Though the news came as no surprise – polls have been showing Clinton behind Obama for months – those who had backed her for so long now have to wonder what they’ll do with their vote. The biggest problem we foresee for the Democrat- ic Party is that Republicans and Independents who may have voted Democrat if Clinton had been on the ballot (for president, not VP – another scenario altogether) may decide that Obama isn’t the man for them and instead go with the more experienced Republican presidential nominee, John McCain. Clinton has said all along that she would be the stronger contender when it comes to the general election, and we think she was right. At this point, the best Democrats can hope for is to see Clinton’s name on the ticket right next to Obama’s, running alongside him as his potential vice president. She’s already indicated that this is a possibility, particularly by throwing her support behind Obama and urging her own backers not to hold grudges against him. The move would help her political career, and it would help Obama’s run for the White House. And there’s no doubt that, if the duo is elected, Clinton will be a significant as- set to Obama when it comes to fulfilling some of their shared promises – even if they would have gone about it in different ways. Both have prom- ised to fix some of the nation’s major issues, like the health care system, the economy, the war in Iraq – between the two of them, with Clinton’ solid plans and experience and Obama’s passion and new ideas, it seems plausible that we could end up with a president and VP who can actually get things done. In other words, it would be ludicrous for Obama to not invite Clinton to join him on his ticket. He needs her to garner enough votes to beat McCain, COURTESY PHOTO and he needs her in the While House. WINNISQUAM ECHO CULTURE June 12, 2008 A7 ■ FROM SNAPSHOTS TO PHOTOGRAPHS By Kevin Sperl / [email protected] ■ Digital cameras provide more information, but are you listening?

As an amateur photogra- pher, what changed when you put down your film cam- era and picked up a digital version? Did you become a better photographer? Have you taking the time to ap- preciate the nuances of digi- tal photography as com- pared to film photography? In previous columns I stated that a digital sensor is noth- ing more than another type of “film” with light sensitiv- ity, contrast range, and color biases of its own. Picking up a digital camera does not make you a better photogra- pher but it certainly is a tool that can help your advance- ment in the craft. The first change in your photography is an obvious one. No more buying film. No more bring- ing your film to the drug- store and paying to have it developed and receiving a set of 4x6's. There are a number of issues related to taking photographs with a digital camera that need to be ex- plored, many of which, I will guess, few of you use. For the next number of columns I will discuss some of the new responsibilities photogra- PHOTO BY KEVIN SPERL phers must be willing to ac- This shot, taken at the Laconia Hot Rod Nationals, is another good example of dealing with high contrast scenes. Junior Chris Mazur settled under it, hit Cote with the cutoff throw and Cote fired a strike to third to nail the runner tag- ging up. That seemed to re- energize the Bears. In the bottom of the sixth they used small ball to take the lead. “We knew with the top of our line-up coming up, it was now or never,” Caruso said. “Their kid (lefty David Par- ma) was pitching a great game, keeping us off-balance with his off-speed stuff. We felt if we could put the ball in play and use our speed, we’d have a chance.” Keivet started the rally with a bunt single up the third base line. Cote, the Bears lead- ing hitter who had struck out his previous two times at the plate, came through in the clutch with single to left on an 0-2 pitch to knot the game at 2-2.
