication commemorating its 50th anniversary (1997-98), in which we found lists of faculty since the department’s inception through the publication date as well as a brief history of its early years (DCRP, 1998.) Staff members also provided assistance in preparing lists of faculty and students, and several emeriti faculty, men and women, who provided important insights about the department’s early years.

It in the planning debate, zoning can either is generally laden with verbiage that requires skilled deciphering and cross-referencing one's boon or bane. This issue on codes multiple levels of code, overlay zones, supplemental regulatory plans and design takes no position on the topic, but rather guidelines. In addition to development standards and guidance, these policies serve as highlights a few projects & perspectives on safeguards from legal challenges. This should not surprise anyone when you consider this regulatory tool used in nearly every that the first zoning code in 1916 was written by an attorney in Manhattan, New York, planning endeavor.
